And may the odds be ever in your favor...

Loved it! They did such a good job with it. How long do we have to wait before Catching Fire???

I loved it, too! (and as others have said, Catching Fire's release date is Nov 22, 2013).

Spoilery talk below!

I thought the actual games were a bit rushed/compressed, but I'm not sure how much of that was because, in the book, it's all in Katniss' head & from her POV. You just can't do that in a movie. I have to say, the 2 1/2 hours flew!

Overall, I thought the movie was great! A really good adaptation. I thought Jennifer Lawrence was fabulous as Katniss. She really fit the part, and I thought her acting was very believable. In the moments before she entered the tube to get lifted up into the arena, you could just *sense* Katniss' fear as she looked at Cinna. It seemed to me that she was literally vibrating with fear. I loved her reactions to Rue's death, also.

I also really liked Woody Harrelson as Haymich. He had that right mixture of drunkeness and charm.

I really think my favorite part was "the Girl on Fire"! I really could not imagine how they were going to do the fire on their costumes & the dress, and I found it totally believable, and wonderfully captivating. Well done!

I haven't re-read the book lately, so I personally didn't notice any gaping holes. I think the departures from the book were really pretty minimal.

Sayhello

I haven't seen the movie yet but I have to say of everyone I know that saw this movie the first time I heard ANYONE say anything good about it was in this thread.

My husband is talking to a few other friends that went to see it and tend to agree with us on movie choices, if they didn't like it either we aren't going to spend the money. The book was awesome but there are very very few movies I have ever liked that were made from books. (I didn't even like the harry potter movies that so many loved)

Things I have heard is that they leave out all the character development and important stuff, that if you hadn't read the book you would not have understood anything because they left out all the details, etc.

I was surprised to see that you haven't seen anything positive about the movie-its percentage of positive critical reviews on rottentomatoes.com is 85%, which is pretty darn high. I thought it was really well done-and I'm hyper critical about movies made of books I love. Missing some character development, but it was already 2 1/2 hours long.
