And I Did It My Way! First Time Going SOLO! ***NEW! 7/17 p.7***

Now, remember when I called and asked to “upgrade” to a preferred room? And they said nothing was available so I just requested something in 50’s or 70’s “close to the food court”.

Because I remembered...

Up Next: Will my room requests get filled? Will I starve for 4 days because I’m too afraid to eat by myself? Stay tuned…

AH! Dont leave me hanging!! I have to know where you got put!

I am glad you are back. I cant wait to read about your solo adventure!

Hi Shannon! Look forward to reading more of your TR :thumbsup2

I am leaving the kids and DH at home and going solo in August so I am really excited to read your report! I hope you had a fantastic time! Looking forward to the details! I have been trying to read all the solo reports I can find!

Hurry back!

Allyson :surfweb:

I was searching for solo trip reports before my trip too! I'm sure I will be finished by August!

I get your logic totally. Disney is my happy escape from the real world, and I'm pretty bad about finishing trip reports too. I only have two of the ten days done from my last trip. :rolleyes1

Disney is my complete escape...the only thing that would really make it an escape from reality would be if cell phones didn't work. On my cruise of course I had no cell service so I didn't have to keep "checking" to see if anybody called.

I'm IN! popcorn:: I am excited to hear about a solo trip! I wish i lived close enough to make the short drive for a weekend!!! :goodvibes

I'm telling you, I loved this solo trip so much that I may be making more weekend getaways!

Oooh Shannon I am excited you have started! I loved Pop when we stayed there. I loved the Food Court, Gift Shop and they have a fun arcade too (yes I do enjoy a good game or two now and then!). I hope you got a room you were happy with! And I do hope you ate! Can't wait for more!

Allyson :)

I liked Pop too...have stayed there before though. I'm gonna leave you hanging with my room and food situation though ;)

Woo-hoo! You're back! :cool1:

Thanks for joining in!

The pics are tiny on my computer. Like, 2-3 inches on a side.

Weird :confused3 photobucket is not being my friend

Hi here is a Dole Whip for getting you TR up and running so quick.

dl195.jpg

Yum! My favorite! I had 2 on my trip!

Yeah Shannon's back. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself and would go back by yourself again. I might take your advice and ask DH to go somewhere by myself when we go, just for some me time. Can't wait for the next installment. Oh nice Dole Whip but I just have a coffee here :surfweb:

Coming from me, someone who typically hates to be alone in very public situations, I could not believe how much I enjoyed this trip solo.

Yay! An update. :yay: I hope that you get a room that you like. I'm interested in hearing what you have to say about Pop. We may be staying there next year to enjoy a longer stay at Disney World. popcorn:: <---- me while I'm patiently waiting.

I'll try to throw in my Pop thoughts throughout the report! I'll say this though. I've stayed there prior to this trip and I would stay there again!

AH! Dont leave me hanging!! I have to know where you got put!

I am glad you are back. I cant wait to read about your solo adventure!

I know I know I'm taking forever!

Hi Shannon! Look forward to reading more of your TR :thumbsup2

Thanks! I was lurking on your trip report before I left!

Ok everyone, I have been horrible this week about updating. Just busy doing things around the house and this coming weekend is my birthday weekend (actually monday/Memorial Day) is the actual day but I'll be celebrating all weekend so I may or may not have time to update. The most annoying part is the pictures. Photobucket seems to take forever for me and then won't let me edit the size. Anyway, I'm trying my best to get the next update, even a small one, up soon. Thanks for your patience. I haven't given up on it yet!

Well, I'm glad it is taking you a while because I haven't been able to be online in over a week. :scared1: Soooo, I'm not that far behind. Can't wait to hear where you ended up? You obviously didn't starve to death since you are back here updating your report. :rotfl2: Can't wait to hear the rest. Oh and Happy Birthday on Monday Shannon!!!! Oh and in honor of your birthday, I'll be running my first 10K! That's 6.2 miles. I am sooo excited and nervous. I'll be thinking about you while I'm out there pounding the pavement. :goodvibes

A 10K? Amazing - how did you do?

Thanks for the birthday wishes!

Shannon Happy Belated Birthday

Thanks!

Well everyone I'm typing this reply from my brother's house. They are going out of town so I'm babysitting their kids tonight, picking them up from school tomorrow and heading back home to grandma's. Plus I get to "play mom" and go to my niece's school production of the "Three Piggy Opera". She is so excited for me to go there as the "family representative". Honestly, I'm excited too. Anyway, probably no updates this weekend :duck: Man I stink at this. I will update for sure on Monday or Tuesday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well it has been forever but I've finally got another update for you all!

Last I left you, I was standing at the check in counter hoping that I wasn't put in a room at the All Stars (you know, really far away?). So the CM says: "It's 60's section, bldg 4".

Score!!! :woohoo:

Ok I originally thought that I had received a free upgrade to a preferred room because I thought all 60's bldgs were preferred. I have since read differently so I didn't actually receive a free upgrade. Although I might as well have because my room was in a great location. On the 4th floor, literally around the corner from the ice machine and elevators. Once on the first floor, I was steps away from the Hippy Dippy Pool! It was great! So I smugly walked past all the losers not getting possibly free upgrades to the 60's bldgs and headed back to my car so I could unpack.

I drove my car to the 50's/60's parking area and boy oy boy was it far to walk with a very heavy suitcase and duffel bag! But eventually I made it to my room. I took no pics of the room but I'm sure you all know what a Pop room looks like, right?

How about some pics of the building and my view, though?

The room was clean and just right for me. No towel animals although I did spot a teeny tiny one in my window when I went out that stayed there my whole trip. I didn't unpack quite yet but I did put my sodas and waters in the "fridge". See, I did not want to pay for a fridge but I needed something to keep my drinks cool, so I just loaded up the ice bucket and a large insulated lunch bag and filled it with ice and some drinks. Worked great! And free!

So after putting the drinks on ice, I freshened up and headed to the food court for my first meal as a solo traveler. I wanted something yummy and filling but not heavy like a burger. Truthfully, it was overwhelming standing there alone in the food court trying to decide what I wanted. So I ordered a chicken caesar salad and a coke. I paid for it and remembered to use my DDE so I received 20% off :thumbsup2 Remember that.

I wrote in my notebook while I was eating, making notes about my trip so far. I wrote "first meal - not too bad". I felt like everyone was staring at me and then I finally just looked around, and no one was even remotely looking my way. Everyone was involved in the own meals. The salad was good, but not great. However after I continued to eat more and more of it, I was getting very sick of it. Almost too much of one thing. A hunk of bread or something may have broken it up a bit. Oh and I forgot to get napkins (which is very unlike me). I feel naked eating a meal without a napkin, but I didn't want to get up and leave my stuff to get one so I just made sure I was very neat while eating.

Continued in next post...

After filling my belly, I headed out to the bus stop with the intention of heading to the MK!

A bus pulled up after just a few minutes and in no time I was walking through the MK turnstiles. I had no idea where I wanted to head first so I opted for Tomorrowland. I grabbed a FP for buzz because the wait was 20 minutes and decided a ride on the TTA was in order.

DSC00958.jpg

Is it weird that the people-mover is a must do ride for me? After riding, the Carousel of Progress was just letting people in so I grabbed a seat, which wasn't that difficult. The CM working there asked 3 times if everyone was there to see the CoP...and everyone was like, "uh, yeah". She explained that people get on the ride thinking it is the line to meet the characters (Buzz and Stitch) that hang out there. :confused3

The CoP was great as always. Another classic for me. By this time, my FP was good for use, except it turns out I didn't need it! It was a walk on. I didn't write down my score but I'm pretty positive it wasn't that great. Still fun though.

After conquering Zurg, I wondered what to do next....

Solo trips are da bomb! I'm trying to get them in now while I can before I have a hubby and kids to make me feel guilty for doing it!

If you can swing a solo trip, I say do it! I truly never thought I would like it as much as I did.

Laura

I think the Disney classic rides (PoC, CoP, PeopleMover, HM,etc) are more favorites for me than the big ticket roller coasters!

Everyone - thanks for reading and thanks to those of you just joining my TR! I'm trying to work on the next update as we speak!

I have to ride the people mover and see the COP at least 2 or 3 times. I just love them both and they are classics! And I was shocked that on our trip in Sept, DD loved them too. I thought they would be too boring for her...guess not :thumbsup2

Keep it coming! I am soooo wanting to go it alone and make a trip there this year. BUT, those pesky things called children would have to be taken care of somehow when I am gone and I havent quite figured that part out yet :rotfl2:
