...and a happy New Year! 12/30/2010

We got our confirmation in the mail today which gives all the different types of information and all their policies on the back. Love getting Disney mail. :earsboy:

Ok... we did something crazy... but since we got jerked off the 10 night NYE cruise and lost our great stateroom we settled on an inside cabin, just kind of waiting for something to come up. Kind of thinking about the 10 night MR cruise in April 2011.

We yesterday happen to pop on the DCL site to see if they had our stateroom and they have Cat 12 rooms at a great rate (at more than $2000 less than a cat 11 and even with our 10% rebooking discount, we still saved close to $2000). So we moved our reservation to the 10 night MR cruise got our OBC, our TA OBC and 10% discount. Then created a new reservation with almost as much OBC as we had before on this cruise with the savings.

So... now for the less than price we had booked our original 10 night NYE cruise, we have 2 cruises that are total of 17 nights.

Congrats!! :goodvibes

Sounds like the cards were stacked in your favor for all that!

We will have to keep in touch so that you can tell me all about that cruise also. :woohoo:

still on this cruise, just doing another one in April!

BTW... Has anyone done a graphic or a name for this cruise? Now that it all seems real.

Hello All,
I'm thinking really hard about joining you all on this cruise, but I'm new to cruising and having a hard time taking the plunge (not literally, I hope).
Sounds like many of you here are repeat-cruisers, so can you tell me more about the weather in December on this itinerary, the special events for NYE, and whether a DCL cruise is my best bet for a 13 and 15 year old, or would they prefer something on another line a bit more? THANKS ;-)

Hi Niklynn! and Welcome.

What others have told me is December is great!!. It might be a bit cool in Florida, but then the Eastern Caribbean will be lovely and very tropical. CC might be cooler than in October, but I heard that Mid January and Feb are the coldest at CC.

We are not going for the weather, but for the celebrations. Since we got bumped from the cancelled 10 night magic cruise. DCL has promised the the ship will still be decorated for Christmas and will be a wonderful NYE celebration.

I can't speak for teens on the ship and how well they will get into the Disney stuff. But there is a Teen club where they can hang out and meet others.
Maybe someone else can speak to that.

I knew from the amount of days you listed that it read like you were still on this cruise. Our next cruise after this one will possibly be on the Dream when I take the kids, but who knows my DH and I may have to take one by ourselves somewhere.. . . . . have to plan on that one!! :confused3

The name of the thread that the OP did is as far as anything has gone as far as I know. I had not thought any further. My last cruise was very boring in it's name. . . it was just the Memorial Day cruise!!! ;)

All the teens I saw on our last cruise and read reports on seemed to have a blast. From everything I read, there is plenty for all age groups. My DD who is just past being a teen, is so looking forward to our cruise (it will be her first).
As far as the weather, I was in Florida the first part of last December and it was not bad. My DH was stationed in FL back in the mid 70's and he said there was a few Christmas's that he was on the beach in shorts. I am sure it varies, but as lucky1 (Laura) said, we are going for the special celebrations and all that. Although it will be nice if the temps are better than what we had in Texas this last year. Crazy year for us. :)

Kathy..
Crazy is more than the word for weather this past year. We live in Arizona and have not yet hit 100, which is very unusual for us. Plus we have had a cool spring.

One of the reasons I didn't book the dream is it's size and plus that it is only doing 3, 4 and 5 night cruises. Thus we picked the Mexican Rivera. The ports don't interest us, but the ship does.

Laura

The reason we will do the Dream is that my older son and his wife who we will be taking along with my DD and another DS (who still live with us) is that Donald Duck is Jonathan's favorite. And since Admiral Donald will be. . . well I am sure you follow. Plus we will probably only do a 4 night with them. It is just long enough to see how they will like it, and still work in with them not having to take a whole lot of vacation time off work or find a place for my granddaughter that lives with them to stay for a shorter time.

Kathy,

Donald is a favorite of ours as well! As for cruise names...I think if we get some enthusiastic DISers on this cruise, we might be stuck with something simple.

I'll throw out a couple of ideas.
  • Sailing into a WONDERful new year
  • Rockin' the Wonder for New Years ( that was from the 12/29 cruise)
  • Welcoming 2011 with the Wonder

I really like the first one. . . Sailing into a WONDERful New Year :woohoo:

The 2nd one come in on a close second. That is my thoughts. If (and that is a big if) I can come up with anything I will put it out there, but coming up with names is not one of my fortes. :rolleyes1

Hope you have a good Memorial Day Holiday. :beach:

Well looks like just you and me at this point being active on this site.

Have a good Memorial Day! We have family in today and we are baking in the warm weather.

Hi All!

I just transferred my dummy res to this date. I seen the great deal on the Cat 12 and couldn't resist.

So it's me (Marcy 35) my hubby (Chris 37) our son (Bradly 16) and my sister (Lisa 25) we booked two cat 12 rooms.

My father (Bob 57), stepmom (Liz 47) and two brothers (Nick 15 and Lincoln 13) have also booked at 12. They will get a great deal considering they will get a Cat 11 and it is a 3000 more then the cat 12 that they paid for.

The only problem is that on they have cancelled the last 2 cruises that they were scheduled to do. So I hope they are able to do this one.

We also have friends that are DVC members that are considering booking this one too. If it all works out it should be a great cruise.

BTW - I also like the first suggestion for the cruise name! Sailing into a WONDERful new year!!

Welcome Marcy Mouse!!!

We were waiting on a SPH room and when the Cat 12 opened up we could not pass up the rate. Now I noticed that 3 SPH rooms opened up today. But at the rate of Cat 12, I will not switch now, plus we moved our OB rebook discount to another cruise, since we could not use it on Cat 12 and even with the OB rebook discount we would still be paying $2000 more.

Crossing my fingers and toes that they don't cancel this one, but hopefully note as this is our Birthday cruise. Plus I am going to book airfare soon, but getting across the country is going to be expensive at that time.

I will work on a graphic this weekend with the name... and see how you all might like it. I have one with the ship and fireworks that I got from someone for our cancelled cruise.

Hello All-
I took the plunge and put the deposit down for this cruise last night. The kids are excited, but it still seems so faaaarrr away yet!

Looking forward to getting to know you all better. ;-)

Welcome and glad you also voted for the #1 suggestion. I will start the list soon as far as participants and if you would like to do FE. Sounds like ya'll will have a really good group. :woohoo:

Girl, bite your tongue. :scared1: I certainly hope they don't cancel or do any changes on this cruise. I just worry about weather at that time of year and getting to Florida, but can't afford to worry about things like that which are totally out of our control!

Welcome to you also. It does seem like forever til we sail, but I felt like that about our May cruise last year and it is already one year later. :rolleyes1 It is amazing how time flies.

YEAH!!! So glad you finally got things straighted out and deposit down.

We are starting to form a good group here now!

Did you see..? I pulled this from the CC site.

Take part in a very special opportunity to meet, greet and learn from famed Disney illustrator Don "Ducky" Williams during select cruises in 2010. Renowned for his illustrations of Disney's most beloved characters, Don Williams has made a name for himself at The Walt Disney Company for over 30 years as an illustrator of books, lithographs, magazine ads and commercials.

During select sailings in 2010, Don "Ducky" Williams will be offering a series of exclusive seminars and workshops—including a one-of-a-kind cell-painting workshop—that will shed light on the creative process of character illustration and animation at The Walt Disney Company. You can even sit down with Don as he sketches your favorite Disney character!

Don "Ducky" Williams Cruises include:

4-Night Bahamian Cruise (March 7, 2010 sailing only)
14-Night Eastbound Transatlantic Cruise (April 10, 2010 sailing only)
5-Night Bahamian Cruise (May 30, 2010 sailing only)
14-Night Westbound Transatlantic Cruise (September 18, 2010 sailing only)
11-Night Southern Caribbean Holiday Cruise (December 18, 2010 sailing only)
7-Night Eastern Caribbean Cruise (December 30, 2010 sailing only)

I know what you mean. I wasn't planning on going over the New Year but when I saw the deal I couldn't resist.

I was looking for sometime in January and for some reason I checked December and there it was.

I changed my dummy ressie (two rooms) for this cruise so that I still could get the $200.00 ship credit for each room as well as another 100 for each room from Dreams unlimited. I know I don't get the 10% but the $600 dollars in credits is gonna be fun to spend!!

Are you doing any parks before the cruise?

Marcy
