Hmmmm, the chef there came out to meet me when my family was seated, we went through the entire food buffet, he even cooked up something special right then and there for my daughter..........they did this at every single resturaunt in Disney.........now, I can't say about a cake though because she does not eat cake..........but I do know that they take the food allergies very seriously, and if they say that they can not get one that is sure to be nut free, or free from contaminants, then they mean it!
That's great for you, but Disney's not always perfect, just because every single time you got something special, doesn't mean everyone does. I'm not really sure what you're getting at. We ordered a cake, and the chef called and said he couldn't do a cake because of allergies but he would make up some special concoction with dessert treats, and he didn't. I didn't remind them when we got to the restaurant, so no big deal. We weren't upset about that at all. I never asked for something special---the chef called us at home before our trip, and offered to do this--- he said he would be working that night, and I guess he forgot or was busy. I never said they didn't take allergies seriously??? If your child couldn't eat a dinner, I'm sure they would make something special, but desserts are different, sometimes restaurants will bring something safe, and sometimes they won't.. I'm not sure what you're trying to say--- you quoted me and made this statement? We've travelled to Disney 7 times with my PA son, so I understand what they do at the buffets. I just thought that if they put a cupcake in front of my son that he couldn't eat, they maybe should have mentioned it (knowing his allergies)-. I was a little annoyed though, and I feel rightfully so. The waiter knew about my son's allergy-- it was on his reservation, we reminded the podium, and we reminded him when we sat down. He went and got the chef to walk us through the buffet. And, no I didn't remind the chef that he would make something special, because I didn't feel right asking for that. My son's used to just eating ice cream, and it's not a problem. The waiter brought out a cupcake (we didn't ask for one) sang happy birthday and then walked away as quickly as possible without saying he could eat it. Since I had gotten a call from the chef saying he would have something safe, I wasn't sure if he could eat it or not. My 5yo took a lick of the icing before we could warn him not to, and we told him not to eat anymore until we talked to the waiter. Waiter came back after 10 min. and we asked him if cupcake was safe. He said, oh no, it's not. So, Disney's not always perfect when it comes to allergies. I'm glad you've had these great experiences, and for the most part we really have too, but that doesn't mean every experience will be like that. Luckily my son was ok. WE did not ask them to bring out a cupcake by the way--- they just did it. Crystal Palace put the candle in a waffle, and we thought that was awesome.
Then on the last trip to Chef Mickey (we still went back because the kids love it), it wasn't even his birthday, and the chef (different chef) brought out bowls and bowls of safe treats for him straight from the kitchen. We couldn't believe it, it was so nice. So, just because you had an experience at a restaurant, doesn't mean everyone has the same experience. I'm sorry--- but the "hmmm" in your statement, made me feel like you were questioning my experience on my son's birthday.
