My DD is severely anaphylactic to all peanuts and tree nuts. I was going to send her and my niece to the Alice in Wonderland tea party for my niece's 3rd birthday but the children all eat peanut butter and jam sandwiches. I can't take a chance, especially as the kids are unsupervised. Sad. Anyone know of anything else we might do for the girls? The princess party is a bit pricey but I will use it as a last resort. Would they bring out a cake and gift or anything if supplied at Cinderella's breakfast or at the 1900 Park Faire dinner?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You can order cakes from the restaurants but with the nut allergy issue I don't think that would work. Most of the baked goods are off limits due to cross contam issues. They do have special allergy safe foods like brownies, cookies, caramel corn, jelly beans, etc. I'm sure if you called ahead and spoke to the chef they could make up a special birthday dessert plate with allergy safe foods and then decorate it with safe things like choc syrup and whipped cream. Why not do something non-food related like the Bibbidi Boppity Boutique makeover and then have a low key birthday dinner at 1900 or CRT.

We could not find the caramel corn or jelly beans last week anywhere. POFQ did have chocolate chip cookies and the brownies made by divies! my son was so happy!:yay:

I would do one of the other options you suggested. CRT or 1900 Park Fare. You can special order a cake and have it delivered-I haven't done this but I have seen some posts about it.

Just make sure when you book the ADR they know about the Nut Allergy. I think this is a good option and you get to see her enjoy the moment-unlike the tea.

I don't think you're going to be able to order a cake. We couldn't get one when celebrating my son's 6th birthday (also anaphylactic to nuts)--- that stinks about the pb&J--- my son can't do the pirate cruise for the same reason.

The chef at Chef Mickey's called (after I ordered a cake) said he couldn't get a cake, but would make something special for him since he would be the chef that night. They never made anything special--- they sent him out a cupcake that he couldn't eat (the server forgot to tell me that--- luckily I double checked right before my son licked the icing). I personally think something non-food related. Bibbity Bobbity boutique is a great idea!!!!! Get her a birthday pin to wear in the parks! If you go to 1900 park fair, they'll still sing happy birthday, just watch the dessert they bring out. WE celebrated bday in the morning at Crystal Palace, and they brought out a birthday candle on a waffle (rather than a cupcake) and sang to him--- that was cool!

Have you looked over at the disAbilities forum? They have the name of the person at WDW in charge of food allergies like this, who can help you figure out what will be safe.

BBB would be your best bet for a special and safe birthday treat. The only dessert my nut-allergic kids were able to get at any of the TS was plain vanilla ice cream. Pastries are made off-site, so Disney can't guarantee their safety. It would be really nice if Disney got the Divvies cupcakes and kept them on hand at TS's for special occassions.

Vanilla icecream has been the only dessert beside the Rich's/Divvies brownies/cookies that my son has been able to eat at Disney. We usually do a table service meal for him and skip a cake.

We are doing BBB for my dd's 6th birthday as her treat since she also has a nut allergy. Liberty Tree Tavern last year brought out one of those Tinkerbell light up things for the drink for my dd since it was her birthday and she couldn't have any of the desserts except the vanilla ice cream. Lucky for us, my dd isn't big into desserts (probably because of her egg/nut allergy) and actually loves ice cream! She thinks she's special because they bring out a "special" dessert for her.

I do want to share this, at 2 dinners a few weeks ago, the chef had allergy free desserts that they brought out for DS that he could have with the ice cream. One at Chef Mickeys--- they gave him a gluten/nut free brownie (plus brought out a bunch of candies that are in those tubes but they said could have cross contamination--- they brought him bowls of them fresh from the kitchen. At Boma, they sent out Divvies cookies that he could have along with ice cream. We've taken 6 trips with our boys, and this was the first time that the chefs had desserts on hand that were safe that he could have along with the ice cream. It was great, because for the first time DH, DS#2 and I didn't feel guilty getting desserts at the buffets (we usually skip). It seems like Disney's getting even better at dealing with allergies (and they were great to begin with--- it's the only place we travel to besides my parents house at the beach because of how safe they are).

Maybe we should start a food allergy forum.

My DS-11 also has peanut allergies. Luckily, his dessert is chocolate milk!
While he likes cake, cupcakes, etc. I would not want to take a chance at a reaction.

We had a similar experience with our DD, who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. Last Aug, the chef at WCC sent out Divvies choc chip cookies with the vanilla ice cream that DD ordered for dessert. This past April, the chef at Boma brought out the same cookies with DD's ice cream. Also, the chef at the Tusker House breakfast brought some safe cookies to our table since DD couldn't have most of the baked items. DD was thrilled! What kid doesn't want cookies for breakfast?

What a great idea. I just called Coral Reef (actually she called me back from a VM I left) and I ordered a custom cake. She confirmed that they can't call it "peanut free" due to the saying on the items they use that say things like "produced in a facility that may process peanuts or tree nuts" and things like that. She's going to still do the cake for the rest of us (DS4 loves "fire on his cake!" (candles!) so we'll still do the cake part. She's going to have a "special" dessert sent out for him since he's the birthday boy and all! ;) Then we don't have to feel guilty about eating cake and he'll get a special treat.

I also have the email address for Disney regarding food allergies. I got an email address from the DISabilities board and got a response back with forms attached listing out specificillay what foods are a risk for which allergies. I also got a form to fill out and email back to them so they have his allergies on file.

I have to agree with PPs about Disney being VERY safe. DS4 has allergies to peanuts, shell fish, garlic and just about everything else you can imagine (cats, dogs, horses, grass, trees, cockroaches, dust, and the list goes on...). We have not had a problem with any of his allergies at Disney and are so thankful for that. Because of that reason alone, we will continue to vacation at Disney.

Hmmmm, the chef there came out to meet me when my family was seated, we went through the entire food buffet, he even cooked up something special right then and there for my daughter..........they did this at every single resturaunt in Disney.........now, I can't say about a cake though because she does not eat cake..........but I do know that they take the food allergies very seriously, and if they say that they can not get one that is sure to be nut free, or free from contaminants, then they mean it!

The 2 places I have found the car corn and jelly beans were the Mara at AKL and Main Street Bakery. The Mara also carried the rice krispy treats from Divvies but not at Main ST Bakery.

Off topic but they also carry the Divvies Car corn and Kettle Corn at the Great Wolf Lodge but they were $6 per bag. That was the only darn thing I could eat at that place though.....

That's great for you, but Disney's not always perfect, just because every single time you got something special, doesn't mean everyone does. I'm not really sure what you're getting at. We ordered a cake, and the chef called and said he couldn't do a cake because of allergies but he would make up some special concoction with dessert treats, and he didn't. I didn't remind them when we got to the restaurant, so no big deal. We weren't upset about that at all. I never asked for something special---the chef called us at home before our trip, and offered to do this--- he said he would be working that night, and I guess he forgot or was busy. I never said they didn't take allergies seriously??? If your child couldn't eat a dinner, I'm sure they would make something special, but desserts are different, sometimes restaurants will bring something safe, and sometimes they won't.. I'm not sure what you're trying to say--- you quoted me and made this statement? We've travelled to Disney 7 times with my PA son, so I understand what they do at the buffets. I just thought that if they put a cupcake in front of my son that he couldn't eat, they maybe should have mentioned it (knowing his allergies)-. I was a little annoyed though, and I feel rightfully so. The waiter knew about my son's allergy-- it was on his reservation, we reminded the podium, and we reminded him when we sat down. He went and got the chef to walk us through the buffet. And, no I didn't remind the chef that he would make something special, because I didn't feel right asking for that. My son's used to just eating ice cream, and it's not a problem. The waiter brought out a cupcake (we didn't ask for one) sang happy birthday and then walked away as quickly as possible without saying he could eat it. Since I had gotten a call from the chef saying he would have something safe, I wasn't sure if he could eat it or not. My 5yo took a lick of the icing before we could warn him not to, and we told him not to eat anymore until we talked to the waiter. Waiter came back after 10 min. and we asked him if cupcake was safe. He said, oh no, it's not. So, Disney's not always perfect when it comes to allergies. I'm glad you've had these great experiences, and for the most part we really have too, but that doesn't mean every experience will be like that. Luckily my son was ok. WE did not ask them to bring out a cupcake by the way--- they just did it. Crystal Palace put the candle in a waffle, and we thought that was awesome.

Then on the last trip to Chef Mickey (we still went back because the kids love it), it wasn't even his birthday, and the chef (different chef) brought out bowls and bowls of safe treats for him straight from the kitchen. We couldn't believe it, it was so nice. So, just because you had an experience at a restaurant, doesn't mean everyone has the same experience. I'm sorry--- but the "hmmm" in your statement, made me feel like you were questioning my experience on my son's birthday.

You are right, Disney is not perfect, but they are pretty good. When DS was smaller and we first started bringing him to the buffets, I would walk around with the chef to see what was "safe." After an unfortunate incident at Hollywood & Vine (NEVER AGAIN!), I learned my lesson to ask to have a plate made in the back for him at buffets every time. It may appear lke special treatment, but it's necessary. I never feel bad about asking and my experiences with the chefs have always been positive, especially at Crystal Palace and Boma. Desserts are tricky for us, particularly at Chef Mickey's. DS always wants gummies and I won't even let him have those as I am too concerned about cross-contamination (even though they are in containers).

Sorry your child did not get the dessert you were expecting. We have been given Rice Dream ice cream at CM's but DS has never had any kind of cake there. The chef at CP did make DS a delicious nut-free and egg-free brownie and we did not need to call ahead for it. It depends on what's available at each restaurant and (obviously) how long it takes to make. Calling ahead used to mean something but these days it does not. That is why, for example, I will not go to CM's for breakfast with DS, unless I am willing to wait an extra 30-40 minutes for his breakfast to come out (and we feel bad eating before him).

I agree complete--- Disney is excellent with allergies. I was just explaining that because one person had an experience that was great, doesn't meant every experience was exceptional. As far as the dessert, we were not upset at all about not getting something special (again we never asked for anything special)--- I was just upset about a waiter bringing my son something that he knew our son couldn't eat, and then not giving us a heads up before he walked away that it wasn't safe.

Technically Disney does not make those brownies...they are made by Divies. They also have chocolate chip cookies, caramel corn, and jelly beans. Look them up online and you can even purchase those items and have them delivered too!

I wasn't talking about brownies? They brought us a cupcake (made at Disney)-- was not peanut free. We did get a peanut free/gluten free/ egg free brownie on another trip to chef mickey, but they weren't Divvies (they weren't made by Disney either, I forget the company). We love Divvies though, we do get Divvies all of the time at home--- We get them delivered so my son always has a special treat to bring in to school for birthday celebrations. We also enjoy them at the resorts!!!
