Anaheim Marriott? Is it walkable?

I have hotel points and am considering staying there. I have little idea of how far of a walk it is.

This would be for 2 fairly athletic women who have no problems walking distances. I'm more concerned with safety and quality of the walk than distance, but after a long day, distance does become more of a factor :)

I know I could stay at FFI, but there is a better deal at Anaheim Marriott.

According to Gmaps pedometer, it's over a mile, more like a mile and a quarter. Do you really want to walk a mile and a quarter BEFORE you even start your 8-12 miles a day walk around Disneyland? Not to mention how it's going to feel on your tootsies at the end of the day.

We stayed at HoJo, which was 1/2 a mile. At the end of the day, boy-o, it looked SO far down to the stoplight at Manchester!

On the other hand, you could take ART from there. Especially if it's a really great deal. It sure is a nice hotel.

Yes, it is over a mile to walk and I would not want to do it. I have stayed at the Hilton across the street and walked from there but that was when you could cut through the parking lot which is no longer there due to the expansion. Even then it was quite a walk and we took ART most of the time. I think it would be worth it to stay at the Marriott though and use ART to get to the park. Nice hotel!

Thank you! How does ART work? Is it pretty reasonably priced and is it easy to get back at the end of the evening (say, closing time when there's a crowd)?

ETA: I wouldn't mind the walk in the morning, but I don't want to walk that far at the end of the day!

The ART bus usually runs every 20 minutes or so, and has various routes in the area so that the bus comes by all the major hotels/motels. You need to buy a pass befor boarding; you can buy them on the ART website ( http://www.rideart.org/index.php?loc=1 ), at the kiosk by the bus/shuttle are in front of the Parks (kiosk is right under the Monorail track, near the pay phones), and at various hotels/motels (don't know if they sell them @ the one you're planning on staying at). You can buy 1, 3, and 5 day passes; they're reasonably priced ($4, $10, and $16). I found the ART bus to be a great help getting around the resort area, especially if you like to take a swim/nap break in the middle of the day. The last couple buses at the end of the day can be standing-room-only, though.

It's too bad that they got rid of their own shuttle. :sad1:

Oh, thank you, spacermaid! That's great info. Just out of curiosity, what happens if the last shuttle is full and you're still standing in the waiting zone? :scared1:

They had their own shuttle?! I wish they still did!

I ended up walking one night; I was staying at Stovall's, and walking by myself (no kids; the rest of my family left the Park a few hours previous) wasn't scary, but it sure was a LONG walk! If I had it to do over again, I'd have taken a cab. (Or gone back to the hotel when everyone else did )

Ah! I'll keep your experience in mind. Since the park closes at midnight the night we're staying there, there is little chance that we'll be able to last until closing :upsidedow. We've only managed it once or twice.

Question: I'm going with my adult dd. We originally planned a quick 1-night trip, which is mainly so I can activate my Costco AP before Oct 31. The other day, my dh said we ought to stay another night. Great idea , I thought. Airfare--no problem because there is no fee to change it (SW). Hotel--problem. No availability at the 2 hotels we have reservations for (Hojo @ ent rate of $69, then reserved DLH @ AP rate of $159 and didn't cancel Hojo yet).

So...remembered that I have enough MyPoints for a free night at a Marriott or Hyatt property. Found that the Anaheim Marriott has a special where you get a $100 Disney gift card for staying on certain nights, Oct 23 being one of them! Free night thanks to points, free $100 Disney gc thanks to Marriott.

Now the question: what do you think I should do for our 1st night? Keep Hojo or keep DLH? Or cancel both and stay another night at the Marriott? I liked the idea of DLH since we're going to the ToT party on the 22nd, but I could save $100 staying at Hojos. I know one or both will likely become available before our trip, but now I'm hooked on the idea of getting the $100 gc , esp. since I hope to make another quick trip during the Christmas season. Um, dh doesn't know about that one yet .

*ETA: Woot! Just changed our airfare and we ended up getting a credit! Christmas season, here I come... ok, it was only $10, but still...
