Anaheim/LA plans

Our stay in CA has been expanded by a few days, so now we will have time to do some of the things in the LA area that we weren't originally able to do. Now I am faced with hotel questions again. Would it be easier to just extend our original Howard Johnson stay and drive to LA a couple of days in a row or should I just make reservations at a hotel in LA for those days. We were planning on seeing the Natural History Museum, the Tar Pits, and the Santa Monica Pier, if that makes any difference.

If you're going to LA on weekdays, the drive will take longer, so that's a big incentive to move to a new hotel.

It will be Saturday and Sunday.

We didn't have any trouble with LA traffic when we went on Sunday, but our second trip to LA/Santa Monica was on a Wednesday and the traffic was awful. It took us an hour to go from Griffith Park to the Westwood Memorial Park which was 8 miles away. It took 2 hours to get from Santa Monica back to Anaheim in stop and go traffic.
