Where to stay between Anaheim and San Diego? It will be 10 to 15 of us, adults and children.

How far between the two do you want to stay, and do you want to stay near the freeway or near the beach?

There are several locations along the beach, and also along the freeway.

Off of the freeway, closer to Orange County are Mission Viejo San Juan Capistrano, & San Clemente.

Oceanside is closer to San Diego (about 40 minutes from San Diego), and then you have Carlsbad.

Along the beach you have Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Oceanside, & Carlsbad.

I would either stay in Anaheim near the parks, or stay in San Diego near Sea World in Mission Bay. Stay closest to whichever activity you will do the most of. If you will be at DL for more than one day, then it only makes sense to stay there those days and maybe even more hotels down to San Diego for the last half of your trip to do the attractions there. There is a great Hilton resort on the bay in San Diego that has rentals for water activities and a spa and dining.

I would not recommend Mission Beach unless your family are big drinkers. We don't & we couldn't bring the kids to the beach b/c all the college kids (this was June 06) were partying on the beach - all day. I was told Coronado is very family oriented.

And another thing we ran into was a 3 hour drive from Newport Beach to San Diego - it was Saturday traffic & it was horrible!! It was only a 70 mile trip I believe!

So before going be sure of the traffic you may encounter & what the atmosphere is like.

I just booked a stay at West Inn and Suites in Carlsbad, (by Legoland). According to trip advisor, it is the #1 hotel pick in Carlsbad. I didn't want to stay all the way down in Hotel Circle, and my husband didn't want to stay in Anaheim after a week at DLH (said kids would be sad). The pictures of the property are awesome, free parking and free breakfast, free shuttle to Legoland (save on parking)!! AAA discounts.

Thinking about doing as DizneyMommy suggested and splitting the stay. Need to look into which city airfare is the least expensive and go from there.

Thanks everyone

We just returned from a stay at the West Inn in Carlsbad. It was WONDERFUL! Lovely hotel, excellent customer service, awesome free hot breakfast and we also used the shuttle to LL!

Can't say enough good things about the West Inn. Have a great stay.
