An Unforgettable Finish- Oct 2011 TR **Happily Ever After (Completed 5/3)

I had to get new sunglasses in Disney last year, and it was difficult. I'm the same way, I need the perfect pair or I won't bother. Glad you found some you liked!

Rope Drop at AK sounds a little underwhelming. I'd like to see it, but it's not really a priority. MK rope drop however, is amazing! I'd love to start every Disney day doing MK rope drop! :lovestruc

Sounds like you guys had fun on the safari! :cool1:

I'm joining in your TR! Congrats on completing your first 5K! What I am most interested to hear in your report, though, are your thoughts on staying off-site, as I know you were hesitant. My mom just bought a condo in Kissimmee, so after this next trip (it's not furnished yet) it will be off-site from here out.

Welcome! Thanks, the 5K was awesome and it was actually a lot easier than I thought it'd be. Thoughts on staying offsite...well, I think if you owned a condo in Kissimmee then staying there would be awesome. The biggest thing that bothered me about being offsite is simply that we usually stay onsite, so some of the things that I consider to be Disney things weren't there, like watching Disney resort TV or using Mickey soap or never seen the "See Ya Real Soon" sign. But I think if we usually stayed in a condo, then I wouldn't expect any of those things and I'd like everything about it. :thumbsup2

I know exactly what you mean about the sun glasses. I can never find any that I can stand to wear either. If they don't fit just right, they're just annoying!

I'm sorry rope drop wasn't so spectacular, but it looks like it was a good thing that you were there and able to get to Safari so quick. I feel sorry for poor Carter having to put up with Landon playing with his food.:lmao::rotfl2:

Sunglasses shopping is tough. I never thought I'd want to wear sunglasses, after having to wear glasses for most of my life, but when they fit right, they're really great.

I just don't think rope drop is our sort of thing. It was fun to get right on the Safari and see the rhino up close, but for the most part, I'm okay with getting there later. I love Landon dearly, but there are times when I'm sure he's not the easiest brother to have. :rotfl:

Sorry race morning was crazy! The DJ had some nerve! :lmao:

It's pretty cool that you get to see behind the scenes of AK during the race! We are thinking about doing it next year when we head back.

I love how they give the kids metals too! Especially after being so good in strollers!

I forgot my sunglasses our AK day too and stopped to get some at that shop! Only my were a purple tint and they aren't very Disney not even a hidden Mickey which I was bummed about. I mean how does Disney sell something that isn't obvious Disney product? :confused3

Race morning wasn't much fun, but once it started, we had a great time.

I loved seeing some of the backstage areas at AK. I wonder if the courses go backstage during all of the races. You should give the race a try! It's even more fun in person than reading about it.

The boys were very happy to get medals, especially Landon. He looked like he knew exactly what an honor it was to get a medal and he definitely thought he had earned one. :rotfl:

I know! There were a lot of sunglasses at that shop that weren't Disney-ish at all! I guess maybe some people wouldn't want Disney sunglasses, but I thought it was really cool to have little Mickey's on the side. It's subtle, but still Disney.

Thanks for the link! I'm gonna bookmark it and read it little by little so I'll let you know if I do spot myself! That would be hilarious.

YEAH... I mean they are expanding the park! That Avatar thing or whatever. Though I guess probably not behind Everest. But still... haha.

YAY! New sunglasses that are pinkish AND have Mickey on them?! I want some!

I don't blame Carter for not liking Landon's peanut butter mess either! Haha I know how it is to have messy siblings. Ick.

I agree, the Animal Kingdom rope drop show isn't all that thrilling. Then again, neither is Hollywood Studios. Even so, they add a little excitement to the wait. :thumbsup2

I hope you like the December TR! We had a great trip that time and maybe we did run into you at some point.

I'm really not looking forward to the whole Avatar expansion. I'm hoping it will fall through still. I really and truly hated the movie Avatar so to have my most hated movie brought to life in my most beloved park is going to be unpleasant. I suppose sticking it behind Everest wouldn't be the worst place.

I love those sunglasses! They're holding up really well so far.

My brother and I were both messy kids, so I have a hard time relating to Carter sometimes. But I will agree that that peanut butter mess was yucky.

I guess the AK show is better than nothing, but I always sort of feel like I'd get into the parks quicker if they'd just skip the preshow. I suppose it doesn't work like that really, but it would be nice.

Sorry I missed an update (I've been sick all week and not staying up to date with DIS things...I really need to get mine TR going too so I can start my PTR for the January trip).

Landon cracks me up with giving Carter his peanut butter and Carter not caring for it. I can just see that look in Landon's eyes that you described.

I can't remember if we've ever done a rope drop at AK...I think we always have gone for EMH's and they don't do the show. :confused3

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. This time of year is always the worst for getting sick. It's always very motivating when you have a new PTR to start as soon as your TR is finished.

Landon's very funny. He makes me laugh all the time. I'm sure as he gets older, I'll have to make sure he doesn't torment Carter too badly. A messy person can aggravate a neat person very easily.

I wouldn't be at all surprised for the AK rope drop show to be something you'd forget seeing after awhile. Maybe it's more exciting for kids, but for us, it was kind of dull.

Sounds like y'all were off to a good start in the park after a good finish in the race! :thumbsup2

That's great that they had breakfast items in the goody bag. Perfect!

Glad the safari didn't disappoint. That's too cool about the rhinoceros! I would've been holding Reid down tight, too.

We were going to have the best park day ever! I love the first full day of a Disney vacation.

I was glad to see breakfast foods, especially ones that Carter and Landon would like. It just as easily could have been full of Halloween candy.

Seeing the rhinoceros that close up was awesome. I had a really good grip on Landon during the whole thing.

How cool getting to see backstage! Views of AK the average vacationer wouldn't get to see! :thumbsup2 Too bad the rope drop show was nothing special! :sad2: I've never been to AK's before, and now I am in no big hurry to see it! That is great that they give you goodie bags with yummy breakfast food! How cute about Landon getting Carter icky with peanut butter! What brotherly love! :rotfl: I'm glad the safari was fun and the animals were active! That's always the best! :goodvibes

I loved going backstage and seeing some new parts of the park. I really wouldn't care much if we never made it to AK's rope drop again, but I'm glad we did it once. Once the boys get bigger, I'm hoping to go back to staying out late and sleeping even later. We hadn't eaten any breakfast yet, so I was really glad to see that there was breakfast food in those bags. The look on Landon's face when he gave his peanut butter mess to Carter was priceless. I love Safaris where the animals come really close!

I was really surprised when that last pair ending up being perfect. It's so hard to find a new pair, but I do love shopping at Disney.

Mk rope drop always sounds like it would be a lot better than the AK rope drop. I like the music when it comes on Magical Mouse Radio. Maybe someday I'll see it in person.

We did have a lot of fun on that Safari. It might have been our best Safari yet.

What a cute time with the animals! Those have to be the most mellow goats in the world... although I'm sure being well fed more than makes up for any extra-toddler lovin they may receive

Hope you made it to Rainforest Cafe!

Hahaha, it's always the heaviest kid that wants to be carried at the most inopportune time, isn't it? Joaquin is like that. That boy is not light.

I like the sounds of the rainforest. I always thought it was pretty cool. Great idea to bring the kiddos in there.

Thanks! Those goats did seem very mellow. Landon was awfully demonstrative with his affection, but the goats tolerated him pretty well, other than running from him.:rotfl:

Very bad time for the train to be late!

It sure does seem to work that way. Carter always likes to be carried and Landon always likes to walk. If only they could trade! Joaquin and Carter look like they'd be built similarly.

I had heard the Sounds of the Rainforest once before and I did think it was pretty cool. It was great for the boys, too.

Glad the boys enjoyed their time with the animals. I wander why they weren't allowed to feed the goats that particular stick?
I hope the restaurant worked with you all and kept your ADR (that is if you didn't make it on time). At least you (hopefully) tired Carter and Landon out before the meal.

All caught up!

It sounds like y'all were having a great start to the day in AK! The pictures of the boys with the goat are too cute! And I know what you mean about Carter being so heavy to carry. Reid has always been that way. Ever since he was born, he was in the higher percentile for weight, but he's never been fat. But, OMG, my child feels like he's made of bricks! It can really put a strain on you & your back rather quickly.

Lunch sounds very good - and I'm not a fan of Rainforest Cafe. Almost makes me want to give them another chance. Almost. :lmao:

And I completely understand about having to watch college football. Ed & I are die-hard college football fans. In fact, for certain reasons, we've decided to not go to Disney next October & instead we moved our trip to the 2nd week of December. Besides the reasons that made us change to that week, I also figured college football will be over until the bowls start & we won't miss any important games! :thumbsup2

Great pictures of the boys with the goats!

I love that you referred to the stuffed animals as his "posse", my DD's stuffed animals are "my guys".

We enjoyed RFC last trip, the food was pretty good, and you can't beat the atmosphere with kids! :thumbsup2

Great updates! I've never made my way back to Rafiki's Planet Watch before... I think we're definitely going to make some time for it, this time around though. Our Landon loves animals, although he likes to chase them around and pet them, but then once they turn and walk towards him, he's done. :lmao::rotfl2:

I'm glad that Landon appreciated the humor of you trying to feed him a funny looking (and funny tasting) apple.:lmao::rotfl:

The boys look so happy playing with the animals at AK :goodvibes

Sounds like you guys had a good meal at Rainforest Cafe...I have never had a meal there, but just walking through to check it out was very cool!

Petting the goats looks like fun! I think we'll take Everett over there this trip, I think he would like interacting with animals that didn't automatically run away from him, like our cats do!

Glad you guys made the ADR! Just in time! Reading about your Rainforest Cafe experience has inspired me, and I think I'll take Everett there for lunch today! He loves it, and it would be a perfect birthday week treat!

Hope the boys napped for you so you could get some rest!

What a great morning at AK! Your boys were so adorable playing with the goats, especially the "illegal" feeding. :lmao: We need pictures of your new sunglasses! Lunch at RC looks yummy.

Awww the boys are too cute with the goats! I love the Landon kept calling them doggies!

Figures the train was doing a test run when you had an ADR to get to! Ugh!! :scared1:

I love Rainforest Cafe! I'm surprised the boys weren't afraid of the thunderstorms, I've seen kids twice their age burst into tears during the storms! :rotfl2:

Hi! So I finished your December TR! (I KNOW, ALREADY?!) Yay for free time!
I took notes along the way so I could relate where yall were to where we were from Wednesday to Saturday... so I'm just gonna apologize in advance for the LONGEST comment ever.

Honest to God, we did the same things on different days...

Yall went to Downtown Disney Tuesday night,
we went on Wednesday night after we arrived.

Yall went to DHS Wednesday morning, then again that night for the lights, THEN went to Epcot and at least heard Jodi Benson do the Candlelight Processional.
We went to DHS Thursday morning, then went to Epcot, then to DHS again that night for the lights, THEN back to Epcot and saw Jodi Benson do the Candlelight Processional.
(I also wanted to say, I know it's been almost a year, but I am so sorry about poor Carter's arm! That's like the last thing you want to happen ever, especially at Disney. :( )

OK continuing...
Yall saw the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian on Thursday, and we went and saw it on Wednesday.
Yall went to MVMCP Thursday, we went Friday. (Weird, because I didn't even know they had them both nights!)

Ok so we WERE at Animal Kingdom on the same day! However... we went for rope drop and only stayed until around noon. (DANG 2 day tickets!)
It said yall got there after noon. Goodness gracious. Even Jeremy was wearing his Lee shirt! I would have totally said something had I seen him.

TOO FUNNY. So yeah, we were never at the same place at the same time. So basically yall just look familiar for no apparent reason!

I loved your latest updates! So cute. The boys are too cute with the goats. Glad yall enjoyed Rainforest!

Looks like your family is having lots of fun. I have gotten really behind, so I'm going back to read. :)

Sorry I've been missing from your updates (I've been sick for over ten days). I just wanted to pop in and wish you and you of your hubby and those adorable boysrs a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I didn't even know you had started, I am so sorry for slacking :) You guys rock- between doing the 5K as a family and dressing your boys in such cute outfits. I am SO excited-- we will be there so soon, and looking at your little blonde 1 year old is making me so excited to see how mine likes it!!!!
