I am putting this out there for all to see. I have had to close down several threads in the past few days due to nasty postings.
I have no issue whatsoever with differing opinions. In fact, I welcome them. It's a great way to learn and possibly allow others to see something from a different point of view. I myself have had a change of view due to someone's differing opinions on the boards.

BUT....those differing opinions must be put out there with respect and politeness. There is no room for nastiness or negative posting towards others here. There is no room for info that isn't spot on...no room for 'rumors' or 'a friend of my hairdressers brother-in-laws cousin told me' type postings. This board is about way too serious a subject to have supposition and rumor put out.

I have been accused of allowing only those posts that agree with my viewpoints to remain while deleting those that disagree with me. And that is so far from the truth it is almost laughable. I have deleted posts that have violated board guidelines. Period. If anyone, at any time, has an issue with what I have done, please feel free to contact board admin. Believe me, they do not always back your moderators!!

And on another note..please be aware that we (as moderators) are fully cognizant of those who post under various screen names. Please be aware that it is against board guidelines to post under another screen name if you have been banned while using another screen name. We have had several instances of some posting under one screen name and getting infraction points, so they started posting under another screen name. Believe me....generally speaking, posting styles remain the same and makes it very easy to spot the person doing this.
There is no problem using several screen names as long as you aren't trying to get away with something.

So..with all this said, I hope that the vast majority of you will understand why certain things are done in a particular way. I can only hope that the boards will be a place where all feel free to come and get info regarding their various trips, be it to WDW or some other place. But, again, there will be no room for nastiness, personal attacks or other such behaviour.

Thanks for your understanding and help in this.

I can vouch for that, LOL. :lmao:

Do you know my other name??? :3dglasses :earboy2:

Hey, Diane, maybe I will see you while you are there?

I hear ya Dan.
Hopefully we can touch base in two weeks. I arrive on 12/6, leave on the 13th. Hope to see you there. I 'think' Karen and I are doing the party on Thursday night.

Thanks I think you should post that in every forum it true their away to make your point with out being nasty to each other.

Thank you, goofy4tink! I wondered if it was just me regarding the nasty posts. We should be more aware of being at least nice or neutral to others who post opinions that are different from our own. Your post was really needed! :thumbsup2

Seriously? With over 70,000 posts - you have time for another name? :lmao::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

:worship:

:rolleyes1
Sure. That's an average of 'only' about 13 posts per day; with a laptop, a desktop, and a smartphone, somebody could post under three diffferent names at pretty much the same time! Not, of course, that Dan is one of those people!

You've been more then fair. Some people are in the "tin hat" category. I'm not mentioning any specific poster. A lot of the "tin hat" is in the links that people are posting. I don't see how you have time to moderate.

What the heck does a better mouse trap have to do with this topic?

I didn't say a thing.

Thanks goofy for the job you do. I'm probably as guilty as the next guy/gal with letting my fingers run away from my brain.
I'll remember to play nice with others.

No worries...if you could only see some of the stuff I type out and then delete, you would be shocked. I do try to keep a cool head, but sometimes it just gets to me and I get very nasty..but after typing it out, I feel better and so can then delete it. Very cathartic!!!

Now that is pretty funny. Although I do believe he meant 'tin hat' but I could be wrong. I like the 'tin cat' version much better.

Said in jest.

Only have had that name, my own, since I started here on the DIS back in early '99. And the great majority of those posts came from years ago as a rather interactive moderator type on the community board here, back before the 'team' thing they have now.

Correct, kayti, only one name, mine.

The general tone on this site is 100 times nicer than some message board sites I've seen. Having a moderator on a board is like having a sheriff in town. You might not always agree with the sheriff, but the alternative is like the wild wild west. Anonymity seems to make some people think they can say anything.

I'm a movie buff and I used to love a certain large international movie database site (not to name names). That site doesn't have moderators and the trolls have taken over. It's gone downhill fast with nasty, obscene, racist, bullying trolls. So whenever I see someone complain about mean posters here, I think ... you have no idea how bad it could be.
