An Ohana Reunion...The Waterless Cruise...

Sorry guys....yes we are speaking RCI, most DVC people wouldn't even follow it.

I guess all you need to know is that I'm trying to be there in August and I may luck out and get a DVC resort. If not I'll be offsite. And this is all dependent upon me still being employed in August.

Hey Diane, let me know if you do make it to Vegas, maybe I'll jaunt down for a few days. And we could hook up with Todd and family.

It won't be for a few years, because I'm NOT bringing the kids. ;) But I'll definitely give you a heads up when we do! ::yes::

Mary Ann & Monica are actually talking about RCI, which DVC has just changed to using for non-Disney destinations. Since they own at RCI, they have to grab whatever becomes available as a trade-in at DVC. Since it's new, I imagine it's very popular. Not that I understand exactly how that all works either since I've never traded, but I hope to trade into RCI one of these days. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon, Niagra Falls, Las Vegas, etc.

If you do the GC you HAVE to also do Zion National Park. It is just a short drive from LV -- a couple of hours. Southern Utah is beautiful!!!! Of course I can come up with all kinds of beautiful National Parks & Monuments in that part of the country..... We used to do alot of 2 & 3 wks long car trips!!! :goodvibes

Question for Mary Ann - where is your home resort? Just curious what kind of trade was made. My resort is in Texas, not very desirable. But my mom's is in Lake Tahoe whice may prove more valuable.

This is too confusing to us non DVC people.:rolleyes1

That's OK, when people talk about points, use year/month, borrowing points and so on, I have no CLUE. Except for Maintainence dues....that I am very familar with. :goodvibes

I actually own 4 units at three different resorts - all are in South Africa. Two are on the beach, one of which is in Durban next door to Ushaka Marine World during prime season. Those two units are the ones allowing me to pull DVC. My other two units are dog traders in RCI and would never see DVC.

BTW, I trade in RCI Weeks, not RCI Points. My understanding is that each side is seeing totally different inventory come up for DVC.

Why South Africa you ask.....stumbled upon it when I was researching buying Timeshare. At the time I purchased my timeshare (2003) the US Dollar was 10:1 against the SA Rand, which is the currency I pay dues in (are you following all this, Cheryl ;) ). Some years the exchange rate works out great for me (in Oct it went to 11.25:1) and sometimes not so great.

Lake Tahoe, depending upon the time she owns, should be strong enough to see DVC, providing there is something to see in RCI trading bank.

With RCI, when it comes to trading, it's all about supply and demand as opposed to II (the company DVC used to trade with) which was all about quality. I have a standard resort in SA, but it is in a very sought after area/vacation time so it boosts my trade power, but even given that, I was suprised (pleasantly) that I could pull DVC.

Thanks MaryAnn

Sorry for boring everyone else.

Back on topic, any activities planned? Fireworks cruise? Grand Gathering? Pub crawl to see each resort??

Thanks MaryAnn

We are waiting a few more weeks to see who has confirmed and then start planning activities. Hope you are able to join us!

You could become a DVC people! :)

I could just not tell you the room number and see if you can make out the scent or rum and diet Sprite :lmao:

It depends what flavor of Rum. I have discovered a whole new world out there instead of Mike's now. :lmao: :lmao:

Thanks for looking out for me!:worship:

Always have to watch out for my children.!!;) ;)

So the MIL situation (and I can't make this stuff up....)

After last update, she was transferred to Alzheimers section of a local nursing home where she continuted to have delusions about killing babies and other out there stuff. She's in the nursing home about a week when last Monday (10 days ago) she suffers seizures late in the day and is rushed back to the hospital. My DW is besider herself, but my BIL is there and reports several times on Tuesday that MIL is in one big seizure state, staring at ceiling but body twitching. Given that she doesn't seem to be there at all, DW decides to stay home and let BIL handle. Wednesday DW gets call from BIL, he just left MIL room in hospital. When he and my FIL got there on Wed, she was sitting up in bed, eating (which she hadn't been for 3 weeks), talking and wondering why she was in hospital with no recollection of last two weeks. After considerable conversation, there are no signs of delusions, etc.

Thursday, Friday, she is still lucid and all there (or as much as she was before....). Saturday she is discharged home. Despite the battery of tests, they can't find anything to explain the last few weeks. The theory they ended up on was a bad reaction to the generic of Wellbutrin. Apparently this type of delusional behavior is a rare, but reported side effect. Also, Wellbutrin withdraw may include involuntary twitching, etc. Turns out the Dr. in nursing home has started to discontinue a number of her meds as she was on quite a few from the guesswork of the last two weeks. One he stopped was the Wellbutrin generic.

Of course, can't just end there. On Monday, my BIL goes to house to take FIL to his monthly Dr. visit. While there he picks up phone, its local police, wanting to know the names of the FIL grandchildren. After he gives them the names, they say "what about Christopher XXXXX." BIL replies, "Funny you should ask, he's napping in next room, he's our home health aide (for FIL handicap)." They say thanks and hang up.

Five minutes later, several patrol cars pull in and block driveway and team of officers come to door and arrest the home health aide. Turns out he has been robbing my in-laws blind. Jewelry, clothes (stole my FIL pajamas), etc. etc. He attempted to pawn a ring engraved with my FIL name and the police doing routine pawn shop checks decided to check it out. Apparently the number one culprit in this type of incident is the Grandchildren, hence the questions.

So MIL is home and seems to be better, although she has lost probably 50 pounds in the last three months or so, so she is a little frail right now.

We will see.....

Thanks for all your prayers, wishes and thoughts.:grouphug:

Wow!

I'm hoping that this is the end of Ellen's Mom's current issues and that she can get back to normal. We'll continue to keep her and your family in our prayers.

I'm also glad the home health aide got caught. I doubt they'll recover much, but at least he won't be taking anything else.

OMgosh Tom! I am so sorry that you & DW had to go through such a difficult time! Glad to hear MIL is doing better & I hope it stays that way. On top of everything to then be dealing with thefts is just unbelievable! I am glad he was caught! I hope the rest of 2009 goes much more smoothly for you all!

Thanks. I think the bulk of valuables have been located and police are canvassing the other area pawn shops. There is a requirement the shop hold it for 30 days before selling and he hasn't been there 30 days yet....

But he stole and was sleeping in my FIL used pajamas..... :confused3

After three weeks up North and three weeks with the house loaded with family I am finally starting to dig out. Just catching up and have to say I hope everyone will have a better new year. We will be adding you to our prayers.

I haven't booked our room for August yet. I am waiting to see just what dates we want to be there. Since I am borrowing two nights from DD's DVC I want to wait to make sure I book the right ones. But from the DVC standpoint Sunday through Thursday would be best for us. DH only has a couple of vacation days not already scheduled. So I'll be watching for the best dates for us to book. We will probably try for BW or BCV. We just stayed at BW and AKV during the holidays and both were great.

We were lucky enough to spend Christmas and the 26th and then the 30th to the 2nd at WDW with the whole family. They put on the New Year's Eve fireworks at the Magic Kingdom both on the 30th and 31st so we were able to see both the MK and Epcot celebrations this year. The girls rated MK the best for the show itself and Epcot for sheer volume. I took my DGD back to BW before the fireworks on New Years Eve and the window to the balcony was actually vibrating during the finale. Our BW room faced the courtyard and they had a DJ and dance party going on until 1 AM. It seemed like everyone was having a great time.

Enough rambling, the only news that I have is that American Idol at Hollywood Studios is openings on 2/14. They are having a FL resident and passholder preview before. I can't remember the exact dates. They were holding the cast preview this week. Since only my son-in-law can carry a tune we'll be just spectators for that one.

Welcome back Barbara! Sounds like a great New Years! We went for the millenium celebration & again a few years later, but I think it will be a while before we get back to WDW again for the holidays. It's just so expensive to fly that time of year so maybe it will be when we retire to Florida in about 10 years.

If you want to book Sunday thru Friday & join us for some activities, try for August 16th to the 21st. :thumbsup2

Des I feel the same way you do! I hate it hate it hate it! Unfortunately I love to travel & it's the only way to go so I take a couple or three Xanax by the time I'm in the air & I pass out. Seriously one just doesn't cut it for me, because I think I'm too freaked out or maybe I have a high tolerance. :confused3 Xanax also doesn't help me be any less freaked out, but it does knock me out for most of the flight. :faint:

I'm going to try for BCV. Right now I can only book two nights (that's all the points DD has left). So I'm going to try to arrange it to be there 17th thru 19th. DH is already off Monday and Tuesday and we can tack on one vacation day. We can always try to rearrange or he could suddenly have one of those mysterious Disney viruses come up if there is something planned for another day. What are sick days for -- why waste them when you are actually sick.

Airfare during the holidays is really expensive. Next year is our year to fly up to PA for Christmas. This year DD and her family drove. She is a teacher so has the time and with the cost of gas it made sense. Although she hates the 18 hours in the car, the cost of 4 round trips made it the only logical decision. The grandkids were great on the way down, but the 3 year old wasn't so cooperative on the way home.
