An Observation from Resort Lobbies

We just popped in for a quick WDW visit last week and, in the process, visited a number of resorts: Beach Club, Yacht Club, Poly, Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Riviera.

in every single resort lobby there were people sleeping or resting with bare feet or dirty shoes up on all the furniture (couches, chairs, and tables). And, this was almost entirely adults too.

We had some nice cups of coffee from the Kona coffee bar at the Polynesian and I cringed at the thought of putting any food or coffee down on the tables nearby after seeing a gentleman sleeping in a chair with his dirty bare feet up on the table in front of him.

At the GF, a woman was full-on asleep on a couch with her sneakered feet flat down on the end couch cushion.

Are people really using the lobbies to nap?? Full-on, feet-up, acting-like-you’re-in-your-own-living room naps?

We are long time visitors of WDW and I don’t recall this being as common as it seemed last week.

People’s behavior sucks and this is not Disney specific. Is it disgusting? Yup. They are disrespectful slobs who are in some cases even training their children to be disrespectful slobs. Is Disney gonna be their mommy and tell them to put their feet on the ground? No. So at least there is a plate or cup between you and the lobby tables.

I was just talking to a server at the lounge bar atop Universal’s Aventura Hotel about their kinda weird furniture. She mentioned how their older furniture was even weirder plus had lower tables so all the time people were putting their feet on the tables and it ticked her off so much she’d tell them to put them down. And that was a literal bar where everyone was drinking or eating off of the tables…

This sounds about right, honestly. I drive in and out so I never really "use" the lobbies per say but I've always assumed it's people who got in real early and rooms weren't ready or people who have a later flight and checked out.

If it's not and it's just people getting that cozy, good on them. 😂 The most I do is a rocking chair for a few minutes at Wilderness Lodge or Grand Californian but glad someone's getting use out of them.

Oh yeah! And that has been happening for at least 25 years that I have witnessed in person. People fly in on a red eye and need a place to sleep until their room is ready. Or will nap while the rest of their party shops/eats so they don't have to go "all the way" back to the room.

Yup.

Sorry to burst your but this is definitely not new.

Whether it's a coincidence or evidence of a trend, my family noticed over a decade of visits that we went from our room often being ready early, to our room being ready just on time, to our room not being ready until a few hours _after_ check-in time.

As a result, we became some of the exhausted people who end up collapsing onto the hotel lounge furniture at the end of a long day of travel and touring, desperately waiting to get into a room.(However, we would NEVER put our feet up on the furniture, or otherwise mistreat it!)

I agree with the notion of feet up on furniture in public is gross. But we have been known to catch a cat nap in the lobby while waiting for our room to be ready or when waiting to head to the airport. Don't feel one bit ashamed or guilty about it either. I'm.paying to utilize that specific lobby and if I feel like catching a few winks, I'll fully indulge 😁

Sleep away!! Someone sleeping peacefully in a chair wouldn’t bother me in the least. It’s the feet up on furniture (both tables and cushions) that I find gross and entitled.

I find the coffee tables to be a better use for this. All the buildings have them as well if all are in use.

This happens on Trains, Planes and every public place.
My Dentists came out told teenage Kids to take feet of the chair but they can do this at home. Hippy Mom had no ideas what to say. I laughed.
