An Interesting Thread for Interesting Ideas

I'm on year 14 of French!

I was a French major, but then I decided to minor in it instead.

So now I'm a Journalism/International Afairs Dual Major with a Minor in French.

Bonjour!

Wow, Year 14... I'm only taking French 4 (well, AP French) next year!
But I understood all of that.. yay me? :p

doesn't pero mean dog?

Perro is dog, pero is but. xD

Wow haha.
I was thinking about continuing Spanish next year in college but I really hate all the tenses and everything so I'm finishing it this year. I've done all the final tests, I'm just hoping that I pass when I find out in August. (:

Thanks to private schooling in elementary and middle schools I had a huge jump on everybody going into high school. I spoke with the head of the French department and she wanted to put me into French 3 (Junior level french) my Freshman year. My dad wouldn't let me take a course that hard, though so I started at French 2. Going into college I did the exact same thing. I qualified for Junior level, but took Sophomore instead and almost slept through the entire class out of boredom!

Keep up with it! French is a beautiful language and a lof of people don't realise how widely spoken it is. Everybody's learning Spanish these days when English and French are two of the most widely spoken languages in the professional world (especially world politics).

I know tenses suck, but I got over it for the sake of learning.

wow, what an interesting thread!

I wanted to learn French but we didn't get to choose at my school.

I didn't have a choice in first through eighth grades. It was only when I got to HS that I could choose and I figured I'd just stick with French.

I was close friends with some Spanish and German students (and one of our German exchange students taught me a bit. I MISS JULIA SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA). And my volleyball coach was a Spanish teacher. We always did stretching counts in different languages. We'd rotate every day. Spanish, French, German, Polish (my friend Karolina speaks it fluently because she's first generation Polish-American. Her parents don't speak much English), chinese, Arabic, Japanese, Russian, Italian. It was great.

Haha that sounds awesome. xD
We got taught a tiny bit of French in primary school but in high school I just got given Spanish. I'm just glad I didn't get German - just because I go to Spain more so it's more useful to me.

From year 7-9, it was compulsory to take French and German. From year 8-9, we also had to learn Latin. At year 10, we could choose what languages to take, and we all had to take at least French or German. I ended up taking German. I wish we had the choice to take Spanish.

wow, what an interesting thread!

Wow thanks...lol:thumbsup2:rotfl:

Yay for learning a dead language...well unless your religion still uses it. But I cant say anything more about religion. ;)

I was going to continue with it for GCSEs until someone told me it was difficult and boring. I didn't like one of the teachers either.

And then I decided to take a semester of Ancient Greek in college. That was totally fun. ἐkέ τouς ἵππouς! (among learning how to talk about wars and muses I also learned this little phrase which, when roughly translated, means "hold your horses"!) (it really literally translates as: "you keep/have your horses").

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's pronounced "ek-ay toos hip-poos".

Spanish and French are the best :P I already speak Spanish so I'm taking French. It's pretty easy since I'm familiar with one of the major romance languages already.

hello i am an interesting person (i guess) this thread is awesome

Ohh I wanna join :upsidedow
I'm not really an "old DISer," but I was around back in the "good old days." I read most of the threads, but I never posted.
Hmm let's see. Oh. I'm Emily. Just in case anyone wanted to know
Anddd now I'm gonna go. I just got home from babysitting a sick baby for 7 hours AND I have a test to study for that's really due at midnight, but my professor is letting me take it tomorrow (online summer class). Yay exhaustion!!

I haven't taken French since freshman year in high school (I'll be a sophomore in college in the fall), and I understood all of that. Maybe I did learn something in french... :rotfl:

I studied french all throughout middle school, high school, then for a year and a half in college. i had to stop because the french 301 class was at the same time as a class i needed for my major. i was very sad. i miss french, even though i hated my french professor.

Chestnut Hill area...its North-West Philly. Like past the ghetto area where Will Smith grew up...lol. Its kind of a hippie/rich area but so nice and historical.
