An Inconvenient Truth...

For the treated municipal water , it my mistake.

I did not post these statistic in a "lets attack evil Us" way. Canada is not doing to good in many instances, and my province is far from being the greenest in the country !

"

Ok so for argument sake, say your right, and man is causing mass global warming, so what are you going to do about it? Get rid of your car? Start riding a bicycle? Bikes have rubber tires, making rubber tires has to go through a petroleum process that causes global warming.

Get rid of the power plants and sit in the dark, or use candles? Candles emit emissions that can cause global warming along your line of thinking.

See what I mean, the argument is a little silly if you ask me."

This is bit like saying: we are always going to be sick , or we will alway going to die , so why not stop making medecine , do reserche , or stop smoking.

It is like saying: my ceiling is leaking , I am going to move to another house.

You just exposed abunch of problems without contaplating that there could be a solution to all these problems. If 50 years ago someone would have said: hearts are going to fail there is nothing we can do about it , nobody would have started to performed hart transplant !

It is not by going to the xtrem ridicule of every argument ( use candles? rubber tires ?) that things will evolve: produce better tires , better light bulbs , novel ways to heat and cool our houses. We will always produce goods. The question is are we willing to examinate how we produce them , and how we use them.

Ok then I ask you again, are YOU going to get rid of your car? Or are you just going to leave it to others to help solve the problem of man-made global warming??????????

Ok so I demand that you and all others on this thread that believe in man-made global warming to give away your cars TODAY, otherwise you are a hypocrite and contributing to global warming

I missed the part in ANY of my responses where I said that I believe in man-made global warming??? :confused3

You might want read my posts before calling me a hypocrite, I only ever responded to this thread because someone claimed global warming only meant warmer temperatures. (post #158) I never once commented on *what* causes it, I only commented that I believe it to be very real.

See , I am a smoker, and I know it is bad for me , and bad for people around me. I chose to smoke outside( even at my house !) as to not imposse my smoke to others. Since I know what I do is harmfull, I am an hypocryte for still smoking? No ( I will say that it is stupid to smoke). I still smoke , but more respectfully. I know that my comparission is hiffy , but still , you get my drift.

Ok sorry, then I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to those on here that believe in man-made global warming. Seems they want to complain and cry out for the US governent for more regulations or what not, but as far as them getting rid of THEIR car and putting their money where there mouth is, Forget that, DOING something about it is for OTHER people not me, I'm going to keep my car and keep using electricity that comes from that bad ole coal plant down the street.:rolleyes1

I go to work by bus and subway in winter and by bike in summer. I run my errand by walking. I use my car ( wich I had for the first time when I turne 40 , two yeras ago)only when nessesary. I decided to try to change my habits and use my "stuff" in better ways. As I said , You can only see the exteme , when in fact , a lot of the solutions are quite simple.

Um...because the iceburgs are HIGHER than sea level.

Your example of the ice cubes displacing water is ONLY when the cubes are submerged in water (not above it as in the case of an iceburg) errr...or am I the only one here who watches CSI: Vegas?

They still displace the same amount of water, even though they're "higher" than the water.

Man, no wonder people are suckered into believing the false science that the global warming lefties are selling.

Well most buses I see shoot out more black soot and smoke than most cars. I dare say those buses are a HUGE contributor to man-made global warming, shame shame shame.

Yess , they do pollute, but they carry a lot more people than a car: if I go to work by car, I poluute, but If go to work by bus , I still polute , but less because my car would carry only me , and even if the bus pollutes 5 time more than my car , since we are always more than 5 people , our individual pollution is less.

Again , you go by the ridicule when I only say that there are less harmfull ways to do things. We are not in a perfect world , so there are no perfect solutions.

Did somebody mention science???

Water is most dense at 4 degrees Celsius. Above and below this temperature, the density of water decreases (the same weight of water occupies a bigger space). So as the overall temperature of the water increases it expands, making the oceans rise.

If you were a real champion against man made global warming, you would use a skate board, they emit no emissions, and most of the products they are made out of I believe can be manufactured in an environmentally friendly way.:woohoo:

Man, no wonder people are suckered into believing the false science that the global warming lefties are selling.

"This higher temperature may be causing some floating icebergs to melt, but this will not make the oceans rise. Icebergs are large floating chunks of ice. In order to float, the iceberg displaces a volume of water that has a weight equal to that of the iceberg. Submarines use this principle to rise and sink in the water by changing their weight.

But the rising temperature and icebergs could play a small role in the rising ocean level. Icebergs are chunks of frozen glaciers that break off from landmasses and fall into the ocean. The rising temperature may be causing more icebergs to form by weakening the glaciers, causing more cracks and making ice more likely to break off. As soon as the ice falls into the ocean, the ocean rises a little.

If the rising temperature affects glaciers and icebergs, could the polar ice caps be in danger of melting and causing the oceans to rise? This could happen, but no one knows when it might happen.

The main ice covered landmass is Antarctica at the South Pole, with about 90 percent of the world's ice (and 70 percent of its fresh water). Antarctica is covered with ice an average of 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) thick. If all of the Antarctic ice melted, sea levels around the world would rise about 61 meters (200 feet). But the average temperature in Antarctica is -37°C, so the ice there is in no danger of melting. In fact in most parts of the continent it never gets above freezing.

At the other end of the world, the North Pole, the ice is not nearly as thick as at the South Pole. The ice floats on the Arctic Ocean. If it melted sea levels would not be affected.

There is a significant amount of ice covering Greenland, which would add another 7 meters (20 feet) to the oceans if it melted. Because Greenland is closer to the equator than Antarctica, the temperatures there are higher, so the ice is more likely to melt.

But there might be a less dramatic reason than polar ice melting for the higher ocean level -- the higher temperature of the water. Water is most dense at 4 degrees Celsius. Above and below this temperature, the density of water decreases (the same weight of water occupies a bigger space). So as the overall temperature of the water increases it naturally expands a little bit making the oceans rise.

In 1995 the International Panel on Climate Change issued a report which contained various projections of the sea level change by the year 2100. They estimate that the sea will rise 50 centimeters (20 inches) with the lowest estimates at 15 centimeters (6 inches) and the highest at 95 centimeters (37 inches). The rise will come from thermal expansion of the ocean and from melting glaciers and ice sheets. Twenty inches is no small amount -- it could have a big effect on coastal cities, especially during storms. "

Ia ma certain that hundreds of scientis, meteorologist and physisist who studied those thing are all stupid anf found there degrees in CrakerJack boxes. In fact , I think that you and I , who spend a few hours discussing those thing in the comfort of our house with only the internet ( wich I seem to be the only one who uses it to try to boost my arguments !) have a much better grasp than those people who spent yers with all there computers and researche to come to those conclusions.

I never said I was a champion , only someone who is doing it's best and is ready to make a few changes.

Well in that case I would insist that not only do you start using skate boards you all buy boats to prepare for the Waterworld that we will become in a few years due to the polar ice caps melting and turning the entire world into Kevin Costners "Waterworld." I think I 'll fit in good in that society I can be one of the smokers like Dennis Hoppers character.

But it is "false science" ! The laws of physics dont exist !;)

Ok you do your part and I'll continue to drive my 1978 Caddy gas guzzler, and chain smoking and using a lot of coal fired generated electricity with my big screen TV.:cool2:

Oh and I think I'm going to start raising cattle too.

Some people only use the easy solutions...even when they are not solutions !;)

You'd only be a hypocrite is you chastised other people for smoking but continued to smoke yourself.

I continue to smoke but I don't blow my smoke up towards the sky, to reduce global warming I blow my smoke at a downward angle.:thumbsup2

Here are some cute posters about science that I found funny. these comments are not directed at any one on this thread
