After spending Thursday evening having dinner and good conversation with DIS'ers, antkim and castlegazer, I went back downtown on Friday morning, again on the T (works great) to meet up with longtime DIS'er, Mare (MayAnnDVC), who took the train plus the T up from Rhode Island. We met up about 10:30, at the Boston Common, and set off on the guided Freedom Trail tour. It was great seeing so much American history, right where it occurred. We have very little history, if any, that old in Chicago. We had a wonderful day.

Our tour guide, all decked out in early American clothes. At times he made us think of the Jungle Cruise boat CM's, a few corny jokes along the way. He was good.

This historic cemetery was one of the most interesting parts of the tour, right there in the heart of Boston, so many names and stories from our nation's early days.

I asked Mare if she could see a hidden Mickey in this shape. She said no, LOL.

The balcony of the Old State House where the Declaration of Independence was first read, so very historic.

The guided tour over (took about 2 hours), we headed over to Faneuil Hall (his grave was in a picture above, died the day it opened) and Quincy Market. What a fun place, so much to see, so much food, yikes!! (No pictures here of that part). After having a relaxing lunch, lots of great conversation with Mare, we headed down to the waterfront, a ferry boat ride over to where the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides, is docked. Still an active ship in the Naval fleet, it was remarkable to see it, such a large part of our history.

I took a try at steering, though I think I will keep my day job.

A Navy destroyer, also docked there, very interesting to look at, imagining those who served.

Jack Nicholson (plus some other actor, Mare will know) were there making some movie. Jack came out of his trailer for a few minutes to satiate the groupies. I have no idea who the lady is.

After that, we headed back to the downtown on the ferry. Here, back by Quincy Market, a line of carriages ready for the early evening tours. It was about 6 PM now.

While we were walking, a lady who was walking nearby, asked if my camera was a Nikon 995. After confirming, she said that was also hers. I took the opportunity to take a picture of Mare and me without instructions how to work it, LOL. She gladly obliged.

The Old State House again, in the glint of the late afternoon sun. :sunny:

And, as we parted ways, I to head north, Mare to head south, both on different T's, we saw one of those famous Boston ducks chugging by.

Thanks so much, Mare, for such a thoroughly enjoyable and historic day in Boston. I appreciated your company and friendship. :goodvibes

As normal - you have posted wonderful photos. Thank you so much for sharing them.

Someday when my girls are older I want to travel the east coast and see all those historic sites.

Thanks again Dan and take care!!

Looks a nice day! :) I'm glad you enjoyed our historic city!

I'm embarassed to admit that although I grew up less than 20 miles from Boston, I have never "done" the entire Freedom Trail  but I've seen most of the sites at some time or other...some more often than others.

Thanks for sharing your great pics as usual :)

Dan, you certainly captured what I remember from Boston. I haven't been there is 16 years. Ironically, I'm going to dinner this week with a friend who lives out there whom I haven't seen in those 16 years. Your pictures brought back some fond memories of days gone by. Thanks.

Great pics! It appears you've seen more of Boston than I have and I've lived an hour north of there my whole life. We got lost on the Freedom Trail field trip in 8th grade, and aside from seeing that cemetary and the statue of General Hooker (got an interesting education that day :rotfl: ) we didn't see any of the other sites. Boston's a great city, when you're not driving in it. Thanks for sharing your pics!

Love the photos! Thanks so much for sharing. That's so cool that you saw Jack! Love the robe!

Dan, I love the pictures!!! Thanks so much for no "bathroom exit" and "up the nostrils" shot. :teeth:

Had a great time. Always nice to hang out in Boston with good company. :)

I told you Jack was wearing something under that robe! LOL I would have been in a picture with Jack, if I had managed to "get in there!" like Dan kept telling me, but those fans were pretty agressive!

The other actor that we heard was there was Matt Damon, but Dan wasn't too interested in hanging around to see if HE came out.

While waiting to board the ferry, I heard a man on his cell phone saying that Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio were there, but I thought he just mixed up Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon. :confused3 But when I got home, I checked online, and the movie they are making is "The Departed".
April 21 2005 - "The Departed" Begins Principal Photography

Principal photography has begun on “The Departed”, Leonardo DiCaprio's next movie. It revolves around two dueling policemen portrayed by Leonardo and Matt Damon. Leonardo plays an undercover agent infiltrating the local mafia. Matt plays a policeman and informant to the mafia who is trying to find out the identity of Leonardo's character. The mafia boss is being portrayed by Jack Nicholson. Also joining the cast are: Mark Wahlberg, Vera Farmiga, Anthony Anderson, Ray Winstone, David Conley, J. C. Mackenzie and Nellie Sciutto.
I had a great time, Dan. Thanks so much for getting together!

So much history even in a cemetary! That looked facinating. Your photos are as usual wonderful Dan. Thanks for sharing them.
It looks like you guys had a gorgeous day for your tour too! :teeth:

What great pics, Dan and Mare! What a fun day. I've never seen any of those places. Thanks for sharing.

"I asked Mare if she could see a hidden Mickey in this shape. She said no, LOL"

Is it at the top right?

I loved the pictures. My brother loves going to old cemetaries.

Holy Cow I was quickly scrolling through and I'm like - WOW Jack Nicholson is a DISer - lol! Funny story last summer in Boston my kids were standing on the site of the Boston Massacre with their Dad with their Yankees hats on - my Dad and I were across the street. The Duck Truck went by and all these people started booing. I turned to my Dad and said - they are booing the kids. He says no way. Sure enough the truck passes and my middle DS is hopping around yelling - They said we was gonna be the SECOND Boston Massacre!

Aww Dan, your photos are making me homesick! :(

Great pictures Dan. It is nice to see Boston through the eyes of a non native. WE take so much for granted. If you come again you MUST gotto Salem, Plimoth(Plymouth) and Lowell. Often I ask my husband as we are on our way to WDW why would anyone what to come to NE. When I see how you portrayed this area I guess I can understand it. Everytime I have gone on the Freedom Trail we get a boring park ranger dressed in a modern unifom.

As always ~ Fab piccies Dan.

Thanks for posting.
