Around 6:00 am Mike woke up and took a shower. I was laying in a bed with Lauren, who had slapped me in the face with her arm during the night and tossed and turned a lot, so I didn’t get a very good night’s sleep. I was also probably a little excited about being in WDW the next day. So when Mike got up at 6:00, I was too sleepy to get up with him. So while Mike got ready Alex, Lauren, and I continued to be lazy sacks of potatoes in our beds. Eventually, Mike came over to the bed and started to rudely wake me up. He is always the bad guy on the trips. He gets up first and then has the job of waking the rest of us up, trying to make sure we are out the door on time.
So after a little bit of me pretending that I wasn’t awake, I finally got my lazy behind out of bed. I got my clothes and the kids clothes out of our overnight bag and that’s when I noticed the kids were waking up. Mike was pretty much done getting ready so he got the kids something to eat and drink while I got in the shower. By the time I got out of the shower, the kids were dressed and fed (great job Honey!)
He even took some pictures:
We had only brought doughnuts in the room with us since we didn’t want to eat too much. We wanted to be good and hungry for Chef Mickey’s later that morning! Mike and I also had a doughnut. I had learned last year, that even though the hotel did have coffee in the lobby, it was really bad coffee. Mom wouldn’t even drink it. So we knew we would have to make a coffee stop before we left Gainesville.
The poor children waited patiently while I put on my makeup and fixed my hair. Lauren kept looking out the window and they both kept asking me if I was done yet. I guess they were excited to get back on the road so they could ask “Are we there yet?” a couple more times.
Finally, I was done and I packed up our stuff in the overnight bag. Mom showed up at our door and she and Mike went down to the parking lot to put the bags in the van. Once they came back up to the room, we all went downstairs and checked out. Mike grabbed a USA Today from the front desk, which we were very interested to see that they had a front page article about Dollywood’s 25th anniversary. We enjoyed reading about it that morning.
I decided I would drive since Mike had done most of the driving on Thursday. I quickly drove to the McDonald’s and ordered Mom and me coffees (Her a small, me a large. I need lots of coffee y’all).
The original schedule was to be on the interstate again by 7:30. We made it by 7:36. Not too bad. We had a pretty easy drive. We eventually got off on the turnpike. Seeing the turnpike and toll roads gets everyone in the van excited! They could charge $5 for the toll and I’d still be smiling! Eventually we turned off onto 429 and you could feel the excitement building! We knew we were getting close! Then we saw this sign:
Hallelujah! It’s time for Disney World!!! So here we are on Western Way and Mike takes a picture of the road sign at the intersection of Western Way and W. Buena Vista Dr.
You’re probably wondering why? On our trip last year our DD got sick one night and Mike had called down to the CBR desk to ask if there was any place that we could drive to for some soup (like a grocery store or something). The woman politely informed him of a Hess station but couldn’t think of anywhere else. Mike asked her if there was anything off of Western Way. She informed him there was no such road on or around Disney property. He started to explain to her where it was and she just chuckled and then nicely told him that there was no such road and concluded the phone conversation with “Have a magical day!” So now you know why he took the picture of the Western Way sign. Photo proof it exists.
As we turn onto World Dr. I start feeling the urge to drive faster.
It’s just so exciting to return to Disney. And then I see these signs:
And then we come to this:
We’re going into the MK!! I pull up to the booth and tell the man we’re going to check into the Poly and he tells us to enjoy our stay. Oh I will! As we turn off onto Seven Seas Dr. I start trying to see the Poly sign. I guess Mike was excited to see the TTC since he took a picture of it.
And then we see it! The Polynesian sign! Woohoo!!!!!
I looked at the van clock and it read 9:45 am. By this point I had heard “Are we there yet” 7 times. So between 2 days we heard it 17 times. As I pulled up I heard our first Aloha from the guard. After he checked my drivers license (I don’t remember them doing that last year but I don’t mind it), we drove into the parking lot. During the drive from Gainesville to WDW I realized that I forgot to put the swimsuits in the overnight bag. So I pulled into a parking spot and we went through all the suitcases to put the swimsuits in our overnight bag. With that finally done, I pulled up to the front of the resort where a nice man helped Mike unload the luggage (except for the overnight bag and some of the kids stuff). This was a wonderful change from the first time we were at the Poly. No one came up to the van to unload the luggage on our first visit and Mike eventually had to grab a cart and start putting our luggage on it. Eventually a CM saw him and all was well.
After saying goodbye to our luggage I pulled out of the overhang intending to turn back around and head into the parking lot. Instead, with my wonderful sense of direction, I headed out of the Polynesian lot.
I had to turn around and go back through the front gate (how embarrassing) and then finally, I parked the van in the parking lot.
As we walked to the front of the resort we stopped to look at the waterfalls and front doors.
And then we heard another “Aloha!” Love it!!! While Mike and Mom checked in, Alex Lauren and I looked around the lobby. For those of you that haven’t read my PTR, Alex LOVES waterfalls. He asks to take a picture in front of every waterfall and fountain. So he REALLY likes the Poly lobby. I don’t know how many times we walked around that center waterfall area of the lobby. I did notice it was taking Mike and Mom a little while to check in though.
