Hey guys. This is a question I never thought I would have to ask.

I have sold on ebay for 3 years. I always include a delivery confirmation to cover my behind. I have in my shipping descript that insurance is not required, but strongly suggested. I am not responsible for a package once it leaves my hands.

We for the first time in three years here is what has happened.

My buyer emailed me wanting to know where her package was. She said she knows that the 4th could delay it, but wanted to check with me to make sure it was not lost. I mailed the package out on the 3rd. Checked my delivery confirmation, and it says it was delivered to her city, state, and zip on 7/6 at 1:15pm.

What do I do? I cant resend it. It was shoes that my dd wore, and I dont have extra's to send. She did not purchase the optional shipping insurance. What is a person to do. If she files a complaint with paypal will she win? I have proof that it was mailed?

HELP

I would think as long as you have proof that it was mailed there is nothing she can do. Maybe something got held up at her post office and she will recieve it on Monday.

Did the delivery confirm, say it was delievered or that it arrived at her PO?

If it said it was delievered them send her the DC# and tell her that it shows it as being delivered and to make sure the post office didn't leave it somewhere or at the neighbors.

I would NOT refund her money, because it just may be that she is scamming you. I think at one point or another, every ebay seller gets a buyer who trys this. They get the item and either it is the wrong size or they change their mind and try the "I didn't get it" to get a refund.

How is the buyers feedback? I would not refund her money either but I would tell her you have a confimation that the items WERE delivered. Aske her to check with her neighbors, check her porch etc.....

Can you tell me where your auctions are on e-bay? I love the outfit your beautiful daughter is wearing!!!! Do you list her clothing?? Love it!!!!!

you got delivery confirmation (thats a good thing), if it states delivered that will be another good thing if you took a paypal payment for the item. If you shipped the item out within 7 days and DC says it was delivered then you would probably win a dispute, unless....they used a credit card and do a chargeback through their card company, then you will probably lose.

and an fyi to anyone who does not know it...stating in your auction that "insurance is optional and you will not be held responsible for uninsured items being lost or damaged" is a waste of typing time. as seller, you are considered responsible for getting the item to the buyer undamaged. does not matter if they insure it or not. so if its expensive (something you dont want to pay for out of pocket), include insurance in the shipping/handling cost. and to be covered under paypal seller protection, if the item is over $200? or $250 you must have signature confirm. on it. (after we had a problem, we went through and read a lot of fine print)

With your delivery confirmation you are safe - paypal will accept that as proof of delivery. Without proof of delivery you would be on the hook for a refund. You can put in your auctions that buyers are responsible for buying insurance and that you aren't responsible for the package once you mail it - but ebay and paypal believe the opposite - that the seller IS responsible for making sure that the package is delivered. Even with dc - if the po loses your package you have to refund your buyer.
Email your buyer and send her the dc numbers - hopefully she can track it down on her end - and hope she's reasonable - she might give you an undeserved neg.
Good luck!

I love your daughter's outfits too! :thumbsup2 Do you make them and sell them on ebay? I would love to have one for my DD Camryn! :lovestruc

Ask your customer to physically go to her post office and check if the package is there. I had a similar situation where the delivery confirmation was confirmed but buyer did not get item. The mail carrier attempted to deliver and marked as such. In reality the package was sitting at her post office for over 2 weeks...sort of lost in the system in limbo.

If that doesn't work, you technically are not responsible once the item has left your possession, you used delivery confirmation and the buyer did not purchase insurance. Good luck.

I've been selling on Ebay for almost 8 years and I've had this happen to me--once. I had sold, of ALL things, a bra that was new with tags that just didn't fit me. I had contacted the buyer the next day after payment, letting her know it was shipped. She never contacted me until THREE WEEKS after I had shipped letting me know she never received it.

I checked the Delivery Confirmation number and it was delivered 2 days after I had mailed it. I told her to check with her neighbors and that I could not be responsible for lost or misdirected mail. She checked and nobody claimed to have received it.

Back then, there was no thing as paypal protection, at least not heavily advertised. I apologized and told her there was nothing more I could do and I never heard back from her again.

Also fyi, in case you or others didn't know--if you use the shipping through Ebay/Paypal you get Free delivery confirmation on Priority packages and for other packages it's $.14 for delivery confirmation.

Thankfully, I've never had the problem with broken or lost mail without insurance---so not sure how that works with Paypal protection. I do know they can take the amount right back out of your Paypal account to pay the buyer back though.
