An Aussie's Journey. Our final meal before coming home (food porn)....the last post!

Those are so cute! I actually have the Mickey egg mold from the Disney Store Online. I want the pancake one, though :)

My parents aren't really into the Disney magic (well, not as much as I am), but I watch Disney movies and have music on my iPod and occasionally watch the fireworks or parades on YouTube. I maybe possibly also watch the Disney planning DVD sometimes... :rolleyes1

I almost bought that Mickey pancake mold! What a fun breakfast :thumbsup2

I was chuckling all through your last update, I like your sense of humor too ;)

I do what I can to help! Glad you enjoyed it! Not everyone appreciates my *sick* sense of humour....and I worry for you :lmao:
:lmao::lmao:
I LOVE it...but don't worry for me.
I already know I need help :rotfl2:

Now as to these latest photos....cruel cruel...

I DEMAND you come to Sydney and make me some Mickey pancakes!!! :worship:

Great updates!

The POR foodcourt looks and sounds great. I love CBR, but I found the quality of food at the foodcourt quite lacking.

Great post about the Cinco de Mayo meet. I am sorry too that I didn't get a shot with you! I was so busy getting up and down, going btwn the meet and the rest of my family eating at San Angel.

Your meal at Sunshine Seasons looks great. I have never tried it there before.

Too funny about your brother thinking that a group of 9 without an ADR could walk up to a WS restaurant at 6:30pm.:rotfl: I got a little taste of that myself on our trip.

Enjoying your report!:goodvibes

How does Jackfruit taste? I've never heard of it until I rode the Living Lands ride. It looked interesting. If it's anything like Dorian however...I'll pass.

:)

I will openly admit I have a Mickey Mouse Salt and Pepper shaker after this trip. I also have a Disney Cookbook and I've got a Mickey Mouse head ice cube tray. Oh yes!

I got Alice and wonderland Tea. I love tea so much! I'm trying to drink it really slow. Even though it's a lot I want to savor it.

I can't believe your DH wanted to go to Le Cellier at Six! Haha well I'm sure he was thinking Disney must be like other places the wait should only be about 30 minutes or so to eat. Haha! :scared1:

I love that pancake mold! I bought the Mickey toast press, and now Bella can't eat a sandwich that doesn't have Mickey imprinted on the bread. :rotfl: Next time maybe we will go for the pancakes.

We must have been getting to Epcot right about the same time...only I came on the bus from AK. It had just stopped raining when I got there. Surprised we didn't see you walking in!!!

It looks like you had a great trip up to this point. Can't wait to read about the rest!

I hope you used the potholders too ;) I do exactly this with the pancakes & the sunnyside up eggs, while whistling Zipadeedodah (if I'm awake enough to put in my partial plate/teeth in that is :rotfl:) otherwise I just hum it !

DH put the potholders on the kitchen wall! He's been really taken with them and wanted to display them for a while before we use them. So, he put some mounts on the wall and put the potholders up so people could admire them :thumbsup2.

I contemplated buying the egg moulds as well. Maybe next trip.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun and I think we will be using the pancake moulds a LOT in our house. :lovestruc

Feel free to come to Melbourne anytime for a sample. :rotfl: And the Mary Poppins season opens in Melbourne in June.

ps. I am a member of the RSPCA.

Thanks. I've been checking your TR as I suspect that we are going to be commiserating each other on the extended families :grouphug:.

DH is a Disney veteran and knows better than to try to get into an Epcot restaurant without an ADR. D BROTHER, on the other hand, has the natural tendencies of tumbleweed and just doesn't understand why people would book 6 months out into a restaurant. He's lucky he lives in Australia where we can pretty much walk into any restaurant we like without a booking. ;)

Jackfruit looks like Durian. You open it the same way. And the fruit is also attached inside the same way as the Durian. But it doesn't have the same smell (it has no smell), nor does the fruit have the texture of thick cream.

The Jackfruit fruit looks like a golden yellow prune. The fruit is smooth on the outside and is crunchier and firmer than the Durian when you bite into it. Worth trying if you get the chance.

I'll have to look out for Alice tea next time I'm at Disney. It sounds great! :yay:

I bought the Mickey toast press as well! I haven't tried it yet but after reading your post, I'm going to go and do so very shortly.

Sounds like Epcot was the park to go to that afternoon. Yes, it would have been nice to bump into you too.

Can't wait to read more. :goodvibes

Welcome to my TR and I hope you stop by again soon!

The extended family wanted to spend more time in Epcot today. My preference would have been to go to DHS; but given that we hadn’t spent a lot of time in World Showcase yet, we were happy to fall along with this plan.

We got there early and were close enough to walk to the gates.
P5080149.jpg

From experience, I knew we had 2 or 3 hours to kill before we would see the extended family.

So, we took some time to look at people’s faces on the Walls…..
USA2010Holiday324.jpg

Until we saw some other friends!

I always knew that there were aliens in Orlando and this proves it! Friendly little guy…kept wanting to tickle me.
USA2010Holiday322.jpg

And I know if I keep working at it, someday, I too can develop the perfect Daisy shape.
USA2010Holiday326.jpg

The boys were keen to go back to Soarin’ and Test Track. Stand-by time for Soarin’ was only 20 minutes; but we got on it in under 10 minutes.

DS can look at a board of shapes and pull out the appropriate ones to make Mickey Ears! I’ve done my job as a mum! :cool1:
USA2010Holiday329.jpg

Test Track was 10 minutes, so we took another spin around. Picked up some more fast passes – just in case.

We spent some time looking for butterflies…
USA2010Holiday336.jpg

Sometimes, I just love taking time out and smelling the roses!
USA2010Holiday335.jpg

And where there are butterflies, surely….fairies can’t be too far behind!
USA2010Holiday332.jpg

I have a boy…so this is as close as I’m going to get to fairies!
USA2010Holiday339.jpg

It was time for a morning snack. DS settled on a long time favourite.
P5080146.jpg

We decided on a raspberry slushie.
P5080147.jpg

YUM!

By this time it was close to 11 am and World Showcase was going to open. I convinced the boys to head to Norway and go on the Maelstrom.

DS went on the warpath – he didn’t get wet on Maelstrom, so he wasn’t happy!
USA2010Holiday330.jpg

But we soon found him a way to cool off.
USA2010Holiday331.jpg

For any parents reading this, I learnt today that if your child wants to get wet on a hot Epcot day, there is every benefit in letting them do so. They will be happy for a whole hour afterwards!

[Up next – The World Showcase]

And voila! :tink: A plateful of Disney magic at home.

P5280004.jpg

We've been like this :mickeyjum :mickeyjum :mickeyjum all morning.

princess::upsidedow

We keep the magic alive by going to Disneyland anytime we want to! Living 24 minutes away makes that possible. I have all the Disney utensils, but my pancakes always stick when I use my Mickey molds, how did yours come out so good? I even sprayed them with cooking spray before pouring in the batter. Must be Aussie batter is better than US batter!

Sounds like a lovely morning! :goodvibes

It was a great morning.

You are sooo lucky to be living so close to DL.

When we were in France 20 years ago, we met a really lovely French lady and she invited us to stay with her. We ended up staying for 3 nights and I learnt how to make pancakes, crepes and pikelets from her - the French way. She made them by consistency and feel; no measuring anything....and that just suited me just fine. Being born in South East Asia, I make curries based on texture, smell, looks and feel; so it was easy to pick up the batter tips from her.

However - just for you, Alison - my family got subjected to another batch of Mickey pancakes this morning so that I could do some measurements :rotfl2:.

Pancake batter

10 oz Self Raising Flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 - 1 tbs sugar
2 eggs
16 - 18 fl oz Milk
1/2 tsp canola oil
Butter or margarine

Making and Cooking the pancakes

Put the Flour, salt and sugar in a bowl and stir to mix. Make a well in the middle and break the eggs in the well. Add a bit of milk to the middle and gently start mixing, drawing the flour into the mixture (I use a fork to mix because I can "feel" better with this but you can use a whisk). As the batter reaches the consistency of whipping cream, start adding more milk and continue to mix. Keep adding milk and mixing until most/all the milk has been added. The batter should have the consistency of thick pouring cream. When you pull the fork out, the batter should stream down as a thick curtain but it shouldn't be too thick. Stop adding milk when you get to this consistency.
Add the canola oil and mix it in completely.

Put your frypan on low heat. It normally takes me about 2 - 3 pancakes to get the heat just right. Put the pancake mould into the middle of the pan. I don't spray the mould - I put a sliver of butter into the middle of the mould, which should spread out to the edges when you add the pancake mix. And I think having the drop of canola in the pancake mix helps. If you are worried about the butter burning and going brown, then brush some canola oil over the pan before you start cooking.

When the butter is melted, place about 1/2 a ladle of batter into the mould (dropped into the middle of the melted butter). I put enough batter for the batter to come to about 1/3 - 1/2 of the mould depth.

Gently tilt the pan so that the batter covers all the mould without gaps. Leave the batter to cook until the bubbles at the edge of the mickey ears are popped (normally takes about 1-2 minutes). This is where the right heat is important. If you have too high a heat, the pancake will burn at the bottom. If it is too low, the pancake will taste gluggy and heavy. When the bubbles at the edges are popped, remove the mould. So far, I haven't had anything stick.

Flip pancake over and cook on the other side for about 30 seconds or until golden brown. If the heat is right and you've left the first side to 'bubble', then the batter on the uncooked side should not fall off when you flip it over.

Continue cooking until all the batter is used up. I got about 20 pancakes this morning.

Enjoy!

I do the same thing as far as flipping them over BUT I use Aunt Jemima Complete...just add water :lmao:

When we were last at the World, DS was 5 years old. We used the Kidcot as the attraction for him, so that we could see the World Showcase.
He’s a little too old to fall for this old gag….and so, with still no sign of my extended family, we found a new game that turned out to be the BEST thing for us.
This is not a phone...it's a Kimmunicator.
USA2010Holiday345.jpg

Our Kim Possible mission was in France.

We went to Eastern Canada in 2007, where we had a thumping good time. Some things don't change.
USA2010Holiday340.jpg

DS couldn’t resist playing Peek-A-Boo with us.
USA2010Holiday342.jpg

The United Kingdom had the biggest calling card ever for the boys – LOTS of Beatles memorabilia. We spent a bit of time looking at the merchandise and mentally picked up things that we knew we were going to bring home with us. :rolleyes1

DS wasn’t happy about being made to take a photo with Sleeping Beauty..
USA2010Holiday347-1.jpg

So, I didn't bother trying for another one. This is the closest I was going to get to Cindy.
USA2010Holiday346-1.jpg

We finally got a call from the extended family at this stage as we agreed to meet at France.

The window cleaners were out when we got to France. Perhaps I should follow their example and get a couple of bottle of French Champagne to clean my windows too.
USA2010Holiday351.jpg

I think DH might actually swallow the French Champagne thing....

I guess Disney must be economizing as you would have thought that they could afford to buy a better ladder for the lads.

Naturally, you can’t watch the window cleaners without some sustenance and it was fortunate that we close enough to get one of these.

USA2010Holiday349-1.jpg

DS decided he needed something to help him cool down.

USA2010Holiday348-1.jpg

After we met up with the family, it was time to get on with our mission!
USA2010Holiday353.jpg

I just know that someday my prince will come ….
USA2010Holiday356.jpg

I just have to work out which prince (or beast) is the right one.
USA2010Holiday354.jpg

The kids all wanted to do another mission…in Japan
USA2010Holiday359.jpg

And it was most most illuminating!
USA2010Holiday364.jpg

It's really cool how the most innocuous static displays suddenly take on a life of their own with the Kimmunicators.

Missions over – the kids sadly returned the Kimmunicator.

DS loves Bakugan…almost as much as he loves Disney and Pokemon. So, as far as he was concerned, Japan was wonderful!
USA2010Holiday365.jpg

Me…I was getting hungry but I don’t think fishing is allowed here. In any case, I think I've had enough fish for now.
USA2010Holiday360.jpg

DH is vegetarian and so Tangerine Café was the ideal stopping spot for us.
P5080143.jpg

The salads were delicious. We had tabouleh, garden salad, couscous and lentils. Great as the salads and falalel were, for me, the pick of the dish were the hoummus and the olives. I knew from the DisBoard that the serve was huge and this was certainly enough for both DH and myself (yes, even with me being hungry).

DS had a kid’s meal.
P5080144.jpg

And baklava for dessert. Not the best I’ve ever eaten and there was far too much filo pastry for my liking.
P5080145.jpg

I didn’t see any spaghetti anywhere despite being in Italy. So, I ended up purchasing a book on How to Speak Italian - using hand gestures.

And I need to get the name of Lady’s hairdresser.
USA2010Holiday366.jpg

Snow White…like me…is still working out where her Prince is. Probably hunting in Germany somewhere!
USA2010Holiday368.jpg

By this stage, my cold was definitely getting the better of me and I needed to find somewhere to lie down.
DS found the perfect spot to take a nap; but I needed something more comfortable.
USA2010Holiday370.jpg

I headed back to POR and pretty much slept for the rest of the afternoon.

Here are pictures to show what the boys got up to without me.
DS found a game he wanted to play and did some stretching exercises. I think this is he idea of a perfect figure!
USA2010Holiday372.jpg

He also wanted to have a go at playing with the dominos. I'm glad I wasn't around for the clean-up.
USA2010Holiday376.jpg

I’m glad to see that they took in a cultural event.
USA2010Holiday379.jpg

By this stage, the heat and the crowds got to everyone – so they all agreed it was time to leave and grab an afternoon swim.

[Up next - the Best of Both Worlds]

I am just love love loving the flower statue photos. They must be even more beautiful in real life.

Sorry to hear you were feeling so unwell. Looks like the boys had fun without you.

The Kim Possible stuff looks cool.

Loved your latest updates, DH looked very French in that beret :) DS is very photogenic actually you all are & your sense of humor has me :lmao: but I really have to stop reading your thread when I'm hungry..I may ruin the keyboard drooling all over it :lmao: just so you know I "swiped" your Lady & Tramp Pic & am going to print it out for my dining room, it is L&T themed, so thanks in advance! Ruthie

Oh, I'm so sorry that you were feeling so bad that you had to return to the resort - rotten cold!

My kids haven't done any of the Kim Possible missions, I see on so many other TRs how much fun they are though. If I can talk the Grump into another trip we may have to give it a try :thumbsup2

Your report is absolutely wonderful!!!!, very funny, great sense of humor and loving the photos. Oh those pancakes are still making me hungry. I am really enjoying reading your report :goodvibes.

Sorry that you weren't well on the trip. I did end up in the emergency room on a drip after we arrived at WDW, I'm glad you stayed out of there, it added a very large unexpected expense to the trip.

The gardens are just so beautiful, you really went at a lovely time of year. We are going in Sept for the first time, we were there in April/May last time and just loved the gardens. Looking at your photos I hope we don't miss it too much...

My son will be so excited about the Bakugan at Japan, he loves it (although they are very expensive for what they are ... or is that just me :rotfl:) and Pokemon.... Oh I wonder when the love of Pokemon will end. I just showed my DS the photo of your DS infront of the Bakugan display and he said "Oh sick" :confused3 Weird the sayings they have these days :rotfl2: Oh Dear, I'm sounding old.

Thanks for sharing :goodvibes Im looking forward to reading more.

Great TR. Loving the photos. The Kim Possible mission and Test Track were the highlight of Epcot for DD.

If we go back to WDW next year, we will probably also stay at POR.

Looking forward to reading more and seeing more photos.
