An APRIL Adventure in Autism: 2008 (8/8) Time to Say Good-Bye....

What great pics! Love the grimmace ones. Daniel also has mouth issues, thank goodness for gum! He is more orally sensitive though and if food isn't "right" forget it. Thankfully he likes lots of different foods.

Simply love the photo of Tricia and Billy. DH got a shot of Daniel and I on the boat in Epcot with his arm around my shoulders, so precious.

The food issues are such a prevelant challenge... it's like having an eleven year-old who eats like a three year old!!

Awww! See! You should do a trip report just so we can see that picture!!

Kathy

Those pictures of Billy are priceless!! I'm so glad you decided to start posting face picture - I wouldn't have wanted to miss that! :thumbsup2

The pictures remind me of Alex drinking soda. Every once in a while he decides to try some (or in one case he drank some punch that he didn't know was carbonated). It usually ends with him opening his mouth and the soda dripping all down the front of him. :headache:

I know what you mean about the face pix... the reports just aren't the same without them!

I've never seen Billy try soda.... all he wants is water, which is so fortunate because when he spills its so easy to clean up!! (It's probably just as well they don't like the soda, because its so sugary!!)

Kathy

Okay... ONIONS... was it the taste, I'm wondering, or the texture? Or perhaps the smell?? Funny how every kid is different!

Kathy

It was the bite most onions seem to have....he'd get this super surprised look of OhMyGosh what is in my mouth?!?:goodvibes

My mouth was watering reading about your fish and chips. Time to eat methinks!

I love love love the gelato pics, what a riot! The brother sister pic...a framer!

Very impressive that you could even talk AR through cell phone pics. Between us we have 7 parents/IL's and I don't know that ANY of them could do it. We're still working on texting. It's DS12's job to teach them lol!

Phew - I missed a lot! Glad I'm all caught up!

I love MouseGears too! (Who doesn't)? I like it better than even WOD at Downtown Disney! On our October trip, I looked for those same car decals at MouseGears and they were missing a couple (I think Mommy and little girl). I did end up finding them at the Emporium at the MK of all places though! And they had plenty! Love them! :thumbsup2

Fish and Chips sounds lovely! The view is so pretty!

I like the American Adventure....ok....but I have one little gripe about it. We have so many beautiful places in America, and if you go to see the other movies (canada, china, france) they are all so beautiful - they really show off the beauty of their countries. The AA is all about war, death, sadness....I don't know...just my 2 cents! I still enjoy it, and I LOVE the last 5 minutes of it, where you do actually feel happy, but I just wish the Imagineers had put in a little bit more about the beautiful country we live in! :confused3

Oh my goodness....the gelato pictures are priceless! Love them!

The last picture you posted...sigh....so sweet!

Carry on....

I may make the brother-sister pic my new screensaver... right now it's a pic I took of Wishes.

Aunt Rae is still uncomfortable with her cell phone... she always holds it as if it's going to explode at any minute!! ;)

, so we followed our taste buds to….

...the right! Let’s travel to the U.K. and get us some yummy Fish & Chips!!

Good choice! :thumbsup2 I have yet to eat it, but hey that is one of things I LOVE about WDW...always something new to see and try!

Trivia Tidbit: This is a replica of the original Pont des Arts, a pedestrian bridge across the Seine, which was torn down and replaced in 1970.

I did not know that...thanks! Have to remember that to impress my family next time we stroll across that bridge!

Here is the website for a company that sells lots of great special needs stuff, not only to therapists, but to the general public:

www.abilitations.com

Just wanted to say that when Michael's sensory issues were very high, I had ordered some things from them too. So I ditto ;)

Margaret likes to chew on stuff too, I have a plastic cord for wooden beads that she walks around w/ in her mouth too.

Oh well whatever keeps them happy I say.

And speaking of weird food likes....as I so got a kick out of Billy and the gelato  when Michael was 5 he LOVED sucking on lemons.

Thanks, Sara! I can't help laughing everytime I see those pictures! :goodvibes And thanks for the tip on the Emporium... I will check it out and see if they still carry those decals, because I want them!!!

Billy's expression was so funny, wasn't it?? I'm surprised the pictures came out because I was shaking with laughing so hard!! :lmao:

I'm definitely going to make that last one my new screensaver.... :goodvibes

There is so much to see in World Showcase... every time we go I make new discoveries!!

Great updates!

I really enjoyed the American Adventure a lot when we were there, but we just barely missed the Acapella group. Sad. :guilty:

The pix of Billy are a total crack up! but the one with them hugging is just adorable! Those moments are few and far between.

You skipped my reply! Maybe 'cause it was at the end of the page...?

But here it is again:

Oh, that is precious! :rotfl:

You really should frame a picture of the "gelato face". Or perhaps the one of Billy sitting and waiting for Dad and Tricia--that one is SO cute. The smile on his face melts your heart! :lovestruc

Updating my TR today, so look out!

Sorry, Meggie! I did miss it!

Billy's smile melts my heart every day! :lovestruc

See if this makes up for it.... Ed (who rarely reads other reports) read yours last night! (He lurks.) You are one of the privileged few, I guess!! :snooty:

Huzzah!

Interestingly enough, my mom's name is Patricia (sort of like Tricia), and I have an uncle (not to mention a close friend) named Ed! Tis a small, small world.

And it's okay for missing my post; it was at the bottom of the page!

Trust me, I know what you're talking about!

I usually have something in my bag for Billy to eat... fortunately he has been making tremendous strides this year with accepting new foods!! :woohoo:

Some food he never ate before but will now eat: Hot Dog, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, PB&J Sandwich!!! Wow! Eating at WDW is going to be so much easier this year!!

Kathy

Funny...these are some of the foods that ARE on Sarah's list. We eat PB&J almost every day for lunch. She, too, is very oral, and always has something in her mouth. That was interesting about Billy needing to have his mouth full to feel like there was something in it...sounds like Sarah...wonder if that's the issue with it :confused3

Great updates, btw. Love the pics of the kids! Can't wait to hear more. Happy 4th of July everybody!!! pixiedust: (fireworks!!!)

Possibly. Billy is "undersensitized" in the mouth, that's why he stuffs it full...so he can feel it better. That's also why he chews on things so much and why he always wants to snack... thank heavens for gum!!

Tricia's full name is Patricia, she just likes "Tricia" better... just don't call her Patty or Pat! She doesn't like either of those!

Hoping to get the next post up tonight...
