An APRIL Adventure in Autism: 2008 (8/8) Time to Say Good-Bye....

Possibly. Billy is "undersensitized" in the mouth, that's why he stuffs it full...so he can feel it better. That's also why he chews on things so much and why he always wants to snack... thank heavens for gum!!

Kathy

Gum is good...Sarah walked up to me when she was 2 ys old, opened her mouth, and a bunch of push pins fell out of her mouth :scared1:

Yikes!

I still have to be careful with Billy...even at age eleven. He'll put coins, paper clips, even safety pins in his mouth if anyone leaves them laying around! :sad2: There's not quite as much danger of him choking now as there was when he was little, but I still worry all the time....

Sorry, folks! I've got the next chapter written up, but I'm a bit tired, so I'm heading for bed. I'll post tomorrow, for sure!

Night-Night!

Chapter 30: Our Epcot Evening Comes Full Circle

Still Thursday, 4/24/08

World Showcase

I left off with our clan finishing our dessert of gelato in the Plaza del Teatro, then strolling arm and arm together toward Germany. It was about 6:30 and the sun was just beginning to dip lower in the sky as we followed the signs to the Romantic Road.

Did you know that there was once a boat ride along the Rhine River planned for Germany? It was to be very similar to the ride in Mexico, showcasing the cultural heritage of Germany’s past and present. Next time you are in Germany, look for a stone building located alongside the Biergarten Restaurant... that’s where the ride would have been housed. I've read that it’s currently used as a rehearsal studio for performers.

Anyway, Germany may not have a boat ride, but as you know, it does have a really neat train set! We stopped for a look-see and the kids were fascinated...

I recall that we spent a lot of time here watching the trains and admiring the landscape set-up. We noticed there were a lot of pennies strewn about that landscape. It seeems that guests had made a game out of tossing them at the train and hoping they would land in one of the storage cars. I suppose it’s not unlike making a wish and tossing a coin into a fountain! So Tricia decided to give it a try.

Correct that… she decided to give it many tries!!

Got it!!

What’s next? How about a trip to China, minus the jet lag? ;) Lots of interesting flora here, especially these ch-ch-ch-chia (!) masks or planters or whatever they were!!

I really wanted to go inside and check out the art exhibits, if not the movie…can you believe that we’ve never seen the inside of this pavilion? But unfortunately, Billy was getting a bit antsy. No surprise, really. After a late night at the P&P Party, we had been go-go-going since mid-morning. I decided not push it.

So, Tricia had a bit of fun with the colorful puppets that were displayed at one of the kiosks while Billy enjoyed a little quiet time with his daddy...

Behind them, the sun was slowly sinking into the Lagoon. Like the day, our time in Epcot was slowly drawing to a close...

Strolling through Norway we marvelled at the grass and flowers growing on the rooftops....

We had one more stop to make before we wrapped things up completely. We wanted to pay a little visit to Mexico and take a ride with The Three Cabelleros….

We went inside the Mayan pyramid and walked straight past all the kiosks in the village plaza to the boat ride entrance. Gee, I hope that volcano doesn't get angry!

Sorry... no pix of Donald y Amigos. I decided to just sit back and enjoy the last ride of the day! No ear plugs necessary for the fiber optic fireworks!! Billy thought these were just right! :thumbsup2

Folks streamed into WS in anticipation of Illuminations, but all we anticipated was getting back to Old Key West and getting some rest! Well, I also anticipated getting a load of laundry done... But that would give the kids a chance for a little swimming before bedtime.

One last shot of the Fountain of Nations with Spaceship Earth in the background...

Goodnight, Epcot! The next day, Friday, would be the last full one we had at Disney before the long ride home...

Sounds like you guys had a lovely evening in WS. Just love that photo of Billy and Ed.

I kind of thought you guys would like that picture... ;) Ed loves his Billy-Boy!

Kathy

Oh my goodness - those sunset pics are beautiful, but the ones of Billy and his Daddy are precious!

Interesting little tidbit about Germany....that would be a nice little ride if they were to ever think about putting it in!

My kids love the train set! :goodvibes

Great update as always!

It would be nice, wouldn't it?
I'm glad that the Kim Possible Missions are in WS now... my kids are too old for KidCot stations and if there isn't a "ride" or a "show" in a pavilion, they're not interested!

All of you will love the Kim Possible Missions -- they are soooo interactive!

Love this update because it reminded me so much of the fun we have in World Showcase -- you will see a lot of similarities when I get to that part of the TR.

What a precious picture of Ed and Billy! :lovestruc

Thanks, Jackie! :goodvibes

I think I'm looking forward to doing Kim Possible even more than the kids are!

I never feel like we've had enough time in World Showcase... :hourglass

Don't anybody get worried because you can't see our countdown ticker... I think MickeyPath is just acting up again!! :headache:

A word of caution about Kim Possible. After you finish a mission, you have the ability to complete another one (there are seven missions altogether) -- it is one of the options on the phone. You may want to say beforehand to the kids exactly how many missions you want to do/will do -- otherwise it could get tense...:rolleyes1

What an endearing picture of Daddy and Billy! Love it!

I liked your "off into the sunset" pix, too! A poetic end to a very nice day.

I think my favorite thing in all of Germany is the train set. I could stand and watch for hours. I also like to hit the clock shop on the hour. :)

Nice update!

Thanks Laura! Thanks, Liesa!

Just when I talk myself into spending more time at the resort relaxing, I start to think about all the things I want to see and do in the parks and I think, "I just can't not go to the parks for an entire day!!"
