An Animal Kingdom Villas Mathematics Word Problem

My family and I would like to have dinner at Citricos. We will be leaving Animal Kingdom at 5pm and returning to AKV to freshen up and change for dinner. To get to the Grand Floridian using Disney transportation, we could either take the bus to Epcot, travel the monorail to TTC, and hop on the resort monorail or take the bus to Magic Kingdom and catch the resort monorail. Given our resort return and travel, what is the earliest possible advanced dining reservation?

At best, I would say 7 pm. Travel time to AKL from AK (10 -15 min including waiting for bus), freshen up (another 15-20 min depending on the person), travel time to GF, almost an hour. I would plan on a bus to MK and either take the boat or the monorail to GF. I find the ride to Epcot further away than MK from AKV. You could also take the dedicated DTD bus and then hop on one direct to GF.
But the probable fastest way is to leave AK a little earlier, fresh up and return to AK from AKL and take a bus directly to GF from the park. If an earlier dining time is important, that's an option. If not, I'd count on a 7 pm -ish ressie.

One time I was staying at Kidani and was meeting friends for dinner at Fort Wilderness. I did bus to MK and boat to Fort. It took 1 hour, 15 min. I was about 15 min late, they were already eating. Bus took a long time to come and I just missed the boat.

I did that from Kidani for a reservation at Boardwalk (what barbydoll suggested). EXCEPT.......the bus from AK to BWV first stopped at Blizzard Beach....and THEN stopped at three different bus stops at Corondo Springs and then got to BW (if it stopped at Swan and Dolphin I was going to scream).

A taxi would save some time and aggravation. Or Uber. There has been a lot of discussion about Uber on the Transportation board. I am a dinosaur and don't really know what Uber is....but I guess it is people with their personal vehicles that do services like taxi's? Not sure how that is legal and all that....nor if they are trustworthy.

Yummmm, Citrico's. We were once treated to a lovely free breakfast when we got a special invite to preview the Grand Floridian DVC. It is a lovely restaurant. Enjoy.

I'd say 8 pm would be the earliest. at bus stop at 5 pm, 30 min to wait on bus and travel, 1 hr to get ready, 15 min travel time to and from room, 45 min waiting and travel on bus to MK, 20 min monorail to GF, 10 min to Citrico's, 15 min leeway. I'd use a taxi.

We have waited for a bus at AK to AKL for 30 minutes several times June 2015. Figure 1.5 hours to get to GF from AKL. I would figure 3 hrs total from time you leave AK.

Can you see Fireworks from Citricos? I would go for a 8:30 pm reservation.

For me it would be more like 9pm as it takes me at least an hour to freshen up.

For an earlier ADR I would take a taxi and book for 7:30pm

Thank you, everyone, for your thoughtful replies. Initially, I thought it would be nice to dine at Citricos before returning home from Food & Wine. However, even with a taxi, I fear that dinner would be late and more time spent on preparing to go out and travel than enjoying the dining experience.

Right now, I think it would be easiest to book a casual dining location and travel to the resort directly from Animal Kingdom.

If you're going to another resort anyway I'd encourage you to reconsider Citrico's or possibly Narcoossee's (see light parade and fireworks if late enough). You could even pack a small bag and use the pool shower at the destination resort if desired. Lot's of good options.

I had assumed that our casual theme park clothes would not be fitting for a signature dining location, particularly at the Grand Floridian. We had planned on returning to our room so that we could dress up for dinner. Would flat-front shorts and a pique polo be okay?

You're on vacation but you don't want to feel out of place. I think your shorts and a polo would be fine. We always have a car and we'd be more comfortable cleaning up first but as compared to going through the ordeal of Disney transportation for this situation, we'd either skip it, dress accordingly and just go or plan to shower there. In this exact situation we'd shower there. Remember there's a chance you'll have to taxi back anyway depending on how late you are and how late MK is open that night.

We'd do this in your situation if we were set against a taxi. Pack a small duffle with the intent of a shower and change. Travel slacks, nice polo, clean socks, change of shoes, toiletries. Get a locker outside the main gate at AK ($10 plus deposit), they're 17.5*12*16 so you can plan your bag. allow 2 hrs between arriving bus stop and reservation. On arrival at GF go to showers in restrooms nearest the beach pool I believe. Explore the resort or sit in lobby enjoying music as you'll likely have extra time. This plan saves you roughly an hour, possibly more, and reduces your potential stress dramatically or at least it would mine. If you've never been to a signature, another option is Jiko's which would be much easier. Personally I like Jiko's the least of all of them but it's because I like the others, not dislike Jiko. If you're on the DP I'd absolutely do Narcoossee's first option, I likely would anyway as I like it best of all of them and you can see the light parade and fireworks.

Why not book Jiko, lovely restaurant probably as good as Citricos,

I was just going to suggest Jiko. It's a signature and wonderful. Actually all the dining options at AKL are really awesome.
