As the sun slowly made its way above the eastern horizon, few things in the desert were stirring. The golden rays gently lit the feathery clouds casting purple and orange shadows across the sky. At the foot of the mountain stood a lone man, he eyes heavenward as he watched another majestic day unfold. The air had a cool nip to it as the gentle breeze ruffled the mans shirt. It would be another hot day in the Arizona desert but right now it was perfect. Well, as perfect as it could be considering the task he had ahead of him. As he stood there replaying the events of the past 24 hours he could still not completely comprehend what had happened nor could he fully fathom what would lie ahead.
Last evening as the sun was dancing towards the west mesa, Arizona Jeff had been intently digging looking for artifacts that would prove the ancient Mayan culture had collected pins even before the time that Christopher Columbus had reached the new world. In fact, if his theory were true, he hoped to uncover a thatch pin book with the elusive Columbus Day first edition pin still with its tree bark card attached. Arizona Jeff was racing against time as the sun would soon be down and he would have to wait until morning to resume his search. Just then, his shovel hit something hard and sparks flew. The sparks were from metal on metal meaning Jeff had found something that was not natural from this area. He threw the shovel aside and using his trusty adventurers knife and his hands; he dug around the metal object until he had uncovered what appeared to be a small box. He lifted the box from its earthly home and brought it near his camp site. The box was roughly a foot square and about 9 inches deep. The box appeared to be sealed from the elements and the workmanship of it was exquisite. He brought his find into camp and searched for his oil-burning lamp. Once lit, the camp site had an eerie glow about it as if from another world. From his backpack, Arizona Jeff removed a small package and unrolled it onto the ground. Within it were small tools and instruments. He grabbed two small tools that looked more like they belonged in a dentists office than they did at an archeological dig and he began to work on the box. The minutes stretched to hours as Jeff worked on the box carefully cleaning and trying to open this treasure. Suddenly, a loud click was heard and the lid to the box sprung open. The noise and sudden movement startled Jeff causing him to lose his balance and fall backwards over a stack of Arizona Diamondbacks game programs. He gathered himself off the ground and dusted himself off as he approached the now open container. He gently lifted the lid and peered inside.
