An ADR for 9, but actually two separate families...

How do the TS restaurants deal with a split check when the group is 6+ sitting together, but really is one family of 4 and one family of 5? When I made the ADRs I made them for a group of 9 and they said gratuity will be added for parties of 6+. I did not want two separate ADRs because we are traveling together and want to sit together, but want separate checks (we will probably do the DDP, so yet another need for two separate checks). Anyone run into this situation?

Yes - we once travelled in a group of 19 and although we didn't dine together all the time, we did have several TS meals together. The CM's happily split the check for us. :thumbsup2 We just requested that when ordering and we had no problems at all. :)

We get separate checks when dining with friends. If you are seated as a PARTY of more than 6, then you will have the tip added on to your bill. So ask for separate checks and each check will have the tip added on. Separating your checks will not stop the automatic tip from being added. Tell your server at the beginning that you need separate checks, it will help in the record keeping for them.

When they seat us as a party of nine but separate the checks we will be paying the tip on four people, for instance - correct? The other family will be paying the tip on only five people...am I correct? I just happen to see a thread (and granted I don't know how many were seated together, but it was at 50s PTC and I know they don't have THAT big of tables. One person was expected to pay almost $30.00 and the other almost $25.00. At 50s, that would have been a heck of a bill!

They will ask you who is on your check and who is on the other check. Just make sure you get the right check, as we have been handed the wrong one often. The tip will be 18% of the bill, so you both should have the right percentage.

An 18% gratuity is automatically added for dining parties of 6 or more. So if you are a party of 4 dining with a party of 5 you can have seperate tickets when you pay but each ticket will have an 18% gratuitiy automatically added because of the overall dining party size. We have done this when dining with the ILs and we've been on the DDP and they weren't. We let the server know when we sit down and start placing drink orders that we'll be on seperate tickets and we've never had it be an issue or problem. HTH

Your party of nine will have ONE server. So even though you are paying for four and then for five, you will each have the 18% gratuity added on to your bills. For example, if the party of four's food was $80, the tip would be added at $14.40 so that bill would be $94.40. If the of five's food was $100, the tip would be added at $18 so that bill would be $118. It would be exact the same as if one person paid for all nine, the food was $180, the tip was $32.40 and the bill was $212.40

There is a tipping sticky at the beginning of this forum where you can get more answers to your tipping questions.
