AmyT's Journal (Comments Definitely Welcome!)

I did great yesterday! :thumbsup2 I resisted the urge to not go to the gym, and I didn't snack when I got back (even though I really wanted to). And look at me go - I actually went to the 7am On the Ball class this morning! :woohoo: I really liked it except that Bosu Ball is TOUGH! I need to keep going - I thought I had good balance, but I was humbled in that class (at least I wasn't the only wobbly one!)... After the class I did 30 minutes on the elliptical. So it's just after 9am and I have already done 90 minutes of exercise! :cheer2: Now, I just need to keep my eating in check so I can see some great results... :rolleyes1

I had to cancel my fitness assessment this afternoon because my SIL called and wants us to come over for enchiladas. She is 1/2 Hispanic (so is DH), and her husband is 100%, so she makes some awesome Mexican food! I will have to behave somehow... :rolleyes: Yesterday I drank 100oz of water; 2 cups green tea; 16oz NoCarb Blueberry Green Tea; and a DC:

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal :lovestruc
9:00am: FF Cottage Cheese; Flax Seed Wafers
11:45am: Leftover Meatloaf; Broccoli; Quaker Multigrain Minis (9)
3:00pm: Egg Whites (2); Babybel Light; Apple
7:00pm: EFL Chili Relleno Casserole; Zucchini; Quaker Minis (finally gone); EFL Vanilla Mousse
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Lower Body Weight & Abs (30min); Treadmill (30min)
RESISTED: Boss's Candy Dish :banana: ; the other portion of mousse :blush:

Kate, you were right - I am glad I went to work out. And I had to stop in Walgreens to get some salsa (it's right next to the gym) and they had a HUGE bin of Hershey Smores and Caramel bars - 5/$1. I actually had 5 in my hand and put them back! :yay:

Jane, you will get through the parties and STILL be in the 140's! Just kick up your workouts and you can indulge (a little!) :smokin:

I just got back from the gym. I am changing the name of the class I went to from TBC (Total Body Conditioning) to TBK (Total Butt Kicking). And to top it all off, after 60 minutes of TBK, I was brave enough (stupid enough? :confused3 ) to stay for the 30 minute Buns-n-Abs class. OMG, I was lucky I could drive myself home. I am going to be one hurtin' unit tomorrow! :rolleyes2

I did really good at my SIL's yesterday. I ate 1 (yes, one!) chip with dip and NO chips with homemade salsa. Woohoo! And I ate very little for dinner (and of course got the "That's all you're going to eat?" question from both MIL and SIL). But I did indulge in dessert... I drank 80oz water, 10oz iced tea, a DC and a Peach Fresca:

9:00am: Egg Beaters w/Cheese; All-Bran Yogurt Bites w/Skim Milk
11:00am: Kashi Crunch; FF Yogurt
1:00pm: Turkey-n-Provolone on Wheat; Zucchini
3:30pm: 2 stalks Celery w/PB; 1/2 serving of Vanilla Mousse
6:00pm: 1 Enchilada; Spanish Rice (not even 1/4c); Macaroni Salad (maybe 1/2c)
8:00pm: Carrot Cake; Tea of Tranquility Ice Cream (DH doesn't like carrot cake so we stopped at Baskin Robbins and I couldn't resist!)
WORKOUT: On the Ball Class (60min); Elliptical (30min)
RESISTED: Chips-n-Salsa; More Enchiladas, Rice, Mac Salad; Cone for Ice cream

You're making me hungry just reading your post!! Homemade salsa, enchiladas - whew! Sounds good!

Congrats on the workouts!!! :woohoo: 90 minutes of exercising before 9am is awesome! Is the Bosu ball the little half ball that you stand on for balance? With all of this exercise I bet you start noticing a big change in how your clothes fit. Your workouts are upping the ante! I'm going to have to get kicking!

you're amazing!
i'm hurting just reading about it!!

keep up the good work!!!

Hi amy,

Congrats on the workout.....I was hurting just reading it!! Way to go on your eating at you SIL!!!! You are better than me!!! I love chips and salsa....that has to be one of my favorites when it comes to Mexican food!!!!!

Keep up the awesome work!

I am a little sore today, but not as bad as I thought I would be. I plan on going to the gym today for a quick run (no weights). I have to get DS ready for his baseball game, so I can't stay for a full workout (my body probably needs a little break anyway!)

Yesterday was pretty good foodwise. I am still having really bad water retention issues. On Friday my jeans were busting at the seams and there is no relief in sight. I was going to take a water pill this morning, but it is still sitting on the counter at home... :confused3 I am waiting for the big whoosh but it has been over a week and still nothing! I am still chalking it up to whacked out hormones, but it's getting old... Yesterday I drank 100oz of water; 12oz FF Chai and a Peach Fresca:

7:30am: Egg beaters w/Cheese; All-Bran Yogurt Bites w/Skim Milk
10:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt
1:00pm: Turkey-n-Provolone on Wheat; Cheez-Its (1 serving); Vanilla Mousse (1/2 portion)
5:00pm: 24 pretzel sticks w/LF Laughing Cow wedge
7:15pm: Lemon Pepper Tilapia; Cauliflower
9:30pm: Root Beer Float Bar (90cal)
WORKOUT: TBK (60min); Buns-n-Abs (30min)
RESISTED: I can't think of any major cravings! :cool1:

Jane, that is exactly what the Bosu ball is. It's tough! I am just hoping that all this working out will pay off. I am REALLY unhappy with all the flabbiness around my midsection. I don't know if it is because I am getting older or what, but it stinks!

Marie, I liked the classes even though they were super tough. It's something new and keeps it interesting!

Jamie, if I eat 1 chip-n-salsa, I am done for because I can't stop. I have gotten pretty good at not even starting. But then of course I eat too much of something else, like dessert... :rolleyes1

Wow Amy, your exercise habits are something to aspire to, I am impressed! Also, you eat a lot of really healthy food. I need to get some of your good habits in place. The day I pass up chips with homemade salsa is the day I will probably also win the lottery! Although in thinking about it, I am more likely to eat none as opposed to one, since if I have any, it just opens the floodgates!

WOW!

Sounds like you are on FIRE after recovery!

VERY AWESOME!!

HOpe you have a great week!

BBall is almost over....just keep telling yourself that!

Isn't the Laughing Cow good with pretzels? One of my favorite snacks - almost as good as chips and homemade salsa. Another 90 minute workout! Your strengthening those muscles, increasing your metabolism and shrinking whatever flab cells you have left!

Hang in there, it will go away! My jeans are busting at the seams everyday, and I wish i could blame it on water retention!! no luck!! Remember, you had surgery and your body needs time to get back to "normal". Water retention, hormones, life.....don't let it get to you, everything will come "whoosing" off in no time!! btw- you're workouts are killing me!! i can't even read them without feeling guilty.....sore, and guilty!!

keep up the great work amy!!

marie

Good Morning!!!!

Wow....another great workout!!! keep it up! You will start to feel better soon....just give it some time!

Keep up the great work!

We won another Little League game (11-1)!!! Now we are 4-1 (and the game we lost was the one we forfeited because of the schedule change). And I know winning isn’t everything, but I am happy for DS - he has been on losing teams for so long… And of course I am happy for DH, since he is the coach! Today I get a much needed rest from working out – my calves are killing me! Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, a Peach Fresca and a DC:

6:20am: Chocolate Oatmeal
9:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; Cantaloupe
11:45am: Turkey-n-Provolone on Wheat; Cauliflower
2:30pm: Egg Whites (3); LF Babybel; Apple
6:00pm: Almonds (1.2oz); Balance Bar (@game)
8:30pm: EFL Chocolate Mousse; FF Yogurt; Graham Cracker (1)
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Treadmill (35min)
RESISTED: Candy Dish at work! :cheer2:

Amy, glad to see you back! I hear ya on the floodgates, which is why avoidance works better for me! :teeth:

Julie, there are still 6 weeks left of baseball, but it will go by fast - it always does!

Jane, I really like the Laughing Cow and pretzels. It's a great combo! I hope something starts shrinking soon - if not, I am cutting my workouts back to 3x per week!

Marie, that is so funny! :rotfl: You are right - I need to be more patient. Just because I feel 100% recovered doesn't mean my insides are all the way healed yet...

Jamie, thanks! I am determined to work out super hard to get in tip top swimsuit shape!

Congrats on the baseball game! Its tough when they're young and lose. Ds first year of basketball they lose every single game. We loved the coach, the team & the game but it was much better the next year when his team was winning! Hang in there with the weightloss, Amy! It won't be long. Your poor body probably doesn't know what hit it! Give yourself some R&R time.

Congrats to DS & DH on the wins....that's great!!

I just have one question for you.....how do you manage to get in 100 oz of water?? I mean, my gosh that's alot!! I'm trying to get to that point, but i'm only managing about 60 - 70 oz, and then i'm in the bathroom every 10 minutes!! :blush:
please teach me o' water goddess....show me the way!!

Official weekly weigh-in was 138. I am going to go into a rant now, so if you don’t want to hear it, skip to the next paragraph - I HATE MY BODY!!!!!!!!! :furious: I have been working my butt off at the gym for MONTHS and I feel like I have nothing to show for it. I know I am healthier, but I don’t LOOK better. :guilty: I have never had this blubber around my midsection before. I HATE IT!!!!!!! :furious: :furious: I don’t know if it is because of the surgery or because I am getting older, or what, all I know is that I am extremely unhappy right now. :sad: If we left for Mexico this weekend, I would not even get in a swimsuit (and most certainly not a bikini). My pants don’t fit and I am just disgusted with myself. It’s not even the weight – I’ve already got it in my head that weight doesn’t matter as much as body composition. I just hate the way I look right now and I don’t know what to do to change it. :confused3 I feel like I am doing everything I can do. There is no possible way to work out more, so I must have a problem with my eating. :confused:

OK, I feel a little better, but I am still so bummed… I was almost bad yesterday at lunch! I was really wanting a caramel or Tootsie Roll, so I went into my boss’s office and the candy jar was gone! He is moving into a new office and it was packed away. I guess that was my hint that I don’t need candy! Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, and a DC:

6:20am: Chocolate Oatmeal
8:45am: FF Cottage Cheese; Cantaloupe
11:45am: Leftover Chili Relleno Casserole (much better as a leftover); Cauliflower; 3 Pretzel Rods
3:00pm: Egg Whites (3); LF Babybel; Apple
6:45pm: Pork Roast; Red Potato; Carrots; EFL Chocolate Mousse
8:30pm: Graham Cracker (1); Honeycombs (3/4c)
WORKOUT: Walking (40min)
RESISTED: Unpacking all my boss’s boxes to find his candy dish (he wasn’t at work) :rotfl:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, it's not the weight that is bothering me right now (for a change!), it's the flabby, blubbery mess that used to be my stomach/hips/butt. I'm sure I'll get over it, I just snapped this morning...
Marie, it took a while to get into the 100oz mode, but it's easy now that I'm used to it! I drink 20oz in the a.m. before I leave for work, then 20oz when I get to work (it's gone by 9am), then 20oz after lunch (gone by 1pm), then another 20oz before I leave (at 3:30). And if I work out, I drink 20oz at the gym. If I don't work out I drink 20oz at home (before dinner). I make sure not to drink any after 7pm or I will wake up during the night and have to go...
:grouphug:
Hang in there girl.....I know you're frustrated, but you are doing so great! I know you've been working out religously and I hope you keep doing it. Don't get down on yourself....you are doing everything right. The abs workouts you are doing will take time. to show a change....have you taken your measurements? I bet you will see a difference there.....like I keep telling myself, I didn't get these rolls overnight, and they're not going to go away overnight either. Persistance pays off. I"m sorry you're mad at your body...but i'm sure your husband still loves it!! :goodvibes
wanna come over to my house and work out some frustrations? I still have 4 rooms of carpet to tear out....it's good therapy. :thumbsup2
marie
Hang in there Amy! You eat very well, I can't imagine food is the problem. Probably you do look much better after your hard work, but your critical eye won't let you see it! I was dissing on myself last night and a friend told me, "if you were as mean to me as you are to you, I wouldn't love you nearly as much!". She's right, I am way too hard on myself and you are too! Keep up your great work and be proud of yourself, you deserve to be!
Amy
P.S. Buckey is a great name for a Beagle!
P.S.S. I love the image of your boss walking in on you pillaging his boxes looking for the candy jar! :rotfl2: Good for you resisting the candy urge.
Amy, I'm so sorry that you're going thru this now. :sad2: You definately don't deserve it. You work hard, eat right & drink more water than anyone I know. You're also Queen of Resistance! I could never resist that many Tootsie Rolls. Your boss would go broke keeping me in sugar. One week with me and he'd never have a candy dish again.
If your sick of BFL for Women why not try the Beer diet? :drinking1
FACT: The average diet recommends a daily caloric intake of 1,200 calories for women, 1,500 for men, if you want to lose the medically safe two to three pounds a week. On the "Beer-Me" diet, that equates to at least 12 beverages a day for women, and 15 for men. A measurable goal.
FACT: The alcohol in beer is a diuretic, which causes the water to flush out almost immediately, leading to a consistent workout regimen including deep knee bends (getting out of the chair), fast walking (getting to the bathroom) and squats (as the case may be).
FACT: Beer is cheaper than Jenny Craig.
CAUTION: This is a weekend diet plan, and should be attempted during the work week by only the staunchest of dieters.
Thanks so much guys! :grouphug: I really needed that. I was having a tough time yesterday, you all made me feel so much better! :thumbsup2
OK, in my ticked off mood yesterday, I input all the stuff I ate on FitDay (minus the “unplanned” garlic bread and Cheez-Its, which came out to about 150 calories). It was 1226 calories! So I’m not eating too much. :confused3 I talked to my friend who had a total hysterectomy in Jan and asked if she had any problems with bloating/swelling. I only had laproscopic surgery (through the belly button), hers was the full cut-em-up variety. She said her bloating just went away about 3 weeks ago and she said it started going away earlier, but once she started walking (for exercise) the bloating came back. She stopped for about 10 days and just started back up and hasn’t had a problem since. She told me to stop working out for a week to see if that helps and that this is probably my body’s way of telling me it’s not fully healed yet. And I looked back at my journals, and guess what? I gained 2lbs (overnight) 2 days after I started working out post-surgery… My mom also talked to someone who had my same procedure and she said the boating can take up to 10 weeks to go away! So I just have to be patient (which is not my strong suit!) :rolleyes:
So instead of listening to my friend, in my stubbornness, I went and worked out anyway. And I injured my shoulder! :headache: I mean, it really hurts (putting the car in Drive/Park about killed me this morning). So now I have no choice but to take it easy until this heals. :sad2: I plan on skipping the gym today, and tomorrow I will do lower body/abs and cardio. And I will probably take the weekend off (the gym is closed on Easter anyway). So, kind of a compromise I guess… Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, a Peach Fresca and a DC:
6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
9:00am: FF Cottage Cheese (1/2c); Cantaloupe (1c)
11:45am: Leftover Pork Roast (4oz); Red Potato (1/2 medium); Carrots (6 mini)
2:30pm: Egg Whites (2); LF Babybel; Apple
5:00pm: 15 Cheez-Its
6:30pm: Tilapia (3oz); Wheat Noodles (1/2c); Garlic Bread (1/2 piece); Green Beans; SF Pudding
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Weights (30min); Elliptical (35min)
RESISTED: Post-dinner snacking; More Cheez-Its
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marie, you are right! DH loves me just the way I am and thinks I am insane the way I obsess about my body. :crazy: He's probably right... I did take measurements a couple weeks ago. I can guarantee they are bigger now because of the bloat. But that will go away, I just have to stop worrying about it! ::yes::

Amy, that is so true! I wouldn't have any friends at all if I treated them the way I treat myself. Thanks for putting it into a different perspective for me! :goodvibes

Jane, I love that diet! :laughing: Except I don't drink beer, so I'd have to substitute margaritas or martinis... Your comment about the candy dish had me laughing out loud. Unfortunately, my boss wouldn't get the hint - I think it is more for him than any visitors... :teeth:

Amy, I'm glad that you're getting this figured out. Your lucky that your friend knows what you are going through. Its great that she's been through it and helping you with this too. Please be careful and don't overdo it!

At least you injured your shoulder working out - Thats much more respectable than injuring it while reading like I did! I'm afraid that if I'd go to the doctor they'd kick me out.
