AmyT's Journal (Comments Definitely Welcome!)

Yesterday was a total free-for-all since I knew I'd be back on BFL starting today... I'm not even going to write all the junk I ate. :rolleyes1 Today I have not strayed once (so far) and I will definitely be using the Mind-Mouth-Muscle journals from the BFLW book to stay on track. As long as I am in shape and healthy, I am happy. On the cruise, there were women who were much thinner than me, but there were also some that were much heavier. That will always be the case and I am OK with that. So I will do my best, follow the healthy BFL way of eating, continue working out and see what happens! I'll start journalling my food again starting tomorrow (so I can have all of today's totals). I also need to put together some kind of trip report. I'll have all kinds of time on Wednesday before surgery. I have to fast after midnight on Tuesday and my surgery is not until 1:30pm on Wednesday. What kind of sick joke is that?!?!? I'm gonna be STARVING!!!!!!! I can't even have water...

Hang in there Amy....the surgery will be over before you know it!!
Good job on staying on course today!! Keep up the good work!
I'm glad you had a good trip!! Vacations are not for dieting!! And as commited as you are, you will lose it in no time!!

later!

I bet you can't wait until that surgery is over. I hope that tomorrow & Wednesday go by quickly for you. Sending some pixie dust your way. :wizard:

Welcome back Amy!! :sunny:

Can't wait to hear details about your trip.

Good luck and prayers for your surgery. Hope everything goes well for you!

Day 1 of BFLW went well. I am having some gym drama though. The gym I currently go to is just OK, but a great price ($199/yr with the corporate discount). There is a REALLY nice gym closer to my house (by 2 miles), but the price is not-so-nice ($29/month). So a co-worker (who also goes to my current gym) and I went down there at lunch (I skipped my walk) to try to convince the nicer gym to give us a corporate discount. They didn’t cut us a deal on the spot, but are supposed to be getting in touch with our corporate discount person (who we called so she is aware of the situation). In the meantime, my gym membership has expired and I don’t want to renew it until I know if the new place will be giving a corporate discount. So this week I wasn’t going to go to the gym anyway (because of surgery), and next week I might try out the new place with a 5 day pass, then hopefully by then they will have the discount nonsense figured out. Am I crazy or what?!? DH says a gym is a gym is a gym and I should just stick to the old one (which he goes to as well, but we don’t work out together or even go on the same days). What would you do? Yesterday I drank 100oz of water; 2 cups green tea; about 16oz of iced green tea; a DC:

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
9:30am: FF Cottage Cheese (1/2c); Flax Wafers (5)
12:00pm: Turkey Medallions w/Mustard on Wheat (1/2 sandwich); Carrots (10 mini)
3:00pm: Egg Whites (4); Apple; Almonds (1.2oz)
6:30pm: Chicken (4oz); Broccoli; Rice-A-Roni (1/2c); LF Lemon GS Cookies (3)
8:30pm: FF Yogurt; LF Lemon GS Cookies (2)
WORKOUT: None :guilty:
RESISTED: Pringles

Marie, thanks! I have already lost 3 of the 8 cruise pounds, so that is nice! I am confident I will have a speedy recovery. I am bummed though because we just got DS's baseball schedule and his first game is tomorrow and I don't think I'll be able to go. :sad2: Oh well, there are 16 more games I should be able to attend...

Jane, thanks. I know the benefits of the surgery will more than outweigh the couple days of discomfort. I am a little nervous (since I hate needles and am a big baby when it comes to pain) but I'll survive!

Kate, thanks! I think I will post a trip report while I am sitting around doing nothing all day Thursday and Friday. It'll be so quiet around the house while the kids are in school, I just won't know what to do with myself!

I agree with you that not all gyms are the same. Listen to your inner voice, & go with what is going to work the best for you. Do you have to lock in for a whole year at the new gym or could you go on a month to month membership? Whatever it takes to get you to the gym is worth it!

I'll be praying for a safe surgery & speedy recovery. :goodvibes

I know surgery is tomorrow and I'll be thinking of you. (mushy but true) I'm sure everything will go fine and in a couple of days you will be up and about! Don't worry about the gym stuff right now....if it's meant to be, it will happen. Hopefully they will come through with a discount....if not, then you'll know what is best.
Hang in there, and update when you can. :grouphug:

I did pretty good foodwise (if you don't count the cookies :blush: ). Today's official Wednesday weigh-in was 139. I was hoping I'd be less, but oh well, it will come off when I get back to working out. I leave in 15 minutes for my surgery, I am STARVING! Even worse, I am SO thirsty. It's torture! But I guess it's better than throwing up from the anesthesia... I drank 80oz of water, 2 cups green tea, 10oz iced tea and a DC:

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
9:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; Strawberries
11:45am: Turkey Medallions; Rice-A-Roni; Broccoli; Chocolate Chip Cookie
3:00pm: Egg Whites (4); Apple; Pistachios (1/4c in shells)
7:00pm: Beef Roast; Carrots; Red Potato (1/2); 4 LF Lemon GS Cookies
8:45pm: FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: Walking (40min)
RESISTED: Graham Crackers, Almonds

Jane, thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers! Good news - we can get a membership at the nice gym for $27/month or $324/yr. I am going to switch! They have tons more classes and it is closer to my house and it is worth the extra $10/month in my opinion! :thumbsup2

Marie, thanks for the well wishes! I will hopefully be able to catch up with everyone tomorrow. That is if I don't eat the keyboard later... :rotfl:

Great job on getting a lower fee for the better gym. I bet your good at buying cars too. (I've got cars on the brain since we're going to start looking for a car for ds to buy next month.) Sounds like you'll get more use from this gym, especially since its so close to your house. I'm praying that the surgery goes quickly & you get something to drink!!! That just sounds terrible. Hang in there!

Whoo hoo on the gym membership!! I hope the surgery went well! :wizard:

I survived! Yesterday after surgery I was pretty miserable but I slept a lot. I had really bad cramping pains, but those are gone this morning. Now the thing that hurts the worst is my belly button area and all the muscles underneath. But hopefully that will be much better tomorrow. At least the cramping part is done with! I finally got some ice chips at 2pm. But I was a little nauseated from the anesthesia so I wasn't too interested. I only got in a measly 20oz of water yesterday...

5:00pm: 3 Cinnamon Graham Crackers
7:00pm: Beef-n-Broccoli w/Brown Rice (1c total)
9:00pm: Kashi Crunch; FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: None (except I was busy cleaning house all morning!)
RESISTED: Nothing - not too interested in food (for a change!)

Jane, my dad works at GM so I get a discount. But you're right - if I didn't have that opportunity, I'd be doing all kinds of research! That's the engineer in me I guess.

Beth, thanks! I can't wait to get to that new gym and try out all the classes.

I'm glad that your surgery is over! :tigger: :goofy: :simba: Now you can start recuperating. There's nothing like doing without water for a whole day to really appreciate it. Going from 80oz to 0 must've been tough!

No fair doing housework on the same day you're going to have surgery!

Must be nice to get a discount on your cars! Ds scares me with the cars he thinks he wants. I can't wait until this is over.

I did OK foodwise, but my weight jumped up big time! I think it is probably from all the saline and swelling from surgery (at least that is what I am telling myself :rolleyes: ). I'm not going to worry about it too much. Today is much better, instead of feeling like I got stabbed in my stomach, I just feel like I got punched by Mike Tyson in the stomach... I drank 100oz of water; 8oz FF Chai; 10oz iced green tea:

7:15am: High Fiber O's w/Skim Milk
11:45am: FF Cottage Cheese; 6" Subway (turkey on wheat); 100 Calorie Pack
3:00pm: Laughing Cow Light Cheese; Strawberries
5:00pm: Almonds (1.2oz)
6:30pm: Homemade Taco Salad; Healthy Choice Fudge Bar
9:00pm: FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: None (this is killing me, I can't wait to workout again!)
RESISTED: Twinkies; Pudding
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, the water deprivation was WAY worse than the food! I'm glad I won't be having to do that again anytime soon! The housework was to keep my mind off eating and drinking... Good luck finding a car for your DS!
Just goes to show how bad salt is for you no matter how you get it. You watch - your surgery weight will be gone by next Monday. After not eating and not drinking your poor body probably hung on to every last calorie. I noticed you drank 200oz of liquid yesterday. Wow! You really were thirsty!
I got my EFL book!! I'm so glad I've got my own and can return the library's copy for someone else to use. Did you do the EFL taco salad yesterday? I'm thinking of trying either the taco salad or taco pasta for next week.
It won't be long until you go from this :sick: to this :yay:
Get feeling better!
I am still SO BLOATED! :scared: What the heck is going on? :confused3 Part of me wants to just eat everything in sight since my weight keeps increasing, but thankfully I still have some common sense and keep telling myself that I need to eat normally and not make it worse. If it is all water retention and swelling it will go away on its own. I didn't even weigh myself this morning - I don't want to know! :rolleyes: All I know is that I've been eating pretty darn good, which is the best I can do. I feel tons better today, I might try an easy workout later today or tomorrow. Yesterday I went to see Failure to Launch with my friend. It was pretty funny, but it really hurt my stomach muscles to laugh so much! I drank 80oz of water; a 32oz DC; about 16oz of Diet Snapple Tea:
7:45am: Egg Beaters w/Peppers & FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
9:45am: FF Cottage Cheese; Strawberries
12:30pm: Balance Bar
3:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Apple w/Cinnamon; Almonds (1.2oz)
6:00pm: Taco Salad w/FF Sour Cream; 1 Cinnamon Graham Cracker
7:00pm: Small Bag of Kettle Corn (@ school carnival)
9:00pm: FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: None, but we did walk to the carnival (15min roundtrip)
RESISTED: Movie Theater Popcorn; Pizza; Baked Goods @ Carnival
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, I LOVE the EFL Taco Pasta Salad! Yesterday I just had a regular taco salad with romaine, taco meat (turkey), tomatoes, LF cheese, FF sour cream and 2 crumbled up tostada shells. The rest of the family had homemade pizza... I am feeling WAY better today - I'd say I'm at 90% :cheer2: Thanks for all of your well wishes. :grouphug:

I'm so glad that you're feeling better - can't believe you went to the school carnival. Those things are hard to deal with even when you're not recuperating from surgery. Way to go with avoiding the pizza! :cheer2: Thats willpower! Rest, relax & have a super Sunday! :wave2:

Amy, glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm sure the bloatedness etc. will resolve itself soon.

Keep up the good eating, and try to ease back into the workouts. I know it's hard when you have to stay away for a while. Feels like forever!

Have a good day tomorrow. :sunny:

I feel SO MUCH better today! And the bloating/swelling around the belly is getting less and less every day. I can move around, I can touch my stomach and it doesn't hurt anymore! The only thing I can't do is put too much pressure on my belly button (like I did with the laundry basket - ouch!). I am going to try my Pilates Sculpt DVD later today. And if anything hurts, I will STOP, but I am confident I will be able to complete the whole workout. :banana: I might even go to the new gym today and get signed up for my free 5-day trial so I am all set to start working out on Monday. We'll see, there is tons we plan to do around the house today... Yesterday I drank 80oz of water; 12oz iced tea; 16oz FF Chai; a DC:

8:45am: Egg Beaters w/Peppers-n-FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
11:30am: FF Yogurt; Kashi Crunch
1:00pm: Egg Salad Sandwich on Wheat; Celery-n-PB
3:00pm: Balance Bar
6:30pm: Chicken Marco Polo; Alfredo Broccoli Pasta-Roni; Salad w/LF Dressing; Celery w/2 LF Laughing Cow wedges; 1 Graham Cracker
8:00pm: Single Scoop "Tea of Tranquility" ice cream :cloud9:
WORKOUT: Still none...
RESISTED: A cone AND double scoop at Baskin Robbins
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, I didn't want to go to that carnival, but it meant so much to the kids. It wasn't that bad except I got very tired towards the end. I am sick of relaxing and resting, it is the exact opposite of my normally active self! I am so happy I can finally resume some activity now!
Kate, I think this will be the first month since last July that I have not met my Exercise Challenge! But oh well, I will get back on track with the April Challenge! ;)
I behaved yesterday!!! I think I am mentally being VERY careful about my food intake since I have not been working out (plus I promised DH I would not work out until Wednesday at the earliest - one week post surgery). I made the EFL mousse with Cool Whip Light (I used Free in the past) and what a difference! I wanted to eat both portions, but I got a grip and get to look forward to a yummy dessert tonight! I have been slacking a little on my water the past couple days, but now that I am back to work I should be able to get back up to my 100oz per day. Yesterday I got in 80oz of water, 20oz FF Chai (too much!) and 10oz iced green tea:
8:15am: Egg beaters w/FF Cheddar; All Bran Yogurt Bites w/Skim Milk
12:45pm: Grilled Turkey-n-Jack on Wheat; Quaker Multigrain Minis (9)
3:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Strawberries; Cheez-Its (10)
6:30pm: Pork Chop; Mashed Potatoes; Cauliflower; EFL Vanilla Mousse
8:45pm: Cinnamon Swirls (1/4c)
WORKOUT: Still none... :guilty:
RESISTED: More Cheez-Its (hard to stop at 10!); the rest of the mousse
I'm going to have to try that mousse recipe. It must be good if you wanted to eat the whole thing! I bought some Cool Whip Lite for our strawberries for dinner tonight so this would be a good week to try it.
Glad to hear that you're resting. You don't want to overdo it right after you've had surgery. If you wait a week you'll be in much better shape to get started on your workout. Don't worry about the challenges. They're to encourage you NOT to rule you!
