Amy's New Start : Comments Welcome!

I think it's wonderful that you stuck to your guns and told your friend that you were sticking to your original WW time slot. Like you said, you never know, she might have been feeling the same way!

Great choice at Tokyo Joe's, you stayed within the same amount of points you had already planned out. :thumbsup2

You have the right attitude - focus on being healthy and the weight loss will come along with it. :goodvibes

Thanks Ladies.

Poor dd is sick again. I am telling you this poor child has been sick more this year than all six years in public school before. She came home from church last night saying she felt sick so I sent her to bed, she tossed and turned all night and woke up today white as a sheet, feeling nauseaus and had a fever of almost 101. So she's been home all day, sleeping thank goodness. She hasn't had one thing to eat but has drank two Disny mugs worth of Kool Aid. Poor thing. So I missed my workout. At 12, I am just not ready to leave her alone when she's sick. She never did barf which sad to say, probably would have made her feel better!

So I used this day to catch up on things around here. Been doing laundry, cleaning out drawers and things I just never seem to get to.

Food today:

Slim Fast
Lean Cuisine and 1 cup grapes
Two cookies (hey, I got bored!)
Taco salad made with 3 cups romaine, 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 1/4 cup 2% cheese, 1/4 cup pinto beans, and 4 oz of 96% lean ground beef.

My plan is to weigh in tomorrow but we'll have to see how dd is and if she goes to school. Given the way the scale has been treating me, I'm not that anxious to go but I am anxious for Maria to feel better poor thing.

I also have to keep telling myself that this weight will come off quicker than it took me to put it on in all liklihood. I need to stop setting number goals and set action goals. Things I can do. Like I will take some sort of step class sometime in April. I will work my way up to sprinting up the stairs at the track instead of walking up them. I will not allow any fast food in this house more than once per month. When I set these number goals of "I'll lose this much by this date" I am probably 50% of the way there to setting myself up to fail. Had I set some action goals for March like "I'll join the rec center and aim to work out five times per week" I would have made that goal and at least had that to fall back on to make me feel better even if the Damien Omen Scale from H*** didn't cooperate!

Lisa: I didn't give up but it was tempting. But then I came to my senses and realized I can do this.

Julie: Yeah, we can get a couple of cases of wine, some cans of gas and light those female parts on fire! We can use all our pads and tampons as kindle. ;) I am going to eat a lemon square on Easter but only IF I stay out of the chocolate. Of course, I don't plan to buy any so that might help me out a bit!

Amy: I love Tokyo Joes and now that I am sort of done with fast food, its sort of a fast alternative that is actually good for you.

:hug:Amy,

Sending some get well :wizard::wizard: Maria's way. Is she feeling better today?

I'm also sending some weigh-in :wizard::wizard: for you as well. You are doing a great job with food and with exercise! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I hope you have a great day today!

Poor DD! I hope she gets better soon. :wizard: Do your kids take vitamins?

GREAT IDEA on the non-weight goals!!! :cheer2: I think those will be much more productive because they are 100% under your control (who knows who controls the scale, but it definitely ain't us!) The fast food cut back goal is great. :thumbsup2 The only time my kids get fast food is when they go to their dad's or when we are on travel (and even then we get Subway!). If we are short on time, we usually have cereal for dinner, which they love and I think is healthier than a burger and fries!

Let me know when the Female Reproductive Organ Destruction party (FROD) will take place. I'll put it on my calendar! :lmao:

Thanks Tracy, Maria is still sick but feeling better than she was yesterday. I hope you are doing okay, I know this is a tough time for you.

Amy: My kids do take vitamins, and they are normally very healthy. As for the the fast food, it has never been a thing with them since when I eat it, I tend to eat it when they aren't there! I never let them eat sugar coated cereal or have soda. I am amazed (as I am sure you are) at how many of their friends start their day off with a bowl of sugar and drink soda regularly. This is the one thing with food that I am proud of. Obviously I am a work in progress, but my kids have great eating habits. I hope they always stay that way.

I didn't weight today, I just didn't want to leave dd home alone. So I plan to go tomorrow instead, my leader does a Sat. meeting so that should work out. I also plan to go to the gym today, normally Friday is my day off with that but since I took yesterday off, I need to go today. I can go as soon as Matthew is home, and here to keep an eye on his little sister. I was set to walk last night but it was 38 and windy and I just couldn't bring myself to go. Where is spring??? Thank goodness I have they rec center which is climate controlled since its cold today too.

Tomorrow, I plan to do some Easter shopping, both kids were supposed to be gone to an inner city community center tomorrow to do a neighborhood clean up and an Easter Egg hunt with pre schoolers, and now I don't think Maria can go. Ds is still planning on going with his best friend so that's good. I am so pleased he is doing all this coummunity work, with his church group and on his own, I was proud, when it snowed recently, he headed over on his own to shovel our neighbor's driveway. She is the one whose husband passed away in January. He's a good kid, its nice to see him going from little boy to a nice young man. Now if he would just get a couple of those grades up! I swear he never gives me a minute's trouble except with slacking off at school in the past couple of years. He keeps telling me the advanced curriculum makes you have to be too creative and "thoughtful". Um, well maybe that's too bad!

I have no special plans today or tomorrow with family or friends so that should help the old WW food plan! It is so easy to get off track when you eat with others! Sunday is brunch with our friends and that will likely be a food and Mimosa fest but if I behave otherwise, that should be fine. Of course that is what I thought last week. We'll see how that worked out tomorrow when I weigh in. I do plan to look up the points for champagne and limit myself to one or two and I am making my brunch casserole lowfat so I'll know how to count that. Since I don't like ham that can be avoided and hopefully, she'll have a fruit salad or something. Then I will have one lemon square and hopefully that is all in the sweets department! I don't nomrally buy my kids more than one chocolate bunny each and a small amount of jelly beans (which I hate) so I won't have a bunch of candy around next week. I plan to get them each some Disney Dollars for their baskets which are zero point treats that I can't eat!

Happy Easter and have a good weekend!:flower3:

Forgot to post food for today (Friday).

Breakfast: Slim Fast
Lunch, ww pasta with low fat turkey and 1TB parmesan
Snack: Yogurt and grapes
Dinner: Chicken with broccoli and rice.
Snack: ff/sf pudding

I am not hungry today. I hope that doesn't mean I am coming down with dd's crud. I may take her in for a throat culture tomorrow, she has a sore throat and some nausea and I want to make sure. Its full blown strep season still around here. I can't help but wonder if our wacko weather plays a part. Yesterday it was 50, the day before 75. I will never not do flu shots again! She is so bummed to miss that mission project tomorrow, she was really looking forward to doing the egg hunt for those little kids.

I hope DD gets better soon! :wizard:

Did you make it to WI this morning? That's cool that your fave leader has more than one time slot. That way you can still see her even if you have to be flexible with your schedule.

And I think that is great that you are going to count the points for the mimosas! When I track the cocktail calories on FitDay it is a total eye-opener!

BE STRONG at your Easter celebration tomorrow. I know you can stick to your plan and be proud of yourself on Monday. :goodvibes

hi amy
hope dd feels better soon!!
Have a great easter weekend

Thanks Amy: I didn't stay too strong sad to say.:sad2:

Tracey: Dd is well, she got over it so much quicker than last time and so far nobody else has gotten it!

I didn't do well with food this weekend. I think it was a combo of more snow and cold (so incredibly sick of that) and just feeling sort of depressed about Easter. It was really weird not to be with family yesterday and harder than I thought. Our friends invited us for brunch and it was fun, but weird to be with family (we were the only non family members at the gathering) and seeing our friends interact with their parents made both Dan and I a bit sad. Both my parents are dead, his dad is in L.A. and his mom has had nothing to do with Dan for many years (since before our marriage, nasty divorce fallout). I drank too many mimosa's and ate too much but its done now so what can I do? Today I moved on so to speak and worked out really hard at the rec center this morning. Its just a bummer, I NEEDED a good weekend. Oh well, I've been doing so well and not lost a pound, so I guess not doing well won't probably be any worse!

I didn't weigh in Saturday, I only had time to either weigh or workout and I chose to work out. Food on Friday night and Saturday night was spotty but not awful. The mimosa's yesterday obviously killed me! Food today has been really good and I also worked out in my yard which is good exercise.

I think holidays are just hard to cope with and when they come up, its going to sting a bit. And since food is my #1 Coping Tool, its going to sting my diet too! Oh well, no major holidays to get through til Thanksgiving so I should be good.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter!

I need to catch up with journals later, Ds needs the computer (got to get that kid a computer). Oh speaking of Ds, he did the sweetest thing. He heard me talking about an old Roberta Flack song that my parents loved (The First Time) and I was telling him how my mom would listen to that by the hour after my dad died and how I would love to hear it. So he downloaded it for me and him. He told me when he listened to it at school today (they let them listen to music during study hall) he got choked up and had to make a mad dash to the bathroom. I guess I should have warned him, every time I hear it I am a wreck! I just thought it was sweet he'd put that old song on his Mp3 player and actually listen to it.

I was so sore this morning! I guess doing several hours of yardwork for the first time since last fall was the culprit. But my yard looks very nice! I didn't feel like aquasizing today, my friend skipped and it was tempting but I went. I did 30 minutes of water walking then 60 minutes of aquasize. At first my knees and back really hurt and I was about to bag it and go home but then it started to loosen up. So I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I am doing a major clean out for Good Will and trying to stay out of the kids Easter candy. So far so good. One of the great things about going to somebody else's house for a holiday dinner is that I have no leftovers to eat or throw away (to avoid eating). Well, I actually did bring home 4 lemon squares and the kids each had one yesterday and there are two left for them today. So I did well with staying out of those. Strange, they aren't even tempting me. The peanut m & m's however are. So I need to stay away from those little evil nuggets of fat and calories.

Food today:
Breakfast: Slim Fast (3)
Snack: Peanut butter on 1 slice of light bread: (3)
Lunch: Salad with turkey and egg white and 2% millk cheese with lf dressing: 7
Snack: Yogurt (2)
Dinner: Crockpot chicken with broccolli and 1/2 cup rice: 7
Total: 22
Okay, that's a 7 point underage(is that a word?). I guess somewhere today I need to eat some points. But its not gonna be from m & m's!;) I think I"ll have some cheese and crackers and carrots. That should about do it. Since I am craving cheese and crackers, I might as well eat some.

That is sweet that DS downloaded that song!

I think you made the right choice by working out instead of weighing in. Don't worry about the Easter diet disaster, it could have been WAY WORSE, and it wasn't! :thumbsup2 You have the next couple days to behave and flush the champagne out of your system!

Amy, too funny, we are posting at the same time! Yeah, I was pretty happy that I worked out. I needed to given what I ate the next day.:rolleyes1

Glad your DD got better.
I have a question about the points you do. Sometimes you mention that you are under points and need to add something in. Why is that? Is it a metabolism thing?

Lisa,

I am on Weight Watchers and we are assigned a number of points per day. Each food has a points value that is calculated based on calories, fat and fiber (they give you a scale/tool to measure food values). Based on your gender, age, weight, height and activity level, you are assigned a number of points. I get 29 per day right now (high due to my weight, the more you weigh, the more you get, the only time in life I can think its good to weigh more ;)) So you try to come in on target each day, you also get a certain amount of extra points to use each week and you can earn extra points with exercise. Basically, its just a fancy way to count calories!

Do you have a journal on here? I have looked and can't find you? You are so sweet to look in on me, if you have a journal, I'd like to do the same!:)

Thanks for the info. Now I understand about points.
No, I don't have a journal yet, but plan to start one soon.

Okay, I just started one. The link is in my signature.

You've gotten a lot of exercise in in the past couple of days, Amy! Way to go!!!:cheer2:

That was so sweet of your DS to download that song for you. :goodvibes

I hope you have a wonderful day today!

The choice to WI or exercise is a no brainer here....I frequently chose exercise over WI. After doing WW for so long, it's infinitely more helpful to work out!

Peanut M&Ms are a horrid temptation for me, too! I can't even bring them into the house 'cuz I would still eat the whole bag!! DD made lemon squares for Easter & I managed to stay out of them, too!

Hopefully your weather is getting better & you will send it our way. Unfortunately, the winds are coming again......

Have a GREAT rest of the week & keep up the AWESOME exercise!!!!

Julie: I am telling you for as many of those meetings as I have sat through, you'd think I'd be at goal and leading them myself. Which is a goal of mine. Maybe someday!

Tracy: Ds was very sweet to do that, its just like him. But that song makes me insanely sad and weepy! So I make sure I only listen at home.

Lisa: I found your journal! Good for you for starting one.:thumbsup2

I ate out both lunch and dinner today. I had planned to eat out lunch with a friend for our monthly get together and I picked Chick Fil A since I can get a chicken salad sandwich on whole grain bread with fruit but dinner was supposed to be turkey burgers. But I ran out of time and it was church for the kids tonight and just hectic and crazy. Dh and I had just enough time to hit Home Depot and buy paint and supplies for this weekend's home improvement project. So dh and I had Chipotle and I got a burrito bol with extra lettuce but without rice. I did have enough leftover pasta from Monday for the kids but not enough for dh and I. Poor planning. Which translated to two meals eating out today. Even with good choices, the salt content in restaurant food is the last thing I need.

I did resist waffle fries and Baskin Robbins (wanted that badly) so that was good. It was just one of those tough days when I was craving salt, fat and sugar all day. But I held my own. Just not happy I didn't plan better for dinner.

Made it to the gym, did twenty minutes on the bike and 30 minutes of walking. Drank all my water and its now past 9:00 and I am starving.

I plan to weigh on Friday come what may. Last weekend will probably be rearing its ugly head when I weigh but its my own fault. I just never learn where weekends are concerned!:sad2:

We all have these kind of days, just remember that tomorrow is another day to try again. Just like this weekend is another weekend to try again. And if you drank plenty of water then you probably counteracted some of the extra salt intake. :thumbsup2
Amy, you are so determined that I have no doubt you will succeed. Hey, I just noticed that you will be at the World in June. We will be there June 7-13.

Hi Amy,

I see lots of positives in your post!:thumbsup2 Let's take a look:

* A Burrito Bol without rice with extra lettuce

* A chicken sandwich on a whole grain bun with fruit

* Resisted Waffle Fries AND Baskin Robbins!

* Went to the gym

* Drank all your water

Those are all victories, Amy!:cheer2: No worries on eating out twice yesterday. You made some excellent choices and you should be very proud of yourself. I'm proud of you!

I hope you have a wonderful day ahead!
