Hello my dear friends!
I'm excited to update my wife's condition today. We've just returned from the doctor's office. There's no good news, but no bad news. And as they say, no news IS good news. The Ultrasound shows plenty of activity from little Kimberly Jane, and all measurable factors look "stable." You'd like them to tell you more, but you learn to accept that it's when they don't seem concerned that you take your next breath.
Amy's doing mostly well. She's having a fitful time sleeping. I've created her the best Shangri-la I can, putting the lazy boy recliner in the bedroom, along with dueling heating pads and lights so she can sleep, read, and warm her back in either the chair or the bed. The steriod shots are done, hopefully this will buy her another hour sleep per night.
We had a great Saturday and a lousy Sunday. Sunday was lousy because it was the day we were to go to Epcot and we couldn't stop obsessing. But we got through by having cheese soup and steak, and we spent an hour together feeling the baby kick. All-in-all, I'd rather have been in Epcot, but I was happy to have my wife home and healthy and my baby girl in the womb where she belongs for a few more weeks. We also enjoyed looking at Epcot pictures from our friends here!
As for Saturday and the Hoop Dee Doo party, we had quite the time. In the end, we free-lanced a lot. The big change was loss of the "western" theme. I couldn't find The Apple Dumpling Gang, and Amy decided she didn't want to see Blazing Saddles for the umpteenth time. The she let it fly that she's never seen Pinnochio. Is that sad, or what? So I got Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day for the opening feature, and we just Disney'd out.
Our food stuck close to HDD theme, but I was of course at the whim of pregnancy cravings. Amy suddenly decided she wasn't in the mood for pork, and wanted popcorn chicken. So I got her some! I made her corn, mashed potatoes with gravy, decent salad and rolls, and since she didn't want strawberry shortcake, I made her chocolate chip cookies (have I mentioned I'm the cook in the family?). We had quite the time.
I'd like to take yet another opportunity to thank the multitudes of people who have mailed various pictures, cards, flowers, and other artifacts. I'm stunned to say we've received over 60 pieces of mail, etc. since last Tuesday. Since most of you left a trail on how to write back, expect some response. Amy is overwhelmed and grateful for this support and attention. Writing back makes her feel good, and it gives her something to do all weekend when I won't let her move.
At least one person has left me no return address. Perhaps this person wishes to remain anonymous, which I want to respect. So you force me to express my gratitude here! We received a "cactus garden" to help set the mood for the HDD party. Rest assured, it made it on time (Saturday morning), and it sat front and center as the symbol of the dinner show we were trying to emulate, the Orlando vacation we were missing, and the kindness of our new friends that got us through the first ten days of this trying period. I wish I could thank you personally.
Our spirits are high. I'll sound like a broken record for some time to come, but the thoughts and prayers of others are felt, appreciated, and important. The creativeness of the things that have come piling through our door has been surprising. As I say, many of you will be hearing from Amy. She's having me take a picture of her by her Winnie-the-Pooh laden crib, which she wants to send to people. We've received several teddy bears (Amy's passion) from our Disboard friends. They'll all be waiting in the crib when Kimberly comes home for good.
I should point out Amy is back to work. Rest assured this was doctor-supported. Simple fact: we live in the sticks. When we're at home, Amy's 25 miles from the hospital. And my office is near the hospital, so Monday through Friday, I'm also 25 miles from her. When she's at her office, she's two miles from the hospital, four miles from me. And she's working with a bunch of cowboys that are enjoying keeping her on a short rope, doing all her field work for her, fetching her lunch every day, and developing a "lounge" so she can take a private nap every day. Needless to say, being at work, even if she can't really do anything but sit there, has elevated her mood 100%.
Bless you all. Each time I write, I'm overcome with emotion for help turning what seemed like a disaster 8 days ago into a simple change in battle plan. I'll keep ya posted.
