Amusement Park Attendance Rises 4.2 Percent

Thanks for the info! Not good for Universal and GE!!

I'll say, not good for Universal/GE, especially considering even the Six Flags parks had gains. DCA even managed a gain.

Well, Disney must be doing something right to have at least a five percent increase at all four Florida theme parks. :rotfl: Even California Adventure had a significant increase.

I think it just goes to show - You can have all the thrill rides you want - It's not Disney.

Often imitated - Never duplicated.

Thanks for the link....I had heard the overall 4.2% on the news but the breakdown is great,,,,so sad for Universal :cool1:

If you think about it, this is great news for Universal Park fans. Universal management knows the market is there for growth, and they're missing out on it. Disney has added more attractions over the past year than Universal. The burden is on Universal to draw more people in by embiggening their lineup of attractions.

Disney, on the other hand, is in a position to sit back and service the needs of their shareholders over their customers.

I also think the MYW ticketing process has been a big win for Disney. Two weeks ago, I purchased passes for eight people. Adding a seventh day to our pass only cost about $25 extra. If we had spent that seventh day at Universal, it would have cost me a few hundred dollars. Easy choice.

I agree. I would have spent a day at Universal but decided not to because the extra day at Disney parks only cost a few dollars, whereas a day at Universal would have cost $200.

Also, the dining plan stopped me from staying at a Universal resort.

Not good for Universal, but someone in marketing at Disney deserves a raise!

WDW has been doing a good job, recently, to better appeal to teens, as well.

I agree - I thought at first MYW wouldn't make a difference in the least, but the decline in Universal's numbers show it has.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I was surprised to read MGM's attendance is 1/2 of MK's (16 million versus 8 million) I could see MK being higher, but by double?

3 million is pretty good for Cedar Point too I thought, especially considering they are only open Mid-May to end of September or so.

Really interesting about Universal, I thought they'd be a little closer to Disney attendance wise since I hear so much about them all the time. :confused3

I myself have NO desire to go to Universal, but I know alot of people who love it.

wow
good for disney for boosting up those numbers

i was surprised six flags was so low

and cedar point, the roller coaster capitol of the world, was DOWN!

haha :cool1:

Interesting. I am surprised, very much so, that Universal went down? Especially since overall trend in the industry was on the upswing???

They didn't add any rides this year, to go along with the fact that Disney has started monopolizing tourists in an unfair manner. They have new attractions lined up for 2006 and 2007 and the airport could challenge ME, so I wouldn't be too worried.

Who's worried, Disney no, Universal yes. :earsboy:
