"Amuck, amuck, amuck!" A Pre-TR (link to TR in the first post)

UGH!! Why is it I pick the worst dates EVER when it comes to Disneyland trips????? I always seem to do this. :confused3

I just read on another thread today that in Utah they have something called the UEA (Utah Education Association) convention. It's basically a convention for teachers to attend, so the public schools in Utah are closed during that time.

Well, guess when the convention is???? October 16 and 17!! And I read that most of the families use that time as a chance to pack up and head to Disney for a nice long four day week-end. So many in fact, that it's also called UEA: Utah Escapes to Anaheim!!! :scared1:
Add to that the fact that some AZ schools are on break during that week and you've pretty much got a recipe for disaster. :sad2:

I've heard that the resorts are sold out! And with so many rides closed and Fantasmic down that will make it seem worse, since usually a good chunk of people will be watching the show and you can hit some rides then.

So I'm trying to convince myself NOT to freak out. I'm telling myself we'll be there from the 13th through the 19th, that's plenty of time to see and do everything we want to, even if it is HOT and CROWDED!! OK, calm down. Breathe.

I've been when it's crowded before. I can do this. I can read some of Hydroguys tips on how to tackle DL when it's PACKED and I can use Fast Pass, and RideMax and it will be fine. Right? Right???

The main thing is we'll be at Disney. (inhale)

I'll be with my family. (exhale)

We'll know ahead of time what to expect so we won't be caught off guard with hot weather and high crowds. (inhale)

The Halloween decorations will be up. (exhale)

Everything is going to be ok. (inhale)

There.....just keep repeating that. Don't panic. Think peaceful thoughts. :hippie: (exhale) Ahhh, much better. :goodvibes

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

HELP!!!!

Well,
You could hope for a little rain that usually clears the place out.

Also that is only on part of your trip. And because of the current economy the crowds have been down this year. It could prove to be true for the time you are there this time also.

We have been there when the hotels were full and the park wasn't that bed. You could be lucky like we were.

Now take a deep breath in through the nose out through the mouth. Repeat after me "nothing will ruin this trip.":goodvibes

HELP!!!!

1. When it's crowded...that makes for some interesting people-watching while waiting in lines.
2. Get to the parks early
3. Stay late.
4. Fastpass, fastpass, fastpass!
5. Eat your meals at odd times to avoid super busy restaurants and counter service. (Sometimes it doesn't help much, but other times it does make a difference.)
6. Don't take Hydro's advice as gospel because in reality I don't think he's been to the parks that much.
7. It could be worse. You could be there on New Years Eve. EEK! :scared:

Ya, I think it's definitely possible (even probable) that it won't really be packed. But you're right - even if it is on a couple of the days that you'll be there, you're prepared for the possibility and you have ways to plan around it. It will still be an awesome vacation.

Hmmmm, rain might work! I love the rain so that would be ok with me.

OK, I'm putting in my request for some rain!

I like the ticker you put up!! Never too early to start planning I always say. ;)

I had a ticker on my siggy that started to read 2 years and counting see it's closer now. Only two months and it will be under a year

Breathe in, breathe out. Hey if you like rain, bring ponchos

You know what? We've been a few times on NYE, and it was awesome. It was just one big party, and Disneyland to boot. It just has to not be your one trip of the year or decade or whatever, because you won't get on many rides. But it is still the best NYE party we've ever been to.

2.23 million people live in Utah. Over 3 million live in Los Angeles, not even counting Orange County, San Diego, etc. You're better off w/a big portion of Utah people coming than a big %age of locals coming. Right?

We always do. Gotta hit the Dollar Tree store for those. :thumbsup2 I bring them for the Grizzly Rapids ride. The kids like to get wet and I don't mind it, but that ride is beyond getting wet. That's like showering with clothes on. LOL

I miss the rain, so if by some chance it did rain while we are there. I'd be just fine with it.

HAve you really? Is it really packed? I just envision wall to wall people. But maybe not. It might be cool if as you said, it wasn't your one and only trip.

This New Year we are thinking of heading down to the Strip. Talk about crowded!! :scared: And everyone is drunk too. Actually Disneyland on New Years doesn't sound that bad after all. :lmao:

Hi,

I started reading a couple of days ago and just caught up. Love the thread!

First of all I want to thank you for keeping me so interested that I didn't get up and graze in the kitchen (the cookie pictures almost did me in).

I was so excited to see that some of the Halloween stuff is in the stores. I was afraid that going in September that we would miss it all.

It has been very busy, and when it's leading up to midnight, everyone stands out in Main St. and it's just wall-to-wall people, but the atmosphere (thanks to no alcohol)has been very friendly. They have music to dance to, and some years they've had a balloon drop. We have gone when it's been one price for all day and night, and times when it's been a separate ticket from the day. I can't tell you the last time we did it. It is definitely not covered on the deluxe annual passes, which is what we've had the past couple of years.

My cousin and his family went to NYE at WDW and he said he would never go again at that time a year but then my midwife went for 2000 and she said it was awesome, crowded but awesome

We were at Disneyland on New Years Eve one night. We only lasted maybe an hour. It was awful. You couldn't move through the crowd at all. I couldn't believe people had small children there. I'd be too afraid to do that. And Disney thought it was a great idea to hand out noise makers really early. I had so many obnoxious teens blowing them in my ears. Just awful. That was the first and last time we went on NYE.

I think WDW would be better on NYE because there's more space to walk. And it's more tourists and less locals.

Hi Jane!! Thanks so much for reading along! :flower3:

Sorry about the cookies. A word of advice, I love my food porn, so always read on a full stomach or at least with a bottle of water handy. Especially once we actually get back from the trip as I plan to take pics of every little treat we get. :rotfl:

I would love to see pics of DL on NYE! I bet it's really something. I think a big part of it has to do with you tolerence level for crowds. Some people can handle it and some can't. Same with here in Vegas. Some locals would rather have a root canal then go down to the Strip on really busy days but for others, it doesn't bother them.

Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone. :)

Ahh... I couldn't help myself. LOL

I've been tucked away engrossed in that STUPID of all STUPID books, TWILIGHT. Don't get me wrong, I've already got book 2 at a friends house just waiting for me to trade with her as she hasn't read the first one yet. But man-o-man... as much as it drew me in the first 150 pages the next 100 were pure teenage angst. Blech.

I hate the idea of teenage girls reading a book where the charcaters are so in love they'd risk their "obsession" murdering them! Makes me a little sick, really. Sorry.. I am SO off topic it's definitely inappropriate. SORRY!

I think your trip is going to be SO fun and I know it will be because you guys are a great, fun family! Also, you take the most awesome pics and cover ALL the good stuff (as seen in the Cool wind in your hair report). You ROCK!

MElissa

My teenage daughter didn't enjoy the first one. If you want books that are female empowering and are really a good read and are fit for teenage girls too I have the author for you.

Tamora Pierce. She has a series of books that has sub-series. They start with THe Lioness, then they go from there. The Lioness series is about a young girl who really wants to become a knight so she pretend to be her brother. I bought the first book to read to find out if they were approproate for my girls and fell in love. They are you go girl books.

Sorry for keeping it off topic but I figured that having daughters that you might want a good author for them.

Now back to regularly scheduled programing.
