Go to amtrak guest rewards and sign up for an account first---FOR ALL PEOPLE TRAVELING! You can only earn points for one person even if you buy everyone's ticket! However, you may buy all the tickets and enter all of their rewards account numbers during the purchase and everyone can earn points for more travel. Then, go to this site and apply for their credit card.Print the website page with offer info.I applied and was accepted in about 6 days BUT when they applied the points it was only about 10,000 points!!I called and told them that the offer I had was for 30,000 points not what they gave me.They then added on the extra points. Not sure if it happens often but I would print the offer in case you need to refer to it later on.The 30,000 points can be used for your roomette to Florida :) I will be using mine!!Great thing is as long as you have the card (and you don't need to keep a bal. on it) the points do not expire on you rewards account. If you and your daughter are going, I would BOTH apply. Then you buy the trip down with your account points and she can buy the trip home with her's.Read online and it has lots of info on this great program. Pepe may have more info to offer as well:worship:

How long did it take you to get your card? I want to book our train tickets as soon as possible, and those free points will be fabulous! We will definately use them for 2 roomettes going down!!! Thanks again for the information.

My understanding on the credit card that the points are not awarded until after you complete one trip....I do not believe you can apply for the card and then book a trip and use the bonus points......I have read it as, apply for the credit card and book a trip and after the first trip the points will be awarded....check on this....it could have changed !

I just got the card and it came about a week or so after applying. I didn't get the 30,000 points, but 18,000, so that's disappointing. I received the points after the first time I used the card, but they didn't show up in my guest rewards until my first billing cycle. So I receive the card about three weeks ago, and the points are already in my rewards account. I have been building points for a couple of years (without the card) and now with the points from the card I have enough for two roomettes roundtrip. We are excited to plan our trip for Disney in June of 2012!

Why didn't you get the 32,000 points?

The application I filled out offered 18,000 points. I wasn't aware of the offer for 30,000 points. So I should have researched a little more to try to get more points, but the 18,000 was enough for what I wanted, so I guess I shouldn't complain :)

Ok...when you look at the roomette it says: Showers nearby. There are showers for customers with a room? Where are they located?

Pepe-no trip is required to get the points :thumbsup2
We buy about $10 in gas and POOF the points come on!!

Melanie-you should see the card in 10 days or so.Use it that day :) also there is a shower area on the train car with the roomettes BUT you would have to really need a shower IMO. I usually head right to the hotel shower for a quick one.The train ride from Albany to WDW arrives by about 11am so we head over and shower, peek around at the hotel and are ready to head to a park by 3pm.

Hi everyone I am on the Silver Meteor heading to Orlando. Its been a good trip and I would encourage you to take a train ride sometime. The seats are comfortable in coach. We peeked at the roomettes and felt we had more room in coach and there was only one dining car, and all the reservations were booked by the time the server got to our car, but other than that its been wonderful. We are delayed by something like 30 minutes at this point.

what else? I would strongly suggest you bring some food with you. The trip is long from New York to Orlando. My kids have plowed through most of what we brought, but I have a better understanding of what we need to bring for our trip home! ( which I am not really thinking about right now LOL)

Thanks for the information about Amtrak! I got my CC yesterday and when I called today to activate it they said my 16,000 points would be applied in a few weeks. When I said that the offer I used gave me 32,000pts they corrected it right away!! I can't wait to see those points so we can get free rooms!! So excited!

SO JACKED! Just got off the phone with Amtrak. I didn't realize that the 15,000 pts for the roomette INCLUDES the cost of the travel. I thought that I needed to buy round trip tickets and then spend 15,000 pts on the roomette. NOPE! So I just need to book our seats for the return trip home! It is only going to cost us $140 for 4 of us to come home from Universal Studios! What a GREAT deal!!!

Who was it that told me they took the train from Cary, NC to Orlando? We are taking it next Tuesday, but have a few questions. The station is closed for renovation, so there is not office to call. I am trying to find out if I can park my car in the Amtrak lot. Last time, we left from Raleigh, and were allowed to leave the car there.

Thank you - I will definitely look into this. And thanks for the picture of the Penn Board. I definitely won't be able to miss that.

I had an out of the body experience at Penn Station.
On a work trip to Phila I needed a rest room. The infomation building did not have a restroom and advised to go to the Penn Station. I went in on that corner used the restroom, down a level, around some corridors.

I have no idea what happened, but as my dh circled around to watch for me, I came up to st level with assistance from an officer...the only problem was, I was looking at the back of City Hall with William Penn on top,...where I went in was around the corner and several blocks down....Without my walker....
Oh was I hurting...
The cell phome, was in the car with DH. That is a HUGE station, an entire city underground.
:scared1:

I would drive by this weekend if you can. If you can't pm me and I will be happy to drive by this week and check for you. The lot was partially blocked last time we went by.

I know I won't make it by; we live 45 minutes away. If you happen by, please let me know. We drove through after we picked our tickets up from Raleigh and I don't remember it being blocked, but I also don't remember what the signs said regarding long-term parking. Since the station isn't open, I don't know how I'd get a permit:confused3 I have been calling the Raleigh station, but all I get is a recording:sad2:
