We return from our cruise at 8am on Mon. 12/7 ~ we'd like to get to Anaheim as quickly and cheaply as possible. I'm looking into Amtrak's Surfliner route and for 2 A & 2 K it'd be $66 - problem there's one Anaheim station but several San Diego stations - which one is closest to where our cruise ship will dock? I'm using the SAN station and if we can make the 9:30am train we'd make it to Anaheim @ 11:26am (the prior departing train leaves @ 8:10am - too soon after we can leave the ship).

So my ?'s

Which Amtrak station do we want to leave from in San Diego?

Does this sound like a good plan?

Any other ideas?

I don't know which cruise ship you are taking, but when we were on Carnival this summer, it docked right downtown. The train station isn't too far away. That's the only Amtrak station in San Diego that I know of.

Since I've taken that train before (by the way, if you have AAA you should get 10% off if you book ahead of time), I have an idea of where the SAN station is, so I went a'googling for you.

The San Diego port/cruise website mentions that it's about 10 minutes away from the Santa Fe train station, googled that and that's the SAN station on N Kettner. Which is the one I left from. :)

As far as I can recall the other stop is actually bus stop near Seaworld...you'd get off the train and transfer for that...and the other is the Old Town station. But yes, use SAN.

I really enjoyed the train. I actually caught the very first out of town...I'd been to Madonna the night before, and was on a "girl's trip" with some really low morals women and just wanted to LEAVE, so I got about 3 hours of sleep after arranging an early morning taxi ride. It doesn't go along the coast the whole way, and there are some backyards you look into, but on the whole it's a nice trip.

You end up at their station (ANA) that is basically in the Angels parking lot. It looks like you're in a wasteland until you follow the path along, go through a tunnel under the tracks, and then amazingly it's a station...an outdoor station, but still, a station. There will be cabs waiting for you, and it would have been $13 by meter to DLH. I balked at that price and the cabbie was nice, and arranged a flat fee of $10. Got a bigger tip that way, which I'm sure he was hoping for. :)
