Ample Hills Creamery - How is it?

I am an ice cream fanatic and love unique flavors, so Ample Hills Creamery at the BWI looks pretty interesting to me. Unfortunately, we aren't staying at the Epcot resorts and would have to make a special trip out there. I'm having a hard time figuring out when to go - it just doesn't quite work out with our plans that well - but I'd love to try it. (The easiest time to go would be right after having dinner at Shula's Steakhouse - and from what I've read, we are going to be 100% stuffed after that dinner... so IDK.)

For those of you who had it, what did you think? Would you make a special trip there, or was it just okay? What did you have there?

I'm interested in hearing about these flavors... and how they are in sundae form!
  • Ooey Gooey Butter Cake
  • Nonna D's Oatmeal Lace
  • Sally Sells Seashells
My DH, on the other hand, would love to hear about the milkshakes!

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Haven't had it in Disney yet but we make many trips to NYC from CT and almost always fit in a stop at Ample Hills somewhere along the way. It is the best ice cream I have ever had. Two of the flavors you mention-Nonna D's and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake-are favorites of mine. The Butter Pecan Brittle is amazing as well. Absolutely worth the trip-I have made my husband drive to Brooklyn from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx just to get ice cream after a game-it can take an hour with traffic even though it is only 15 miles-Lol.

It is absolutely, positively the best ice cream I've ever had.

I haven't tried the flavors you asked about, but in the interest of science, I would be glad to schedule a weeklong trip to the Boardwalk and perform a taste test!

During a recent trip they were out of all those flavors whenever we stopped in. Frankly, they were out of more flavors than they had and were clearly overwhelmed. We finally ordered vanilla to try the ice cream and were not bowled over. Clearly, the product was high quality but with vanilla it really is hard to stand out.

Oh no - can anyone confirm if this happens often? Perhaps this person went right when they first opened? I would be SO upset if I made a special trip out there for plain ol' vanilla ice cream!

I can't confirm but am interested in the answer as well. DH and I plan to stop over for ice cream next month after lunch on the BW. Even though we won't be making a special trip just for the ice cream, I don't want to get my hopes up if they often run out of multiple flavors!

Have you thought about going over during your Epcot or DHS visit? We plan to take a mid-day break while at DHS and get some. We might do Beaches & Cream to go instead, since we haven't been to either, but I am leaning toward Ample Hills.

If you have to choose one, I highly recommend Ample Hills over Beaches & Cream. B&C satisfies an ice cream craving, but Ample Hills' quality is noticeably higher. After we discovered AH, we were kicking ourselves that we had gone to B&C the night before.

Your suggestion to try Ample Hills as a midday break is a great one. During our trip, the afternoons were not as busy at Ample Hills, and all of their flavors were available. Nighttime was busier, for sure!

We have tried the Ample Hills at the Boardwalk back in late May. The ice cream is very good. And the portions I thought was "ample" haha. I did not try the favors you asked about nor did we get a shake. We just got the ice cream in a bowl. I did have (forget the name of the flavor) but it is similar to cookies and cream (Oreo type cookie in a vanilla ice cream). It was good but it had too much cookies in it..... But I did not spit any of it out :)

Thanks - I'm definitely going to try to go during an afternoon so they aren't as busy and less likely to run out of flavors! :)

If anyone can tell me about their sundaes or shakes, that would be great!

We went 3 times over the course of our 10 day vacation. It was AMAZING. They were out of a lot the first time we went, but not the next two times. I am STILL craving the Sally Sells Seashells. It was fantastic (and I am not big on ice cream outside of vanilla or tin roof sundae). It has a fantastic texture.

I also fell in love with the limoncello one...as did my 9 year old. He ordered it each time we went. Most sour ice cream I have ever had, but it was SO refreshing.

I think between the 4 of us, over 3 trips, we tried the majority of them, and all were phenomenal!!

I would DEFINITELY squeeze it in. Quick walk from Epcot, or a leisurely boat ride from DHS.

We always stroll through the Boardwalk on every trip. I would use an ice cream as a very good reason to hit the Boardwalk and explore the shops.

I would go on your Epcot day. Leave out of the International Gateway which takes you right to the Boardwalk where the Creamery is. Enjoy!

Worth every calorie! Loved the baked unbaked and chocolate cookies & cream (not the exact name). My husband had oatmeal lace and it was great. The seashells was a bit too sweet for me.

Like that you can mix two flavors in a small!

A must do
