Amish family in Magic Kingdom

I live around a lot of Amish. They live well outside of town, but can accept rides from people. You see them all the time in our grocery stores buying supplies, and at the farmer's markets in the summer. If you need house repairs done, they are the first person you call. There are several mennonite families that drive for them. They can also drive if it is a ncessity and there is nobody available.

My vote also goes for Mennonite or Hutterite.

Mennonite & Hutterite do not shun technology but adhere to traditional dress and grooming codes for both men and women.

Like any other "denomination" or sect, Amish people live in different communities and the elders make different interpretations of scripture and "rules". I go to a very conservative presbyterian church theologically for instance, but we have very modern worship with a full band, and most of us wear jeans. I'm told we're pretty much the "black sheep" of the presbytery. I would think Amish would be similar. I believe that "new order" amish use electricity in their homes, but only for specific tasks. And I agree, I'm sure mennonite families would also be a good possibility

I think that the you all are wrong . . . they were in all likelihood Luddites, just on a little intell mission.

The Mennonite are allowed to own cars, as long as they are black. They can also have electric and phones, but they still keep to the simple lifestyle.
That is dependent on their denomination. I have spent most of my life in Mennonite/Amish "country". Each church seems to have their own rules as to what is/is not allowed. I have lived beside them, gone to school with them, and worked with them. So, I have seen it all. In fact, my brother and his family just joined a Mennonite church. The church they attend is modern in their traditions. They wear normal clothes and drive normal cars. Some of the older women do wear the head coverings. But, on Sunday only.

We live in the middle of Ohio Amish country...and while it is a bit out of the ordinary, it doesn't really surprise me that an Amish family would make it to WDW.

Like many religions, there are definitely very conservative Amish (like the Beachy Amish) and more liberal.--and this may have nothing to do with physical appearance. So, it's possible that this family was part of a sect that has a more liberal interpretation of their church laws.

However, when one thinks about it---why not WDW (except the whole popular culture thing---but to each Amish family their own...)

(1)They don't own the mechanical rides
(2)They really aren't operating them
(3)They aren't driving themselves
(4)They can still adhere to personal/religous dress codes

Interesting.....
