I was on the Aug. 18 Wonder and had added on the Amex White Gloves Parks and Ports package after booking my land/sea package at some savings through Costco (heard about both from the DIS boards). I paid about $82 to add on the Amex package, and it required phone calls to Amex, Costco, and DCL. DCL finally added it on. Because I added it on only a few weeks prior to our trip, I had to ask for it when we checked into the resort. Everything listed on the Amex site was included, including the $250 on-board credit, lanyards, beach-chair bag, etc. We especially enjoyed the semi-private safari tour with guide in Animal Kingdom and the VIP seating at the Motor Cars parade at Disney/MGM studios. In addition there was a "flex" option so we got a free character breakfast, including tax and gratuity, at the Beach Club. It was well worth the price paid.
On the other hand, I had also heard about the Castaway Club on this board. We had done the land/sea package in 2000, and although we never received any CC info in the mail, I assumed it was because we moved overseas right after that vacation. I called CC and obtained my CC number (yes, there was one), and then gave it to Costco to add to the reservation. Although I wasn't really expecting to get yet another onboard credit and I hadn't booked this cruise from the ship on the previous cruise or within 6 months of it, I thought I might at least get some recognition for returning to Disney vs another line, such as the beach towel or an invitation to the Captain's sail-away party but there was absolutely nothing. I followed up on the beach towel with both guest services (who flatly told me "no" since I hadn't booked this cruise within 6 months of the previous one) and our stateroom host, who diligently asked his manager about it but this time the reason given was that I had already received the Amex beach-chair bag. So I guess the point is, they do not give out those beach towels frivolously, and the Castaway Club exists but don't let their memory of you get too "old and cold"!
