Amex Small Business Saturday

I bought $10 gift cards from a bunch of local eateries! That's what I do every year!

Now that's a great idea! DUH! :) By dinner time, we were tired of "eating" out since it's just the three of us, lol. :rotfl: I'll definitely remember this next year and it helps with Xmas gifts as well and then the local businesses get repeat business as well.

Like a few of you, we ran into one that no longer takes Amex but luckily I commented first before ordering I wanted to split in $10 increments due to Small Business Saturday and he politely advised me they no longer took Amex. We have visited this Italian market every year since the promo started so they only recently decided not to take Amex so the website wasn't updated yet. It happens, unfortunately.

We had fun yesterday checking out the local cafes, cupcake places, local restaurants etc but man we were exhausted and sick of food!

We went to 5 places that were on the list. One was closed and their hours weren't on the door so we don't know if they are normally closed for Saturday or what. :confused3 Three of the places didn't know anything about Small Business Saturday. The one place we shopped at, who knew about SBS, gave us a SBS tote bag for shopping there. We had fun, too, but it is frustrating if they take the card and don't know anything about SBS!

It got email confirmations that I was going to get a $10 refund for each of three places we shopped.

The business doesn't need to know about SBS for the promo to work. If they are a small business and accept Amex you will get the $$ from Amex.
 
I also had multiple AMEX cards registered and received email after using the first one 3 times. I went to another store on the list, made 3 separate purchases, and did not receive the email. I double checked the list and the store had been removed somewhere between when I made the list Wed and yesterday. I have contacted AMEX and they are researching, the rep stated they have had MANY complaints regarding the same.

Amex needs a better system. I found trying to find places on their website to be very tedious. I think a sign at check out would have been helpful. I did hear them mention it in two of the stores I was in. And some of the places listed were odd--like Red Robin. I guess it's probably franchised.

Don't know if we are just out of luck for the third place or what. Has anyone NOT gotten the email but still got the $10 credit? I don't know if I should call American Express and ask or just wait and see if the credit appears?

I did 13 total purchases, I see conf. for 12 in my inbox...so far haven't check actual statements... but I have screenshots of each place I visited from their ad page for the day, so hope it all goes thru!:cool1: I got 3 novels, fabric+notions for projects,6 pk of local made soda,2 lbs. coconut flour,2lbs honey,3 burts bees lip balms, organic teabags,a vodka+shotglasses gift set, a lb. of bakery GF cookies:thumbsup2,2 designer skirts,plus some vintage jewelry- (I probably spent 10-15 in excess of actual refund, but that's ok,books can get pricey)
I will check later in week to see my status....

I did end up using the chat feature on their website since their phone line said that they were experiencing high call volume and if it wasn't an emergency to call back in 24 hours. The lady I chatted with assured me that since our cards were registered that we would receive the credit even though we didn't get the confirmation emails. She said they would be posted within 90 days. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

I've always had great luck with Amex's customer service. Hopefully you'll get your credits without any hassle.

Same thing happened to me - I got 2 emails on my first shop, one on the second and none on the third. I wrote it off to the emails just not working right. None of my transactions have actually posted yet - will have to wait for that to see if I get the credits correctly. But I'm not too stressed about it.
 
I got instant emails on all 6 of our transactions. I have credits for 2 of them so far. Last year it took weeks, and I had to email them, but I did finally get my credit. Hopefully they show up faster this year.
 
I am at the office, will check when I get home. Glad everyone is getting their credits!
 
I only had 2 of them this morning, but I just checked again and all 6 are now there :)
 
I got two emails out of the 6 I should have received and only one $10 credit so far. In the past this has been the offer that I have had delays in receiving. I will wait and just call later if they don't show up within 90 days.
