Canadians, how are you taught about the War of 1812? Are you taught that it was a draw or clear win for Canada? As I said in an earlier post, we are taught that it was a draw (with negative set backs for non-whites). This Smithsonian article was interesting as it gives a British vs American perspective on the war.

I have an ancestor that fought for the USA in the war, so I’m curious if you have an ancestor who fought in the war or Napoleonic Wars does it affect your perspective on the event?
The XYZ Affair/ Quasi War (around the French Revolution/Napoleonic Era) is barely mentioned in high schools here in the USA. I assume that’s the same amount of relevance it gets in Canada (even though Canada/Britain were slightly affected by it). Curious to hear your perspective on the event and how you were taught.
