I’m curious and I’m not saying this to be critical, have you been to a pro game live before?

What I mean is that being in person at a game 9 out of 10 times has made my non soccer friends into appreciated casual informed soccer watchers. You have a local CPL team in your area.C'mon Buzz, I have given you even the slightest reason to believe I have?
A huge number of Canadian kids already play organized soccer; far more than hockey and massively more than baseball, football or basketball. It’s a great sport that’s affordable and accessible for both boys and girls of all shapes and sizes, and I think that’s lovely. What I mean is that being in person at a game 9 out of 10 times has made my non soccer friends into appreciated casual informed soccer watchers. If you went to a game and still think it’s boring, I respect that. But international WCQ are like nothing else on the planet.
When the World Cup comes to Canada, I predict hockey fans will become local supporters of their MLS/CPL teams. More kids in sports is a good thing.![]()
Totally fine with that and I agree. All I’m saying is there maybe a shift in Canada on the sport’s following post World Cup 2026. Sometimes I wonder though, if some on this board judge soccer without watching a single game (not directed at anyone).A huge number of Canadian kids already play organized soccer; far more than hockey and massively more than baseball, football or basketball. But nothing - nothing, will compel me to see a pro game and honestly, I live a fairly rich and productive life without it. Don’t take it personally; I’ll never watch hockey or football or MMA or NASCAR either. We don’t all have to like the same things.
I did once see a poll several years ago that said fans hockey were most likely to also become fans of soccer. So I do wonder when the World Cup comes to North America in 2026, how many in the USA and Canada will become permanent fans of the sport after seeing a game in person or if that is just a dream scenario?Anyway, every game Canada wins helps the USA in WCQ.

What about attendance in the CPL since they want to expand to 16 teams? Not likely to happen. Canada is a big place and there will be limited cities hosting games. The casual fan is not likely to travel to see a game.
We hosted the Women's U21 World Cup and the Women's World Cup in back to back years. I don't think there was that big a jump in soccer fans.

Yeah we have the same problem here in the USA with paramount plus. It’s ironic that your national team will be shown in the USA on Telemundo but most won’t be able to see the USMNT on TV Tuesday without a subscription to Paramount Plus.Hard to say given that many teams faced restrictions on how many people were allowed in the stadiums for part of the year.
Part of the problem is One Soccer, the entity created by the CPL and Soccer Canada to broadcast games. This is a subscription service so unless you are a fan now, you aren't going to subscribe. If you don't subscribe you are not going to become interested in the game. It was a very short-sighted moved on their part.
Sure, but to be fair, your county’s media made the games a big deal. This thread has not really moved along lately, so I’m partly trying to reenergize it.I’m starting to think you get a commission every time you get two eyeballs to watch a game. Can we please get this off soccer? I get that you’re an enthusiastic fan, and that’s great, it’s awesome to have things you’re passionate about, but, it’s a little repetitive when it’s brought up over and over again on non soccer threads.
We know you’re a fan, you know we’re not, so how about we just leave each other to like what we like?
I really am trying to say all this as nicely as possible.

Are you a Mod? No, you don't get a say in what someone else posts.......carry on.
Well, OK then. Canadian/American cultural differences it is.So bring something else up.

This past Thursday was Remembrance Day here in Canada. My nephew who lives in Portland just happened to be here; he hasn't been in Canada on a Remembrance Day for 6 years. He commented on how our observance of this very solemn day is "next level" compared to American Veteran's Day. Discuss.

So as I'm sitting here eating chili from the crock pot on this cold day what's chili like up in Canada, well assuming that is also eaten there.
The chili recipe we use calls for quite a bit of chili powder (will def. help clear out your sinuses lol) and a bit of coffee. Step-father-in-law doesn't like beans used in his. My mom made her chili with kidney beans but we make ours with pinto (though kidney beans would be fine too).
Memorial Day is celebrated like Remembrance Day here in the USA. Veteran’s Day is similar but it focuses more on those who have served or currently serving. We still honor the fallen but that is more focused on Memorial Day. We spilt the holiday into two days after WW2 due to reasons concerning later on wars.Well, OK then. Canadian/American cultural differences it is.
