American using Canadian discount...

Some people have no conscience about cheating the system. That is why you have people yelling at CMs demanding they honor the price. They are "entitled" to that price because the webpage let them book it and the fine print didn't smack them up the side of the head. :rotfl:

So all you are doing is taking up availability from true Canadian who want to use their discount.
That's a great point because as of right now there is one less room available at whatever resort the OP reserved under the Canadian Free Dining discount, when they shouldn't have been allowed to reserve it and it should have gone to a family from Canada.

Ok before I'm flamed for asking this I'm not trying to beat the system was just hoping somebody here could help if not then I'll call Disney and ask, I'm going to be in the states due to hubby being in the forces from start of next yr and often we get posted back at short notice, I want to book our holiday but don't know wether to book it now with no flights before we move or to book when over in the states my worry is....if I book in the states with the current address we will have there and then we move back to England before the holiday and I get discount because I'm in the states at time of booking will I then have to pay at check in as I will have a British address again! ??? Help as I'm stuck We hopefully will still be out their but in that job you never know :confused3

Just keep an ID or piece of mail to prove what your address was at the time. You will have to change your address with Disney anyway to get your Disney mail. I don't think that would cause you to loose your discount.

I don't see any fine print that says I have to be Canadian to take this special offer, it simply doesn't show up unless you are on the site that is geared towards Canadians. With the AP discount or the Florida Resident discount or the Military discount they make very clear that you must provide proof of having an annual pass or being a Florida resident or being in the military. I'm sure it's a matter of time before this thread is cut out, but I do want to say that while I am taking advantage of the system with this, I am usually an honest person. I don't think it's right for Disney to offer a discount like this online unless it is available to everyone. If no other discount comes available to me and I do end up having to pay the rack rate, I'm not really any worse off than I would have been anyway. If a comparable discount I can legitimately use comes out, I can rebook with it.

It quite clearly states Canada RESIDENTS. That means if you're not a resident of Canada, you're not entitled to the discount. That's like me deciding I'm entitled to the Florida resident discount and so I'm just going to take it, just because I don't think it's right that someone else get a discount if I don't .

It is the same thing when I book with a government discount at a hotel; it allows me to book it, but when I arrive I have to show my government PICTURE I.D.

You cannot just present any old I.D.; they are going to ask you for a PICTURE I.D. with a Canadian address on it when you arrive.

If you wish to stay, they will quote you the highest rack rate for that season.

You have not only cheated another Canadian out of getting the discount they deserve, you are going to end up with a costly vacation when you could have booked a legitimate room discount or free dining for those who live in the U.S.

Yeah, but...she's usually an honest person!

My whole point is that no where on the website does it say you have to be a Canadian resident to take that particular offer.

Oh for the love of *choose your deity*!!!! Do YOU live in Canada? Is it a discount for people who DO live in Canada? There ya go.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. I just want to know if anyone else has ever done this.

I would say that the majority of people understand what country they live in and which discounts are appropriate for them.

I can only give you my experience. I booked that offer the day it came out, not knowing it was a Canadian offer until later. I called Disney to change something on my reservation, and asked specifically about it and if there would be problems ect. The first person I spoke to said absolutely not, you've already booked it, no problem, they won't ask for a Canadian ID ect. However, they couldn't change anything on my reservation, so they had to get me to guest services. I spoke to a lady there, and again asked specifically about all of it, and she gave me her name ect., and said there wouldn't be a problem, but she had to figure out how to change what I needed changed and she'd call me back. A couple days later, she called back, and change what I needed changed and she again said it would be no problem, it was Disney's fault for allowing the US addresses ect., and the fact that nowhere on the online booking does it say anything about needing to be a Canadian. She gave me her name and told me there'd be no problems when checking in.

Honestly, if they come out with free dining for US (which I'm sure they will,) and I remember and have time, I'll probably cancel my Canadian reservation and book again, just to feel better, but having said that we just returned from Disney and could have booked the bounceback, but I never got around to it, so I must not be that concerned.;)

ETA: By the way, the only way I learned it was a Canadian offer, was from the disboards. If I wasn't on here ect., I would have never known.

Speaking as a Canadian I'm not happy about this cheat on the system...and yes I do feel it is that...a cheat. I would never even think of trying to use the Florida rates to book my room. For years I have been paying hundreds of more dollars to visit WDW due to the interest rate. I was happy to see the Canadian rates. These have been offered in the past and we have used them. Both times we were asked to show proof. You may be able to get away with this but it doesn't makebit right. Just my two cents.

Thank you so much! I knew I was going to get bashed when I started this thread, but I did want to know if anyone else had noticed that it doesn't say you have to be Canadian. I had hoped someone had spoken to Disney about this after booking.

brockash booked without realizing that it was a Canadian offer, that's completely different than knowing ahead of time that you're trying to cheat the system. You're bound and determined to cheat and proclaim all the while that you're usually an honest person. Well, I beg to differ, you are NOT honest. I give up, I reported your post because it's against DIS policy to post about beating Disney. Hopefully a mod will shut this down before too long. I sincerely hope that you are caught being a liar and a cheat when you check in. And that you at least have the decency to be slightly embarrassed.

Same here. I'll be booking with the Canadian FD offer (I'm a Canadian) and I think I would be saddened if I couldn't get a room and found out it was because a non-Canadian took one 'because she could'.

I can do a lot of things online, but it doesn't mean I should, especially knowingly and in a way that takes from someone else who actually the intended target.
