Hi everybody! I just saw the greatest informercial on American Tourister space bags...you use your vacuum to suck the air of the bags...and it reduces the space that your stuff takes up in your suitcase. You can even use it on your pillow! How cool!!

One question.......just where do you pack your vacuum? I mean wouldn't you need to use it to repack before coming home?

:p
Have a great day everybody!!!

Gimmic...

If you want to pack your stuff in plastic go out and buy Ziploc bags, they come in all sizes. You can easily press the air out of them just before you finish zipping the seal shut.

I hope this helps...

I saw the same commercial and did some looking into the space bags at a local Walmart. I can understand the space saving, but I was worried about how wrinkled clothing items would be. I've heard mentioned here on the boards that they don't prevent wrinkling....a big concern of all travelers.

There are also space bags that do not require a vaccuum, you just roll the air out of them and then seal....sort of like the ziplock bag idea, but much more money!!!

It is amazing how much you can fit in zip-lock baggies !!! Never travel without them....pack almost anything in them.....and...ALWAYS take extras....:sunny:

The government now recommends using clear plastic bags to pack items such as toiletries in as it greatly quickens the amount of time the agents need to inspect the luggage for security. Just a tip, lol.

Be aware that if your luggage gets searched airport security may ask you to open your space bags. Especially if they are packed really tight.

I have used the space bags that do not use a vacume, you just fill the bag then seal with a double zip at the top then roll the bags to force the air out through self sealing vents in the bottom of the bags. I have used them for most clothing, except formal wear and have not had a problem with wrinkling.

I love the ziplock bag idea!!

The spacesaver bags did look like a rip-off...especially since you apparently need a vacuum to use them....I mean, can you imagine telling the airport security person, "Uh, can you wait a second while I unpack my vacuum so that I can repack my suitcase?" I'm sure that would get a person extra brownie points from all the other passengers. :p

Okay...if you see someone pulling out a portable vacuum and sucking the air out of a bunch of spacebags, you'll KNOW it isn't me!

Still ROLFING at this . Must be the cold temps in Atlanta!! My relatives moved from upstate NY to Marietta/Acworth area - and all of a sudden, they have developed this humor that is just tearing me up!
Like I said, it must be the weather - I know it's not the water!

You know...I have relatives in Iowa and they seem to handle the snow, ice, bitter cold with no problems.

Now...us Georgia folks....we DO NOT like snow, ice, or bitter cold...well, I take that back. We like the snow, ice and bitter cold if we are able to shut down the city...otherwise...YUK!

I think I still have some frozen brain cells. I remember sitting huddled over the warmth of my laptop wondering how it could be so darn cold. Thank goodness for the DIS cruiseline trip reports!!! Being transported to Cozumel, Key West, St Johns (or even the terminal at the Port) was just the medicine needed!

I have been using the type of space savers that do not require a vacume. Have not had any problem with wrinkles. The ones that I have are clear - so you can easily see what is in them.

They are really wonderful for return trip - you can stuff all the dirty stuff in them - and have that much more room for stuff to bring home!!

I also used the kind that don't require a vacuum on our last trip and the wrinkles didn't seem any worse than before I used them. When we cruised in August, on our first night I sent everything to be pressed so that I did not have to worry about ironing all week long. I think I spent about $40 and it was worth every penny!

Use the space bags going, and what we do coming back, roll up tight the dirty clothes. We always have a lot more space going home because the clothes are dirty and rolled up tightly. In fact to save packing time on the night before debarkation we roll the dirty clothes each day to keep up on it and shove them into a cabinet in the stateroom. Works perfect. Who cares if dirty clothes are wrinkled. Kathy

was at target last night, they have the travel space bags 3 for 9.99. i've used these before, they're great! especially for kids clothes. i was able to pack both my daughters clothese in one carryon pilot bag. it's a good thing...:Pinkbounc

I've used the big ziplocs several times- they work great! Tshirts, socks, underwear, shorts, toiletries. Pack 'em, roll to squish the air out, and just toss 'em in the suitcase. Makes unpacking in your room a breeze, too. Then any wrinkle-prone stuff gets gently folded on top of the bags, or carried in a hanging bag.

And TecDavidt (Kathy) is right- just roll up the dirties really tight each day, stuff them in the closet, and repacking is quick and compact.

Kathy- have a great time on the Magic in March! I wish we could go with you!
