Yes it will.

I've had a Jap one since Feb/Mar - no bother with it at all :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the US PSP will play all games but not UK DVD movies?

I hope to buy on ewhen in the States in a couple of weeks.

Andy

We bought a PSP in America and you are right does everything but plays UK DVDs.

DH did not put it down during the flight and is never far away from it!!! DD occasionally gets to have a go!!!

Yes,

I am looking at buying PSP in Dec.

So it will play UK games.

Where do you get a charger from.

Are they cheaper in USA than UK, really would like one, DD plays my DS console, is the PSP going to be better.

Cheers for any info

Another question to add, is there a connector to play DVDs from the psp through the tv. Reason I ask is that there is a DVD that I have seen in Disney that I can't find anywhere.

My DS16 refrained from buying one over there because he had read that Sony, when they release the PSP over here, are upgrading the software and also preventing people from using other countries PSPs over here. He also wanted to be able to buy UMD films over here.

It may be worth just checking out this info before you buy. We saw them for about $230 last week.

$230? Thats really cheap. Where did you see that? For that price, I would definately get one. :sunny:

It was the same price wherever we went which was Florida Mall, Downtown Virgin Store and Walmart.

It's not true, Sony are not region locking games at all.

UMD movies are another kettle of fish of course so if you want to watch those you have to consider your options before you buy. The thing is, with the internet you can easily order US UMD films if you so wish.

As for the charger question - All you will need to be able to charge it over here is a figure of 8 cable, you'll most likely have one of these knocking around and just plug it into the charger box you get which then connects with another cable to the PSP.

I don't know about watching the UMD's through the TV - I doubt it is available but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

It will play UK games.

Charger comes with the product but you will need a figure of 8 cable to plug into UK mains - you will most likely have one of these somewhere

The PSP is streets ahead of the DS in my opinion - certainly sound wise and graphically. The range of games available is limited at the moment but this will soon change :)

They are cheaper in the US however, I advise you look out for the 'Value' pack, slightly more than the PSP on it's own but you get a couple of useful bits.

My advice to anyone considering buying films on UMD for a PSP.....Don't.

Buy yourself a bigger MemoryStickDuo, say 1Gb, and then purchase all your movies on regular DVD's - Use some freely available software to convert your DVD's into PSP Format and save them on your memory stick.....then watch the movie on the PSP from that.
This way you :
a) Have the DVD to watch on your regular player/TV/PC
b) Conserve battery power on the PSP due to it not having to spin a disk.
c) Have no region concerns so can buy your PSP where you like.

Of course you are looking at an initial investment of 70 quid or so for a 1gig stick, or half that for a 512Mb (obviously), but you'll soon save that by only buying your films on one format.

I don't know the legalities of doing this, but it is indentical in principle to converting your CD's into MP3 for use on an IPOD or similar.

I got my PSP back in March and it's great :) The only downside I have found is the complete lack of games for it at the moment :(

Currently it's perfectly legal to convert your DVD films and download them for watching on your PSP as long as you own an original copy of the film :) I would agree with TRON that it is wise to buy a 1Gb Memory Stick Duo and download the films onto this rather than buying lots of UMD discs of films.

It's the new handheld games machine from Sony

That also plays films, MP3's, image files and has wireless built in for gaming and net browsing (net browsing reauires a bit of jiggery pokery).

More details HERE

BTW: I picked mine up in April and couldn't be happier with it. I found the service and price best at Game Stop in the Florida Mall.

If you are after the 1GB Memory sticks you can pick up some good non-Sony but work just as well models on E-Bay for about £40 and up.

Ive converted films to my Nokia mobile before, so I dont reckon I will have too many probs converting with the PSP.

Only thing being, for an acceptable quality, how many mins can you fit onto a 1gb mem stick?

Also, when I checked the walmart online site, it states the PSP for $289? :confused3

I think the best price on the value pack can currently be found in Electronics Boutique, I priced it at around £148 recently.....but theres probably better around, try Target etc.

With regards to file size, the example I saw was a single chapter from Terminator 2. I think it lasted about 10 minutes, and my mate only had a 32mb card. The quality was simply stunning, I couldnt fault it whatsoever.

On my PDA I convert divx files down to 320 screen size and a downloaded episode of Family Guy (22 minutes) looks superb at a 60mb file size.

We got our 1gb memorystick from ebay for our digital camera, and we got it for £80, and that was last November.

We got both our 1gb memory stick for digital camera and memory stick for PSP off e:Bay at really good prices.

As said before DH just loves his PSP and was well pleased to get it over in US before it came out here.
