American price increase?

My husband and I bought our flights out about a month ago from Chicago O'Hare and they were 209.00 each. We've invited his sister to come with us and today the same flights are 360.00? What gives? Do the prices ever come down after they go up like that? I don't understand it.

It's called supply and demand

They will charge what they feel the market will bear. They will continue to drop the price until it hits a point where people will start buying or raise it if there is a high demand.

It also has to do with how close to travel date you buy - the closer it gets (2 weeks for sure) the higher it goes
