What I heard last year was that Gokey's hometown pastor, mad that Danny was eliminated, and wanted Kris to win because he didn't approve of Adam's lifestyle, so he converted Gokey's fans into Kris fans, hence one reason why he won.

I agree! But mostly because they generally do a very good job technically with the commercial, production wise - not music wise.

i highly doubt a group of people in one town was the reason that Adam lost. more like....he wasn't as good as he thought he was, so people didn't vote for that reason.

I doubt that was the reason Adam lost too, but I think he is great. He's got a very good new song out right now. Daughtry didn't win and he put out hit after hit. Whatshisname who won that season has never been heard from again. (At least by me)
