American Idol Thread

I'm guessing she probably was reading notes she wrote during rehearsal. But she's just so slow she didn't know what was going on.

My first thought on Paula last night...SCRIPTED!!!!
It could be either of these. Paula basically doomed Jason on his 2nd song.

WAAAAAAY overPAID!!! :lmao: Considering she's a better dancer than she'll EVER be a singer.. she needs to pass the job on to a real singer.
I was listening to the 80's station on XM the other day and they played a Paula song. She is definitely a manufactured singer.....sort of like Paris Hilton. :scared:

She really needs to make up a better excuse. Her critique of Jason's second song was very negative. How could she have been reading what she wrote about David Cook? Her critique of him was positive????? :confused3
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! :thumbsup2

Jason was just plain bad last night. David C's first song was good and the 2nd one was fantastic! David A was once again B-O-R-I-N-G! Brooke's first song was a mess, but I kind of liked the 2nd song. Syesha did a lot better than usual. Her 2nd song was pretty good.

Tonight might have a shocker elimination....again.

The whole show is starting to annoy me. I can't stand the weeks of mentors and only being able to sing those songs. 1 or 2 weeks of that is fine but come on - who even listens to these people anymore. And the judges kept saying how they want the contestants to change up the song and make it more thier own but then when David A sings his songs he sounds very close to the original and doesn't seem to change it to make it his own but the judges fall all over praising him, putting him up on a pedestal - gag me!!! The show is really becoming a joke!!

But, without this show we probably never would have been introduced to the talents of David Cook. Regardless of the outcome (which is so fixed) he has gotten enough exposure now to have a fantastic career, so thank you American Idol :thumbsup2

There is no evidence that the results are fixed -- no reason to believe that they are fixed.

I'll add my Aussie babee and I totally agree. They made my YEAR!!! :thumbsup2 I listen to their music over and over and over and never tire of it. I thank you AI for introducing me to MAVID!!

I thought David Cook was awesome last night! Especially that second song-he could totally have a hit with that one.
Plus, he has such a great smile. :cloud9:

I thought Brooke was horrible in her first song. She did look terrified!

I wish Jason would take it more seriously. I want to vote for him-but then I dont.

I cant believe who is in first place on DialIdol.com, but I am glad my pick is #2.

After Paula's BLUNDER last night, I have lost what little respect I had for the show.

I hope Jason gets out of there tonight, he's a lot better off without Idol.

WHAT A JOKE!!!
I agree. At least before last night I could PRETEND it wasn't fixed. Now...:confused3 why bother voting. It doesn't matter anyway. :confused3

Paula's blunder doesn't provide any reason to believe that anything is fixed. Perhaps Paula should be, but that's neither here nor there.

To tell the truth I was a little shocked...nay offended when Paula called David A "my little savant". I KNOW what the word really means, but right out of the gate it conjured up images of Rain Man.
I'm glad I missed that comment. Not a very nice term to use.

Just my opinion - but to me it does. Otherwise how can someone critique a song that hasn't been sung. :confused3 Especially in such a negative way.

:thumbsup2 That's true. Thanks for the MAVID LOVE. AI.

Dialidol has Syesha in the top spot! Weirdness prevails...
Oh well, as long as Brooke goes home I'll be happy!

Here are Paula's comments about last night from the Insider:

Just in: PAULA ABDUL talks exclusively to "The Insider" about her misunderstanding on Tuesday night's "American Idol" performance show!

Discussing the small slip of the tongue she experienced while assessing finalist JASON CASTRO's first performance, Paula explains: "It got very confusing ... the producers come up to us in the dark and said, 'We are not going to have you guys judge after each performer, we are going to have all the performers go once, then twice and at the end critique them.'"

Surprised by the last minute switch in judging procedures, Paula recounts, "I am feverishly trying to write notes for every performance."

And when host RYAN SEACREST asked the judges to quickly sum up the performances, Paula explains that she was trying organize her notes, saying, "I was trying to give my critique for Jason Castro, and scribbled Jason's name, and that was DAVID [COOK]'s! ... We all just screwed up everything." She adds with a laugh: "This is live television. This is fun!"

There is nothing funny about it Paula!!! This could of hapened to any of the contestants and quite frankly it stunk. I applaud Jason for even singing that second song - image how hard that must have been to already know what is going to be said and you didn't even perform yet.

She really needs to make up a better excuse. Her critique of Jason's second song was very negative. How could she have been reading what she wrote about David Cook? Her critique of him was positive????? :confused3

Exactly - PAULA - we don't buy your explanation at all.

That was what I said too, she said his second perfomance lacked charm and charisma, then she says wait that's Davids notes, then she tells David his fantastic?!?!?!

I've never understood why people say that Jason is NOT taking AI seriously. According to his family, yes he is. Is it just because he's got a laid-back attitude??? Again, his family says "that's Jason, he's always been like that."

I listened to an interview with Carly the other day and she said that Jason is always practicing in his room. He learned the ukele in one week so he could play it..........I see nothing but someone trying his best, oh well!!

"Fixed" implies that the result is not a reflection of the votes. Nothing about Paula's blunder has anything to do with the counting of the votes.

The judges have mentioned before that they sometimes see the rehearsals (though Simon claims he never does). Maybe they should preclude Paula, so she doesn't get confused again.

I mentioned before which (new) artists I'd like to see the finalists sign. I just came up with another one: I'd like to see Jason sing Jack Johnson... I think that's really his type of music.

I don't think the show is fixed, per say...I just think the judges say things in an attempt to sway votes.

For example, I think Simon bashed Syesha last night in an attempt to get her MORE votes. Because that's what america tends to do.

I agree, I don't know what's going to happen tonight but I do know that a lot of the other contestants fans have been posting all day on Jason's threads saying they threw him some votes last night because of Paula-gate.

I still think Jason will go home even though I just re-listenend to his performances from last night and they weren't bad at all - it was the songs, I didn't like anyone singing Neil Diamond songs last night.

I don't think anyone can sing Neil Diamond songs well in a 2008 context.

When Syesha sings, I get a mental picture of her practicing each facial expression, wink, raised eyebrow, hip swing, etc, in front of a mirror over and over as if she was in a high school play. She'd be good on the stage, but not a stage touring as as singer. Nope, she needs to be in musicals, etc. She's an actress/singer and not so much a singer, IMHO.

"I'm a Believer" by Brooke was a train wreck. :rotfl2: I told DH that if I went upstairs and got one of DD's Barbies with curly hair.....she actually has one that comes with a guitar.....and imitated a little girl pretending to make my Barbie sing, it would be Brooke all over again. Picture a Barbie, with long curly blonde hair, stiffly popping/hopping up and down "singing" that song. ACK! The horror! :lmao:

It was really bad. I much prefer the Shrek version.
