Yea,
some of the pros stunk up the joint, I never did figure out what the words were to Mariah Carey's number. And, yeah, I know she has a freak high to her voice, but it doesn't matter...I still CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE WORDS. Minnie Ripperton was better in those high registers anyway. Barbara Cook could give a master class to Ms. Carey in how to sing high notes and have the audience
enjoy it.
They didn't just change "Shout to the Lord" up, they massacred it.
I am never been so peeved about an AI performance. There are plenty of inspirational songs they could have chosen that don't mention "Praise to the King" and "The mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of His Name" and, oh yes, of course, the title...
SHOUT TO
THE LORD.
They changed quite a few of the words, took out "My Jesus, my Savior", but then left "Lord" in...maybe AI thought folks would think it was about someone else if they tinkered with the words? They could have used "When You Walk Through a Storm" OR, hey here's an idea.
How about the finale music for IllumiNations...
WE GO ON. Now,
THAT would probably been truly inspiring.
Ugh, truly craptastic. I'm with you though - glad my faves did well and am liking David Cook more and more.
AI made a clear commercial choice to
try to pull in contemporary Christian & gospel fans and maybe they think they should pay a little more attention to a huge market and throw a sop to the fans of that music genre.
Didn't work for me.
