American Idol Season 9 Thread

I'm happy to see Casey James and Katelyn Epperly both made it through. They both have such distinct styles. I can't wait to see what they can do. :)

I was super happy to see Todrick Hall make it through! He was not on the spoiler list of pics I had seen so I was bummed because I really liked him. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to see him go through!! :cool1:

I hate not knowing their names. I was super glad the guy with the longish blond hair (who took off his shirt during auditions) made it through. And I was jumping up and down for joy when witchy I-think-I'm-something-special Mary was sent home with her group. I was 100% positive they were going to give her a spot in the top 24. I hated her attitude. I really hope the girl who played her guitar and harmonica gets a spot.

Someone said they didn't like listening to all the stories behind the contestants, I'm just the opposite. I love hearing them. It makes them stand out more and I remember them better.

And I'm anxious to see if a certain guy really does get to stay, or is really kicked off like several news stations reported a couple weeks or so ago. I would think it is true if stations reported it, but some here think it's just a rumor. So, time will tell on that.

I'm hoping this year grows on me. :confused3

I too was cheering when Mary went home...see had a bad attitude and thankfully the judges saw that...

Not that I thought Mary was a good singer (I didn't) but I'd be very disappointed if the judges were basing their judgments on how much they liked the contestants. That seems really shallow to me. I want the judges to be picking contestants based on the ones that would be most likely to best entertain us during the competition rounds, and/or (at least) based on those who best epitomize a popular music "idol". I know of a lot of pop idols who's attitude isn't renown... in a way, lack of a dynamic personality is more of a problem in the business than a bad attitude.

They pick the contestants on LOTS of criteria I don't agree with, one being the plants and the other having one per genre. UGH! They have TYPEs every year, which I understand because they want the numbers but why not have just the BEST performers??? :confused3

I do understand some of the quota stuff -- imagine if they happened to have an all-white Top 24 -- they'd be ripped to shreds, even if they claimed that it just so happened that the best 24 were all white. I suspect something similar applies with regard to genre: If they have no one competent enough to sing rock, then the show will get trashed on that account. If they didn't have anyone representing country music, then they'd get trashed on that account. So I think you need to look at the quota stuff not as "them picking based on bad criteria sometimes" but rather as "them being forced by a generally vicious general public and its media to pick based on bad criteria sometimes".

If AI did that there wouldn't be an even number of men/women...

agnes!

Thanks, Robin. :)

I did know "certain guy's" name, but didn't say it because last time I did someone got upset with me. :(

well I don't think they are having a rocker chic this year.

The rumor is still circulating, I think AI lives on "mystery", it makes people come back.

That rumor is more topical than Mike's wife having a baby... btw, he IS the first person in history to have a baby, wasn't he????? :rolleyes1

As much as I would like to know who the rest of the final 24 are, I am not going to watch tonight. Last night was a waste of time and I don't want to spend another hour tonight with AI. I'd rather watch the Olympics. I'll wait till next week to see who all made it through or read all of your comments. That will be more entertaining anyway! :rotfl:

I agree! I thought last night was enough time to do everything, not spread it out to tonight too!!
I am also watching olympics tonight:thumbsup2

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT NIGHT OF THEIR LIVES.

Next Tuesday will be THE MOST IMPORTANT NIGHT OF THEIR LIVES.

In two weeks it will be THE MOST IMPORTANT NIGHT OF THEIR LIVES.

In three weeks it will be....

Technically that IS true. That particular night is the most important...and when it's over, if that person survives, the next round IS the most important night of their lives.

Have they shown the Girl with the wacky glasses sing yet??
She keeps talking about how horrible she did.
