American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

It is amazing that these men are the supposedly the best from the thousands upon thousands that auditioned.

Well, a lot of people don't think they are the best. For the last several seasons, there have been accusations that the producers pick a certain person they want to win during the Hollywood auditions, and then eliminate anyone who might be good enough to beat them.

So the contestants consist of one or two favorites, and a bunch of mediocre people that are sure to lose.

I never heard that, but I do believe it after last night!

Sundance HAS to go. Maybe he can sing (he did all right in the first audition) but he can't do it under pressure or in front of an audience. He also reminds me of the guy who works for me...a real bumpkin (but a good fella).

Sanjaya I had such hopes for, but his youth and inexperience is showing. I wonder if his sister was trying to sabotage him since he said she sent him the song?

ALL the other guys were so uninteresting and forgettable (except Blake, the 2 Chris's and Phil who at least has an "AWWW" backstory).

Does anyone else think that ALL of the contestants are fairly average-unattractive? There is not one drool worthy guy and DH says the girls are the same.

Blake is cute and so is Chris R, but where are the Daughtry's and Ace's???

I never really watch AI until the final rounds at the end. But this time I'm actaully getting into it. My picks for the guys are Blake, Chris S., and Chris R.

2 hours of my life I'll never get back. Seriously, aside from Blake (my new favorite), not one of them had any right sucking up my precious TV-viewing time.

Maybe I don't remember these weeks from last year - is it always so bad? I know I have Taylor's MP3s from early last season and they were beyond great. And wasn't Chris' "Wanted" from one of these first weeks? Who are these people? Has the well run dry?

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but Chris S. lost a lot of my respect last night. That was pretty uncalled for. If you're going to stand and sing in front of a judge, you had better be ready to be....guess what? JUDGED! Simon is right - why lie? If the recording artists coming off of this show are to have any credibility, these judges had better be honest. It would have been one thing for Chris to respectfully disagree, but to lash back with some real personal insults, was uncalled for. He needs to get a grasp of this judge-contestant relationship real soon.

But I don't think I'll be rushing home from church tonight to catch this show. Maybe I'll record it and skim through it later, but I don't have 2 hours to spend on this again.

Hey, thanks for letting me vent!

Your post actually made me go back and look at my AI notes from last season. (Yes, it's official. I'm a total AI geek. ) During the very first show we were treated to Chris singing Wanted Dead or Alive, Ace singing Father Figure, Elliott singing If You Really Love Me, and Taylor singing Levon. These were great performances right off the bat. If you add in the girls' first performances, we also had Paris singing Midnight Train to Georgia and Mandisa singing Never. There were no performances last night that came close to any of those, even the couple I liked.

I voted for Blake, whom I enjoyed a lot. Of course, I really like Somewhere Only We Know so he had a definite advantage with me on that one. I also voted for Chris Sligh, who was good. I sort of recognized that song he sang. Who's the original artist on that one? Although I didn't vote for them, I think Brandon has a good voice and was just shaky. I hope he makes it through to next week. Jared was pitchy and shaky to me, but comes across as very poised and does have a pleasant voice so hopefully he'll be back too. The other eight could all go home as far as I'm concerned.

Vote for the Worst is going to have a hard time this season. They have SO many choices!

Edited to Add: I see from the other thread that VFTW has already selected Sundance as their choice. Based on last night's performance, I can't really argue with them. Too bad though, his original audition was really good. Hopefully he'll go back to that bluesy style.

Boy last night was a bummer.

Maybe I am spoiled after last year. I remember loving so many male performances last year-CHRIS, Ace, Bucky, Elliott, Taylor.
Simon's comment at the end about no one nailing it like Chris Daughtry did last year with "Wanted Dead or Alive" was right on point.

There is absolutely no male doing it for me this year.

I gave my votes to Blake, I thought he was the best of the worst.
I liked Chris Sligh's song, but I thought it was a little too early for him to be lashing out at the judges. He has proven himself yet to be that cocky. He is funny, but I think he took it too far last night. It was awkward to watch.

Phil-not pleasant to look at. Bald does not work for him. If he is trying to be my Chris Daughtry, he is failing miserably! Love the bat boy comparison!!

I think Brandon is a hottie but he's the only one. No one else is very attractive IMO. My favorite is Chris Sligh and he's certainly no eye candy.

Bleh. This season really stinks so far. Even the auditions were boring. Poorly edited. Not one person that was interesting in the auditions made it to the 24 except Chris Sligh. They spent all this time doing backgrounds on people that we never saw in Hollywood week, or were promptly axed in Hollywood week. We are left with 23 (everyone but Chris S.) people that are unattractive, boring, average singers, that we have NEVER seen before. I could care less about any of them. Last night was a major waste of my limited TV watching time. I still like Chris S. I think he will get more talented working with the coaches, but his "humor" was a little premature and annoying last night when he was throwing digs at Simon. I still think they should be in the "sucking Up" stage. Sanjaya is a little creepy in a Michael Jackson kinda way, and he was a little flippant with Simon too.

My favorite last night was Nicholas Pedro. I thought Randy was hard on him, and since Paula NEVER thinks for herself, she just repeated whatever Randy said, then Simon said it was pretty good. He has a smooth voice, and he is the only one that is remotely attractive. It still wasn't enough for me to haul myself over to the phone to vote though.

I'm gonna have to get my Pepto Bismol ready for tonight when the girls sing. I still can't believe they let Antonella through, but cut Bailey Brown.

I'm also annoyed by how many people are rejects from previous years...surely there are some other people out there who can sing? Also annoyed with how many professional singers are in the competition. I pull for the guys like Sundance who work in machine shops, that is what the contest is about to me.

Add me as another one who is really disappointed in this year's contestants.

We sure did get spoiled last year - the entire top 10 were really good singers with some unique voices - this year, NADA!!!

I liked Blake last night the best.

I'll continue to watch because I've watched every year but I'll probably not vote a whole lot this year like I did last year.

Wow, you are an AI geek :rotfl2: :rotfl2: But I'm so glad you are because, was I ever right! I do remember last year's first show being HOT right out of the gate. In fact, those were among the very best performances of the whole season. Some made it to the CD, some were repeated in concert, and Taylor repeated Levon in the final competition.

Totally breaking my "let's stick to Season 6" rule here, and I aplogize. But after last night, who can blame me????

Our favorites last were Blake and Phil. I liked Chris Sligh's performance, but I just did not like how it went with the judges. I doubt it will hurt him as far as voting goes, but it was just weird. I guess he was trying to just be funny/witty it just came across as being waaaaaay to nasty.

Lets hope for a better night tonight!!! :)

did they get to choose their own songs last night?

and was is the deal with spoilers...what are we allowed to post and not post? We've always done the posting as you watch bit and Dial Idol isn't really a spoiler as I didn't think they got each week correct last year did they?

While I haven't lost respect for Chris S. I do agree that you don't really want to make the judges mad at you at this point in the game. But Ryan Seacrest was doing his best to bait every contestant, trying to get them to talk back to the judges. Some took it and others kept there heads about it. While Chris was funny, he did not use good judgement last night.

My favorites were Chris S, Phil and Blake. I was disappointed in Sundance and would like to see him get one more chance. The barefoot guy needs to find another good luck charm.

My 16 year old daughter liked Blake, Chris R. and was impressed that AJ had tried out five times (I think that the one). She didn't care for Sunjaya and thinks he really needs to do something with his hair. :rotfl:

Not impressed at all!! Not ONE of these guys can hold a candle to Chris Daughtry last year - and Simon pretty much said so.

Let's hope the girls can show us something tonight. Up until now, Season 3 was the most disappointing for me.

Let's hope this year isn't a repeat!!:sad2:

Ok... so I was the only one who noticed how unnaturally tight Ryan Seacrest's jeans were last night?? It was like a train wreck! I couldn't look away! :scared1:

::yes:: i can't tell you how many times last year I sat down on results night prepared to say goodbye to Elliott, since DialIdol was predicting him to go, just to have him stick around. They are not always correct.

Yeah you know how much that played with my emotions....excited....to pissed...

According to USA Today the Idol alum coming back tonight is (and yes, I'll make this a spoiler in white just in case ;)) Fantasia. She's also going to promote her new role in The Color Purple on Broadway.

Thanks! I was hoping it wasn't ...uh nevermind..:happytv:
