American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

I can't believe it was only an hour tonight! I am not home tomorrow night and have no way to tape it. That stinks, becos I really wanted to see NY. Boooooo!
I wish they had shown more of the other 22 people who got through tonight. Some of them looked pretty interesting.

.......thank Bush for that. he's GOTTA take a whole hour to talk. i don't even get why. he just says the same damn thing 50 times, never talks about anything else but Iraq or war.

I would like to! I love him - his myspace page has a few of his solo songs on it and they are REALLY good! Especially "Stories from Hollywood" and "Turn to Grey"

I just bought the full album on Itunes and he's so much better than he was on Idol

Hey, State of the union speech? I'd love Simon to show up and tell him to go home!!:rotfl2:

Doesnt the president know that American idol is bigger than him.....we would rather watch Idol then some boring speech....Hey George let Simon come do your speech it would be way more interesting.....George you are my Prez and I support you but you are no American Idol

i don't know when they start. i usually only watch the auditions anyway. last year was the only year i actually watched a whole season. and even then i was just paying more attention to Ace than anything else.

I really liked the guy with the new baby. He started out kind of rough, but he seems like a nice guy, I hope he does well.

Strange night though, the people they are letting through!

One hour isn't long enough for me!

I found last night's episode to be not as nasty as week one. Yeah they were still raggin on some of the contestants but there didn't seem to be as much venom. I also liked the fact that the horrible to some promise ratio seemed to be more balanced.

Unlike the judges, I liked Frank the cheerleader. But alas, no votes for the general public yet. And who knew that Memphis had it's own language? :rotfl:

OK, now some serious talent but can we embrace an idol named Sundance Head? :confused3 Can I smack Simon for his comment that Mr. Head would "blow Taylor out of the water"? Umm, I don't think so.

We had a sweet young thing who's girls were in town. And during the Burning Love skit the :lmao: moment of the night with that guy pulling a hanky out of his fly. :scared1:  That made me laugh for about an hour.

I enjoyed Shawn, the hairy guy although not to the point the judges did. The background singer was also one of the better talents of the night. She needs some confidence adjusting.

Finally there was the new dad. Except for the marriage/children baggage, he certainly "Looked" like an American Idol. He can thank Chris from last year for doing away with the if you're married, you can't win the ladies hearts mindset. Actually he could probably thank John Lennon for that but I digress. He was quite good but like the rest of last night's talent, no one person blew me away.

Guess we'll have to see if the Big Apple can deliver big talent. My hopes are still set with Birmingham for another Idol winner.

Oh, and as always, JMHO. :teeth:

It sure looked like those girls were going to make an appearance! To me, the funniest thing was Paula demonstrating on her own shirt that the contestant should make an "adjustment". :rotfl:

Who knew Fidel Castro could sing? ;) Should he make it to the top 12, the stylists need to have a field day on him.:scared1:

I love the background singer's voice. (Did anyone catch her name?) She's really wonderful. I hope she can address her confidence issues because she certainly has the talent.

ok, so my heart broke a little for topher. i have to say i had flashbacks when his lower third came up - i once dated a guy with that same exact name, although unless he's put on 100 pounds in the past two years, i'm pretty sure that's not him. anyway, that was a sad piece and i wish simon hadn't said such hurtful things about his divorce. ouch! :headache:

sean michael was a good distraction though, wasn't he! WOW! I'll be keeping an eye on that guy. ten bucks says that once the stylists get at him he ends up being the hottest thing in the competition.

I completely agree. I could see that he has real hottie potential. I really think all of the hair is a gimmick. I didn't believe it - I'll bet it was fake and he just used it to get through.

I hate to say that I missed it last night. I had to make a run to the grocery store as we were out of everything, and I didn't make it home in time since it was only one hour long! I thought I would be able to see the second half of it, but......oh well...........
How many made it through to Hollywood?

I believe they said 22 from Memphis.

I thought Sundance Head was great! I also liked Melinda the back up singer, but I wonder if she's going to bring out that X Factor that helps make an idol.

I didn't really care for the new dad (doesn't there always seem to be a father whose wife JUST gives birth before, during, after the AI auditions any more??). Simon was right, his songs start pretty rough.

Also, if any of you watch So you Think You Can Dance, did you notice that in the preview for NYC Ian Bernardo is back? (He's the guy with the really huge lips). He auditioned for SYTYCD with a big fur coat on in NYC this year. He basically said the same "stuffy British guy" stuff to Nigel. Gotta love doing anything to get on TV!!!! You KNOW it's all an act now that he has done it on 2 Nigel Lithgow shows. I wonder if they're going to bring that up tonight.

Lastly, just adding some love for Chris since there has been a lot of Chris non love in the thread. ;) I hear talk of them using his song "Home" as this year's "Had A Bad Day." That would pretty much be awesome! :)

The background singer was Amanda or Miranda or something like that. Her last name was Doolittle.

Okay, I guess I was wrong about Sean Michel. He really is a long haired dude. I found his Myspace.

Sean Michel Myspace

This picture in on his myspace too. Is it him?

Oh my god, I felt so sorry for Wandera. Did anybody catch her. I can't remember her last name, but she had on a blue shirt and sang some blues type song. They told her she didn't bring anything different to the table and sounded just like everyone else. She really sounded good to me. I really don't get why the judges don't let people like her thru but some of the not so good ones do.

I also thought Sundance and the backup singer girl were awesome.:cool1: We will definately see them in the top 12.

Thanks for sharing that - I'll have to listen to some of his songs once I get home. He's an interesting cat. In the pictures, it shows him in Philly at a bar I used to go to all the time - looks like he's done a lot of touring already.

There's a guy from a Philly sports talk radio station that tried out & I think he may have made it. He probably went to the NY auditions, maybe he'll be on tonight. His name is Mark Farcetta (sp?).

He sang a few times on the radio show & was pretty good. The host kept badgering him with questions as to whether he made it, but he wouldn't say.

I don't know why they can't show more of the singing. Instead of coming back from a commercial break & saying "We're here in Seattle where it's raining" every 5 minutes, they could use that time to show good & bad singers. We've heard all of the insults already too.

Have you ever noticed when they interview someone before their audition that if they say how great they are & the judges are going to be amazed, that they usually are pretty bad?

I've been on the American Idol boards trying to get some more information on who has made it to Hollywood. I really hate that they don't show the auditions for everyone that made it - I think they should. I saw a couple of people come out last night waving yellow slips that I would of liked to hear audition.

Anyway, Sundance must have 10-15 threads already on him - he seems to be the early favorite. Posters/fans or his are already throwing out names to call themselves - SUNDANCERS, etc.

I saw one name mentioned a couple of times - Tom Lowe - he apparently auditioned in Seattle - he's from England - he said he was in a boy band in England at 16, he's now 28. Simon loved him of course since he's from England and they put him through. His audition is on you tube.

I'm ready for tonights show. popcorn::

ETA: how on earth do these auditions get on you tube when they weren't even shown on TV????
