American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Heather sang some Idol group song from last year. Silly choice. :scratchin

Wow, she's even more forgetable than I thought. Who sang Faith Hill? Was it Melissa? That's another forgetable one.

Melissa did sing a song by Faith Hill. She's from Tampa so we're seeing a lot about her and her family down here. :scratchin

All I can say, is after seeing Melissa in the outfit she wore in Hollywood, WHY DIDN'T WE SEE MORE OF HER???? Huh?

Someone made a point of one of the singers singing too low. I think the one thing about singing in a singer's low range, it really exposes their breathing control. The lesser trained singers have serious breathing control issues, which bothers the heck out of me.

Yeah, here in Tampa the Melissa coverage is picking up. Heard her on the radio yesterday morning and of coruse the fox station was with her family last night. Not a huge Melissa fan, but was a huge fan of last year's Tampa girl, Jessica Sierra! (Who was my favorite out of the top 24 last season)

There's a lot of rash judgments made by people in this thread. So, I guess based on the posts here I can deduce that I'm a juvenile teenage girl because I voted for Brenna (when in reality I'm a 25 year old male with glimpses of maturity, lol)

Also, someone didn't like Mandisas song choice. I think it was phenomenal. No need to hear another "diva" belting out a power ballad, I loved the upbeat, rock choice she made.

I also liked Becky's choice. I'm a sucker for "rock chicks" on AI (Kimberly Caldwell was my favorite in Season 2), and so I was big fan of Becky's, I thought she did well.

I found the sound quality overall to be yucky....or maybe it was my TV. It seemed that there was almost an echoey tone to the songs. Either the acoustics weren't that great or like I said, my TV was bad.

I thought that too. It seemed like the music was a lot louder than their voices. :confused3

I was impressed with Paris. I wasn't crazy about her going in, but she did extremely well. I was disappointed with Kellie. Maybe after getting the 'first' time over with she'll get better. Seemed really nervous and out of her league. I was also impressed with Ayla. I was definitely not a fan, but she did impress me. I also liked Kinnik. It seems I'm in the minority about that one. I thought she sounded great. I loved how she looked, very elegant, poised, beautiful. Stevie was just awful. I'm hoping we get another chance to see Heather. Brenna was a disaster. I would have liked to she what she would have done had she not tried to play 'miss nice gal' last night. If she had the right song to match her attitude I think she would hit it out of the park. There is my 2 cents! :teeth:

I thought most of the girls did very well last night. I don't like Brenna the mouthy girl at all. I think the girl who sings Opera and the older girl who sang next to last will go home this week.

Now....onto the guys, can't wait to hear them tonight. GO ACE AND CHRIS!!!

Mandisa all the way! but other than that, not thrilled AT ALL with the girls night. No one really screamed 'idol' last night at all. Maybe it was first night jitters. I also did not care for any of the song choices.

Bye Bye Brenna and Kelly has to lose the poor me attitude and just sing her heart out, let her talent do the talking.

I voted twice for Mandisa last night.
Cant wait for the guys tonight!
Any rumors on what songs some of them may be singing?

Brenna is just too much for me to take. I think the opera singer Stevie will be gone and not sure who else. I thought Pickler really butchered that song and also the twin wasn't that great either. She is a beautiful girl though. Paris was a spitfire...she may have missed some notes but what a performer....I think most everyone was nervous....it's a shame they don't get to all perform on week 1, then get to perform again on week 2 and then be voted off. I mean we really didn't get to see too much of their voices/stage performance during the auditions....

I can't stand Brenna (though I love her name) - did anyone else see her making :crazy2: faces at the other contestants while they sang? Hmm...

I'm so glad someone else noticed that. I didn't like her to begin with and that just made it worse.

I COMPLETELY agree with every review wvrevy gave :thumbsup2

The one note that I will add: I normally root for any of the NC natives...however...I just can't root for performers that don't have the talent. Kellie was OK last night. She really needs to pick it up if she's going to stick around. Heather was pitiful. I think she and Stevie should go home this week.

I hope that the guys can live up to the ladies performances.

I second that - any rumors yet on what the guys are signing tonight???

Can't remember half of them already... I was disappointed by Stevie who I thought would be different and able to sing well due to her opera training.

I loved Lisa Tucker! Performance, attire, confidence, talent--I thought she was fabulous. If I was her mother I would have been bawling with pride too!

I thought Paris was a little over the top--don't get me wrong, I enjoyed her performance more than the girls who were almost frozen like a deer in the headlights, but part of me was also thinking, "Take it back a notch! Too much!" At times I was so busy trying to keep up with her bouncing and getting dizzy from all her moving around that I wasn't listening to the singing.

And not a Brenna Gaither's fan. Honestly, I can't even remember her singing at this point, but it sure wasn't good enough to make me a fan--her attitude and posturing for attention really bothers me. Part of me wonders if she won't go this week even though she wasn't the worst singer. I'm not sure if she can find the fans to vote for her with her lack of likeability factor mixed with her mediocre singing.

Here you go: these are tidbits that I've picked up...who knows how true they are

Taylor singing Levon
David Radford - Crazy Little Thing Called Love
Bucky Covington sang "Simple Man," originally by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Sway will sing "On Bended Knee" by Boys 2 Men

I'll add to the list if I find anything.

She wasn't making faces - she was "posing". :crazy2:  :scared:

She might have been able to pull off that attitude if she could actually sing! But now she just comes off looking ridiculous. :headache:

Can you find spoilers for which girls are getting the boot?

I can think of a group of fans (and yes, we are fans) who voted for Brenna last night.

Damo, those are the songs I've seen listed for the guys also. I like how we know next to nothing for tonights show, unlike how we knew everything for last night's show.

Yup - highlight to view

These look like the bottom 5 in order of top to bottom:
Melissa McGhee,Stevie Scott, Becky O'Donohue, Brenna Gethers, Heather Cox

This from some preliminary voting totals I guess.

Here is a cool little bit of info. Someone recorded the number of times they got through and the number of times they got a busy signal for each contestant
Girls Busy Signals Votes
Kellie Pickler 37 42
Paris Bennett 20 39
Katharine McPhee 25 55
Lisa Tucker 17 44
Ayla Brown 10 43
Mandisa 10 43
Kinnik Sky 5 48
Melissa McGhee 4 62
Stevie Scott 4 62
Brenna Gethers 2 65
Becky O'Donohue 2 65
Heather Cox 0 67

After watching Idol for a few year and following it on the 'Net, I've learned to never trust "preliminary results"

Damo, where did you see those "results"?

They're not talking about them on either board (Survivor Sucks and VFTW) I read, so I'm curious where you found them.

I found them at TWoP. Sometimes that site is reliable and sometimes it isn't. I don't usually believe any of it until I see it for myself.

I posted the mens spoilers a few pages back and I got them off of TWOP as well.

The David Radford one was new as of this afternoon.

There is an Ace one out there as well, but its so inplausible, I almost don't want to post it!

(Supposedly Ace is rumored to be singing my Humps by the Black Eyed Peas). I dont beleive that rumor because although posted in TWOP, it wasn't in another source I use.

I've seen the same spoilers regarding vote totals. I know I couldn't get through on Mandisas line at about 1130 EST. It was easy to get through on Kathryns line though.
