American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I'm so happy for Taylor even though I'm a Chris & Kat fan. I think Taylor deserved to win after last night's performances.

I have to agree with most though...tonight's best moment was seeing CLAY!!!! I had to go back on the dvr and watch it over again just to see him. Tonight's show was well worth the 2 hours :) :)

This is what I do for a living and knowing that this is the last show of their biggest moneymaker, believe me, the segments will be smaller and there will be LOTS of Superbowl priced ads!

Man, I can only imagine what that log's total is tonight!! My largest total for a RADIO station was a million for one day! This one is probably that much a spot!

1.3 nationally.

Probably the only way he could ever perform in the Kodak theater. Do you think this means he is on the other side of his career now?

Not judging by 3 sold out shows in Philly last year.... 66,000 people in 3 nights.

Ditto! :thumbsup2

BTW - I think Kat sang beautifully tonight - probably the best she sang all season. All the finalists were great this year (with the exception of Kevin).

Congratulations Taylor!! :thumbsup2

My favorite part was when Clay came on...best part of the whole show.
All I could say was, "It's Clay! OMG...It's Clay...He looks amazing!" I loved the hair..great look for him.

Now...when Ace came on(I know, I know...sorry)....I couldn't breathe...I just could NOT breathe....

I can't stand Clay, and yet, I must agree! ( meaning the kind of music he sings. he does have great voice! )

Bucky sounded good too. I'm hoping so much that he'll release something because if he does, I'm all over it. :)

I love Bucky's voice. I hope he puts out a country/southern rock album. :thumbsup2

My favorite part was when Clay came out And suprised that wanta be Clay. It was so cute to see how excited he was. I'm not sure if I liked Clays hair or not. It will probabley grow on me. Congrats to Taylor! Kat did awsome too.

ohhh - I hated Clay's look before....I'm not sure what to think now...are the rumors true?
What rumors???

I kept rewinding the part where the 'winner' of the impersonator won and sang the song...it was the funniest thing all night.

BTW, Taylor, Ruben & Bo Bice all from B'ham!!!!!!!! Alabama is so proud!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DH is a financial guy and heard that a 30 second spot on tonight's show was $1.3 Million.

Is there a spot on the net I can watch tonights show....My satellite went out at the start and guess when it came back on....thats right during Taylors song as the credits starting rolling....you talk about mad....oh man I was steaming.....

I watched the show all season...but tonight, I had to give my night over to Lost (which seriously twisted my mind). So, I just finally watched the finale.

Now, Kat's been my favorite from the beginning, but I remember thinking at the start that I'd love to see a Kat/Taylor finale.

What I Hated About the Show
- Al Jarreau - Sorry, but I can't stand him. He always kinda freaked me out. He's like a cross between a clown, a mime, and a man whose voice I can't stand.
- Meatloaf - Can't stand him at all. Only saving grace was Kat (see "What I Liked About the Show" below)
- Live - Sorry, can't stand the song. Although I did think that Chris sounded better than the Live singer
- Toni Braxton - Was she even singing?
- Prince - Fast-forwarded.
- The Idol Awards - Fast-Forwarded.
- Taylor's usage of the "Soul Patrol" chant. It's tired, buddy. Drop it.

What I Liked About the Show
- Kat - Of course. Loved her singing "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" even if Meatloaf was frightening. Loved her singing "I've Had the Time of My Life." Loved her at the end - she seemed genuinely happy for Taylor (I'm certain she knew she had lost).
- The Burt Bacharach number - Went on a little long, but it was enjoyable.
- Taylor - Now, if I'm be honest, I thought his singing tonight was weak (except in the final number). BUT, I loved his riffs during the song when he thanked everyone. It was so genuine and heartfelt.

So, overall, a good season this time around. I'll be buying Kat and Taylor's cd, and, if they come out with them, perhaps Elliott's and Mandisa's.

Congrats to Taylor...but I've still got the McPheever.

Just finished watching the show. Congrats to Taylor. I agree with the other posters who said he had a weak night vocally. Kat sounded excellent tonight. I am very happy for Taylor. And I'm glad they both got cars!

I thought this was the best finale they've ever had. I really enjoyed it. However, the sucky "stars" they had performing with the idols were TERRIBLE! They just made the idols sound that much more outstanding. What was up with Mary J. hogging all the stage time? Elliott sounded SOOO much better and I wanted to hear more of him. Loved Chris singing with Live though, they sounded really good; I also enjoyed Paris and her idol guy. Toni Braxton, YIKES! She had to have been on something. Taylor did his best to hold the song together and I really admired him for that.

Oh, my, that guy singing with Clay--his expression when Clay came out was CLASSIC. I rewound my Tivo several times to watch it over again. I loved that. I love Clay!

Most of the idols sounded EXCELLENT, one of the exceptions would be Bucky. I really like him and I was really rooting for him to sing well, since there was no pressure from the competition anymore. Nope. I felt bad for the little fella--WAY out of his league. Lisa Tucker too. Not pleasant to listen to. Wow, Mandisa can really sing. I hope she gets some kind of contract. She really deserves it.

I'm saving this finale on my Tivo for a week or two so I can watch it over again. Most enjoyable. :thumbsup2

Kelly had a good sized solo in the group medly. She sang "What do you get when you fall in love?"

Well, some of us aren't sick of the Soul Patrol...and seeing as the Soul Patrol helped Taylor win his title, I highly doubt he'll be dropping it anytime soon. Nor should he. It's not nearly as annoying as the McPheever, McPhather, McPhans stuff that Katharine had going on.

I agree one of, if not THE best moment of the night was Clay. I thought his hair looked fine, and from a "buzz" point of view, well, everyone is talking about it and him. So, score one more for Aiken.

Go Taylor. You were my favorite Idol from the start, and my favorites NEVER win. So I feel personally vindicated.

I am Taylors biggest fan as shown in alot of my posts....but the Soul Patrol chanting did get a bit annoying....I also loved Kat and saw nothing wrong with her fans and Mcpheever....She certainly didnt chant it after every song but perhaps she should have....i wish them both the best but the best contestant won....I think Siomon is great but gets a little full of himself sometimes....I hope he is eating humble pie tonght with Taylors win....Of course that could have been his strategy....knowing people will vote for him if he doesnt like him....HMMMMMM....congrats to both and i will most likely buy both CDs as I enjoyed both of there songs....

I don't think he should drop the "Soul Patrol," but he should definitely tone it down. I mean, all it does is make me laugh, and, honestly, I think it makes him more of "a joke." Now, I don't think Taylor's a joke, but I think the Soul Patrol hand-pump is an annoying schtick.

And as for the McPheever being annoying...Kat never shouted "McPheever" every week. She only mentioned the "McPhans" or the "Kat Pack" (the latter of which is just plain stupid) when asked about them.

Now, I like Taylor because he's different and I like the songs that I downloaded by him. BUT, if he doesn't lose some of his schtick, I think he might lose some of his fans on the fringe.

I know you'll disagree, you being "surly" and all (;)), but it's just my opinion.

We liked the whole show, except the Idol Awards. Our thoughts..

Chris was just awesome. I think he is just a classy guy. I cried when he was voted off, watching his "journey" at the end. Come to think of it, I may have watching everyones. Hope he has a great career, which ever way he chooses to go with it.

At first we missed when Taylor introduced Toni Braxton, had to go back and hear him say it again. It seemed like her microphone was not working when they started singing.

Poor Elliott...once Mary J. started singing, it was as if he was not there. :guilty:

We were bummed out that they had certain performers singing certain songs. When the girls were singing, would have been so great to have Mandisa sing "Natural Woman" just thought she would have nailed it. We sure wish she would have been in the competition longer. She has such a beautiful smile and seems so genuine and just a great spirit.

Kevin..Kevin..Kevin...Im glad he was there because my 6 year old was happy.

Kat did sound super tonight and she looked beautiful and so relaxed.

One thing that we were confused about. Kevin and Melissa...they were there last night, on the CD yet don't get to go on tour. Felt bad for them.

I didn't mean anything bad about the deadbeat comment but what I meant to inply was he did not have a regular 9 to 5 job and play music on the side as a hobby. He has already cut two cd's and was waiting for his big break. Yes he was able to do this with the support of his family but he was also sleeping on family members couches because he couldn't aford a place of his own. I am very happy for Taylor he has made his big break and will do well and he will remember those that helped him along the way.

That sounds kind of hateful!
If he doesn't have a family to support it sounds more like he was following his dream 100%.
Granted, I don't know him but I am also from Alabama and know a few people who say they 'knew him when' (yeah, already)....

I don't get that picture from them at all. He was happy to live a VERY SIMPLE LIFE in order to do what he loves. I don't think that makes him a deadbeat.

I have to agree here... I think he worked in a guitar store prior to AI & did work the clubs on a regular basis... that's far from being a deadbeat :confused3 And he did own his own home, in fact he let a Katrina evacuee family live in the house since he had bought another home elsewhere.... That was really nice of him, he didn't have to do that...

But, back to the interview, in what way did he have a hard year besides when he got sick? He was quite sick for a time....?

Congrats to Taylor on the win! Wishing him nothing but the best in the future.

Katherine sounded great last night. I am sure she will do very well too!

It was great seeing a lot of the former finalists. Loved both the "boys" number and the "girls" number. Could have done without a few of the guest stars. The Idol awards were dopey but did set up the Clay song which was one of the highlights for me. The look on the wanna-be's face was priceless!

Thank you American Idol for a great season and thank you fellow DISers for a fun place to hang on Tuesday nights. Loved it!
