American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Now here's a question. Take yourself out of our happy American Idol land and how well do you think Taylor or Elliott will do in the "real world"? Neither of them have done anything truly contemporary yet. I think they both have very good voices, but where do they stand with Joe Schmo who has never seen an episode of Idol? I feel like they don't have a "niche" like past contestants - Carrie, Josh Gracin in country, Fantasia in R&B, Ruben in gospel, and Kelly was really the only one who fulfilled the actual goal of an American Idol - to transcend the title and have unstoppable success. I just worry that it's going to be hard to find a place for them in the current radio scene. Chris could go to alt rock, Kellie to country, and Kat can be molded into a mini-Kelly (because you KNOW they won't let her do her own thing!)... but where do Taylor and Elliott fit in??? Any thoughts??

My thoughts exactly. That's why I feel Kat has the only chance because she fits the mold. Once on the recording studio, they can make her a star.

I took that another way. I thought since the whole commercial had attention on her that she was the one going to get voted off. I am upset that Chris is off , but I loved Bo and was hoping for a rock albumn not the crap he is singing..still like him though. So hope Chris makes a great rock cd and shows he didn't have to win on Idol to be one. There can only be one winner but all the ones with talent have been making cds..so we'll see.

Well I like Chris. Not only can he sing, but he's hot too. I'm going to miss seeing him the next few weeks. That's what tivo is for though ha ha. Replay. I think he will be better off not under AI though. So, as much as I hate to see him go he's probably better off. I think Katherine is the most vocally trained, but she just lacks stage presence and performance. I do like her though. Taylor is just fun. I loved him doing In the Ghetto. I like Elliot, but I'm just not blown away by Elliot. I can't explain it. There's just something I don't care for about him. I think it will be Taylor in the end now that Chris is gone.

Wow, do all of you that are complaining about Taylor singing last night REALLY think that wasn't totally scripted? Do you really think it was just a coincidence that Ryan would stop by Rebecca Romain (sp?) who just happens to star in a huge Blockbuster movie coming out in the near future and she just out of the blue made a request to have Taylor sing the song that just about gave Simon a migraine on Tuesday? Please, Taylor was told to do that and had to do it whether he wanted to or not.

Chris had just as much time to sing his final song as any other booted contestant - or more so. Not many people were fans of Kellie although somewhere a huge fanbase kept her alive and she didn't get to sing AT ALL.

Nope, I'm sure it was scripted and I have no doubt that Taylor had no choice. I don't think anyone is blaming him.
I called out Ryan AND AI in general.
Notice I didn't speculate about why they did it. Just said I thought it was bad form. Still do.

At this stage in the game either give everyone a chance to get out there again, or stick with the format and have only the person who is going home sing.

I didn't remember Kellie not doing a final song when when she left.
I've always that that was a tough thing to ask them to do - but since that's the format... I'm not happy about that either.
Can I lodge a complaint after the fact.

I think those of you who are saying that AI is not about talent are a little self righteous to think that only singers YOU enjoy represent talent. I didn't enjoy Paris one little bit, but I can admit that she has talent. I get really annoyed with people who think that only their opinions count and that everyone else is wrong if they don't agree with them. There are three very talented performers still on this show and only time will tell who will truly succeed in the music business and who will not. I wish the best for them all.

Smartest thing anyone has said on this thread so far.

Its anyone's game to win at this point....these are not 3 schleps up there, but 3 very talented performers. We all have our favorites, but its ridiculous to say any of these 3 (and I'd go as far as to say the top 12) are lacking talent.

I didn't really watch the first season of AI with Kelly. How well did she perform each week? Was she so much better than Justin then? I think that Kelly is pretty damn good right now. Simon said that Carrie had no stage presence, but she won. Personally I don't think that Bo was that exciting of a performer.

I went to the AI concert last summer and I was amazed at how much better all of the top 10 performed. I even enjoyed Constantine, who I do not like. They were able to rehearse and perfect their songs. I can't imagine how difficutl it must be to get up there and sing like that. So Kat forgot the words, it happens! I look ather overall talent, and not her mistakes. I recall Carrie forgetting the words once last season, it happens.

You know, I thought the same thing while they were singing that part surrounding the judges table. I was trying to figure out if it was in referance to Kat or Paula.

As shocking as I think it is that Chris was voted out, I don't buy all the conspiracy theories or the theories that Chris didn’t want to win.

He was voted out because America likes warm and fuzzy, two words that would never describe Chris. And that is the bottom line, whether we want to face it or not. Its rare that you see an emotion cross his face. To be a magnetic person in this kind of arena, something's gotta show on the outside, and that just was not his thing.

Kelly was SO much better than Justin week after week. She was fantastic during every performance.

Another thing she had going for her was personality. She had tons of it. It also helps to have some "defining moment". Remember when she sat down in the judges chairs at her audition? She won right then.

Taylor is the same (why does it always go back to Taylor with me ... LOL). His personality really comes across on TV. Playing the harmonica during the final 24 episode was Taylor's moment and was genius on his part. It really set him apart from the others.

On Extra at 7:00 a major band will be offering Chris the lead singer position. They were building it up on Seacrest's radio show all day only to let us down and tell us to watch Extra. That annoys me, but hopefully it's a great offer that Chris will take!

I guess Ryan got a lot of angry calls about how he told Chris the news last night and when they asked Chris about it he said he thought it was harsh as well.

Ryan announced to Chris that Ryan received a phone call from a band with a household name that wants to offer Chris the lead singer position.
He said its a band Chris admires and that the band will be making Chris the offer today live on the show "Extra". Ryan said its on NBC at 7pm (must be California time, because I know Extra isnt on that time in Chicago)

Chris seemed to have no idea about who Rayn might be talking about. Ryan asked him if he would be interested in joining an established band or trying to go it on his own. Chris said he would have to think very carefully about whatever decision he made. And he asked his fans not to forget about him.

"Daughtry consistently has been the best musical act, week in and week out, since the competition began. In fact, after he covered Fuel’s “Hemorrhage” early in the competition, the band reportedly floated the idea of him taking over as their lead singer."

"Daughtry instead may have the opportunity to take over as the lead vocalist for Fuel, Creed, or any of the other one-syllable rock bands out there that are missing a singer, since he won’t be locked into the contract given to the “Idol” winner."

Me thinks you ladies should be ASHAMED of the way you're carrying on about another woman's HUSBAND!


Realistically, don't you think Chris' family life would be the most likely to suffer from his new-found fame? How would you feel if it was your husband up there being lusted after by all you love-crazed women...? How would you feel when he's on the road, and you're back at home running the household? just wonderin' outloud.....

Does anyone know if the winners from the past are doing concerts and putting out CD's? I was thinking of Ruben Studered and Fantasia. What are they up do? I do not hear much about either of them.

The last I heard was a book Fantasia ok'd to be sold under her name. Ruben was to perform in Las Vegas last year, but he cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. Whats up?
